Article in Sunday Times today. Afraid I don't have a share token. www.thetimes.co.uk/article/4f956268-1336-11ec-a8a6-db0b408d06d6?shareToken=e9d28aa2838a4d2fd0f5590b44444fe2

I know nothing about this couple but apparently they are both TV presenters. They have four children, the eldest two being young adults now. The three female children are all now identifying as other things and have changed their names. According to the comments, she has previously talked about her children having ADHD, being on the autistic spectrum, having various mental health issues - but none of that is mentioned in this article. Hmm.

This is a bit concerning. Carrie is speaking for the first time about the complexities of family life with children who question their gender before a conference this month called The Gender Agenda, at which she and her husband are appearing. At the event, organised by Oasis, the biggest schools academies trust, guidelines will be published for teachers on how to handle boys who want to be girls and vice versa.

I hope there's going to be a range of opinions.

Was just laughing at this with my mum over breakfast. What ridiculous people.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/09/2021 09:52

Thanks, Igneococcus! TheOccupier, I can't laugh about this. These children are very messed up and there's no guarantee they won't end up seeking medical treatment, which would have lifelong effects. I feel very sad for them.

I hope there's going to be a range of opinions.

The event is running “in cooperation with Mermaids and the Proud Trust”.

MonsignorMirth · 12/09/2021 09:57

boys who want to be girls

Wow, really? This is really transphobic - they don't want to be girls, they are girls, in their internal gender, and always have been.

So it should say something like "girls who want to be seen as girls".

HipTightOnions · 12/09/2021 09:57

“The interactive programme will be led by people who identify as trans and their allies”.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 12/09/2021 09:57

Yes it’s not funny at all because however her children identify, they’re biologically female and they can’t identify out of the things that brings good and bad.

I don’t see how it helps anyone to pretend there is this fairytale land where your biological sex doesn’t play a huge part in your life. It just does and identifying as a ‘non binary ace aromantic’ or whatever doesn’t change that

Sonarl · 12/09/2021 09:57

I know a family like this. Georgina is now George, first a lesbian, now a man, and everyone says how cool. No mention of the sexual abuse and assault that happened to her as a very young teen.

Grimbelina · 12/09/2021 09:58

Terrifying for those of us with children on the spectrum.

BlackeyedSusan · 12/09/2021 09:59

Hope it is not more sterilising autistic children.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 12/09/2021 09:59

Mermaids & the Proud Trust. So it’ll basically be one long propaganda session then

Why is it only with this issue that such fact free nonsense is allowed

Do they get creationists in to run sessions on evolution?

LizzieSiddal · 12/09/2021 10:00

I too wondered why their other problems/difficulties, which Carrie has openly spoken about, have not also been mentioned.

Personal opinion here but if my three daughters had all “changed” their identities so frequently, I wouldn’t know whether to laugh or cry, it’s utterly ridiculous imo.

HipTightOnions · 12/09/2021 10:00

I hope there's going to be a range of opinions.

“This topic raises many opinions and attitudes, but not everything should be discussed in an open forum. There will be a team of content moderators managing this event.”

Doesn’t sound like a range of opinions will be welcome.

MintMe · 12/09/2021 10:00

If that is an up to date picture, it matters not one jot how the two eldest children identify. They are very clearly female and will be judged/harassed/discriminated against because of that very clear biological fact.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 12/09/2021 10:01

Hahaha translates as “only the correct opinions will be allowed”

Imagine the beeeee kiiind sad faced emotional manipulation session this is going to be. I pity anyone having to go to this

ChequerBoard · 12/09/2021 10:01

Carrie & David Grant were vocal coaches (think they were on X factor or similar) and used to be presenters on CBBC when my DC were small. I've seen many articles over the years about their struggles with their children's additional needs including this one offering advice for parenting children with additional needs ruing lockdown. They have 3 daughters and 1 son in this article:

IvyTwines2 · 12/09/2021 10:07

Reading the comments underneath, one wonders why the children's 'special needs and mental health challenges' have been airbrushed out of this story. It feels like prejudice frankly, as does the whole way, discussed in the Shon Faye review thread this week, gender ideology has sought to remove and silence any discussion of mental health, calling it 'stigmatising'. It's like, 'they don't have special needs or mental health issues, they're just trans! Phew! Look at my super rainbow unicorn demi-girl, isn't that super!'

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/09/2021 10:07

Bugger!

I've met both Cary and David Grant and, whilst a bit 'luvvy' thought they were really nice, down to Earth people.

How hard must it be to have all of your kids want not or be what/ who they were born. But how the hell do you come to such total acceptance of the ideology?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/09/2021 10:10

Sorry Carrie.

I was struck by the general air of gentle amusement, bemusement.

horseymum · 12/09/2021 10:10

Just to confuse matters, Steve Chalke claims (or claimed?) to be a Christian but he does not speak for most of the Christians I know, who are against trying to rush into hormone treatment, name changing and surgery for confused children. In fact, this is an area where many Christians are of the same opinion as gender critical feminists.

OvaHere · 12/09/2021 10:16

Ridiculous headline. Nobody can change sex, they all remain female.

Agree that airbrushing special needs and their previous advocacy is poor journalism.

Have they given up on that advocacy now something more popular has come along?

LizzieSiddal · 12/09/2021 10:18

In that BBC bite size article she’s talking about being in lockdown, so must be at the most 18 months ago. So in that time 3 of her children have “transitioned”.
How the hell, in all seriousness, can she accept this as a fact and then feel qualified to be speaking about it at a conference?

Mermaids must be rubbing their hands in glee at her attaching herself and her family to them, whilst the vast majority of people will be thinking how bonkers they are!

Heatherington · 12/09/2021 10:19

IIRC, all or most of their children are adopted. These are kids with a lot of past trauma and other challenges, I believe.

JingleCatJingle · 12/09/2021 10:22

I think they need to get out more. This is crazy.
All that money and privilege and they focus on pronouns.

OldCrone · 12/09/2021 10:22

But how the hell do you come to such total acceptance of the ideology?

I imagine it's via some 'help' from the likes of Mermaids. They run residential weekends for families of trans identifying children where they can all meet up and convince each other (with help from Mermaids staff and volunteers) that their children are extra special trans children, not troubled children with additional needs.

There is a word beginning with 'c' which this also describes, which I can't mention here.
