Solidarity to Marion and all the witches out to support her.

Yeah how low can you get to lie about and use that poor girl’s rape and murder as a weapon against someone who disagrees with you

Mochudubh · 31/08/2021 18:01

I've never heard of the person who made the complaint as I don't watch soaps but does the Soap in question sound a bit like "Ever Shitty"?

WouldBeGood · 31/08/2021 18:02

It is how it works @CuriousaboutSamphire. Trust me.

The case can be continued without plea, as in this case, but mostly it would just be a not guilty plea and a date fixed for an intermediate diet and a trial. If the plea is guilty then it would just be tendered and then the accused sentenced.

WouldBeGood · 31/08/2021 18:04

I was a criminal lawyer @CuriousaboutSamphire in case you’re doubting 😊

JustcameoutGC · 31/08/2021 18:04

This all seems just so mental. I wonder did they expect her to accept a caution, or would that have even been offered.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/08/2021 18:06

Can someone explain what a "diet" is? Other than something I need to go on Grin

2bazookas · 31/08/2021 18:07

@RoyalCorgi

I'd like to know what the case against her actually entails. It seems so weird to me that she has only just discovered the nature of the charges and their content.

Yes. It's Kafkaesque. Did they read out her tweets in court? Why do we still not know what was in the supposedly offensive tweets?

This was not a trial.

It was just a preliminary court appearance to state the charges, and for the next steps to be agreed between the court and the lawyers.

WouldBeGood · 31/08/2021 18:12

A diet is just a word for a court hearing

donquixotedelamancha · 31/08/2021 18:13

Can someone explain what a "diet" is?

A meeting of a court, either of a nation (as in the diet of Worms) or of a law court.

suggestionsplease1 · 31/08/2021 18:15

@ArabellaScott

you realise a defendant is innocent until proven guilty, yes?

So you could quite as rationally ask why so many are happy to unthinkingly and unquestioningly condemn someone accused of a crime.

Yes, absolutely. I think it's inappropriate to do either really.

RoyalCorgi · 31/08/2021 18:18

It was just a preliminary court appearance to state the charges, and for the next steps to be agreed between the court and the lawyers.

I get that. I still thought it possible they might read out the tweets because, after all, how could Marion understand the charges if she doesn't know what tweets they're supposed to relate to?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/08/2021 18:18

Thanks @donquixotedelamancha and @WouldBeGood

MargaritaPie · 31/08/2021 18:32

A diet is also an opportunity for the defendant to state their plea.

beastlyslumber · 31/08/2021 18:32

Unreal. I suppose they thought they'd found a perfect victim and will be shocked that MM has galvanised half the women of Scotland in support. Most decent people do hate injustice, and this is so clearly unjust.

Fucking Scotland, though. It's so shit here.

This is the result of a climate where when somebody says "she's a witch" no-one is brave enough to be the person who says "no she's not".

These sort of social dynamics keep repeating in history. And they need to be stopped.

In this case, we'll see if the law is up to the job.

The gap between law and functional reality has to be forced out.

RedDogsBeg · 31/08/2021 18:50

@Antinerak

It's a real shame Britain doesn't have the death penalty :(
For what? and in relation to this case?
crosshatching · 31/08/2021 18:53

@Antinerak eh? It would be shameful if we did!

Jaysmith71 · 31/08/2021 18:54

Someone mention witches?

Could never happen today.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/08/2021 18:56

Advanced search shows that antinerak doesn't approve of FWR consensus on biological sex mattering. So it seems apparently they think Marion Millar should face capital punishment. A perfectly well adjusted and sane viewpoint, and par for the course from many people who share their views.

You aren't the only one. I read it online and was quite taken aback by that. How can you prepare for a case without knowing what you are charged with?

I thought you are told what you are charged with on arrest.

It sounds all a bit North Korean like. Makes you lose all faith in the UK justice system.

WouldBeGood · 31/08/2021 19:02

It’s not like that @AfternoonToffee, honest

WouldBeGood · 31/08/2021 19:03

@Antinerak wtaf? what a thing to say

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/08/2021 19:04

Crack on, antinerak, it's all sunlight.
