GC women thrown out of Edinburgh pub

Sorry if there's already a thread on this. I've been following it on twitter all day but didn't spot anything on Mumsnet.

The Edinburgh News has got a report about it.
www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/politics/inquiry-launched-into-row-over-transphobia-in-edinburgh-pub-3355594

The reporter quotes a lot of the TRA's tweets which they would probably love but I think the reporter's just given them enough rope to hang themselves.

I'm sure the average reader who hasn't followed the trans debate won't be impressed by someone who calls themselves an "AGP porn addict male" in their twitter bio.

@Dragonglass

I have no idea what happened in the pub, I wasn't there. But the tweets by the bar manager since are disgusting and very unprofessional. His tweets are what make me think that the women had done nothing wrong. It is him that has acted badly in all this and brought the pub and company into disrepute. If he had acted professionally, this would not have blown up the way it has.
I agree dragon
Itsinthetreesitscoming · 23/08/2021 13:18

I see that Lorna Slater has tweeted #istandwithmeb. See that thread about why more people don't vote Green... Because they will always be on the side of an AGP who calls women cunts, rather than women whose views are allowed in law

nauticant · 23/08/2021 13:18

I see the most disingenuous people in Scottish politics are either actively lying or are too deep in their fetishism of trans people to understand when a profile bio is using their own slurs as a joke

Anyone not being wilfully blind who scrolls down through the twitter account of the person involved will see that it is fetish-driven and porn-soaked. The person does seem to be more committed to their transition than many but the overall impression one gets is that they really need to steer themself away from women's single sex spaces, and from women in general.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/08/2021 13:30

Fiona Robertson definitely tweeted support. Has she deleted?

@BilindaB

''Perhaps. But if you have been asked to leave a pub because of a protected characteristic, such as, say, 'belief', then the service provider may find themselves in hot water.''

But not if they were disturbing other customers. The pub said they knew their beliefs and they served them for two hours, then things got heated, people had been putting provocative leaflets and stickers about that many other patrons would find offensive, one of them admits she shouted at the bar staff because she was being rude. You may feel someone is being rude, but shouting causes a disturbance that may well get you chucked out of a pub.

You're just making stuff up here. Rtft, and the tweets linked to.

Things turned nasty when Marion turned up. It was her who Meb recognised, and approached and asked to leave. Which Marion did. Then Meb tried to get the others to leave by lying and saying there was a time limit on their tables. I'd personally be annoyed by this,and may have argued back myself.

So they're a danger to women are they? Forgive me if they don't strike me as anyone I should be afraid of.
YetAnotherSpartacus · 23/08/2021 13:39

It was the gun poses that bothered me.

nauticant · 23/08/2021 13:40

I'm saying that their behaviour, just look at the "dick" and "bewbs" tweets on their twitter account, would make most women uncomfortable and if they had any decency they would realise that avoiding that rather than indulging in their porn-soaked antics would be the right thing to do.

beastlyslumber · 23/08/2021 13:53

@cariadlet

Trip Advisor has deleted all their recent reviews for the pub and has suspended publishing new reviews.

If anyone has visited Doctors and wants to post a genuine first-hand Google review, that's still ok. Smile

Trip Advisor WTF?

It blows my mind that this insane, woman-hating ideology is supported by virtually every company and organisation when the vast, vast majority of people know fine well that humans are male and female ONLY. Women are not allowed to speak anymore. We have lost so many of our freedoms in Scotland. It's so scary.

WouldBeGood · 23/08/2021 13:58

@Itsinthetreesitscoming that’s so inappropriate of Lorna Slater!

Looks like the Scottish Green Party are coming out in support of the 'cumbrained' 'porn addled' person who calls women 'c*' for their political opinions. Good to know this party is in government?

WouldBeGood · 23/08/2021 13:58

It’s really scary now

cariadlet · 23/08/2021 14:03

Support from Fiona Robertson here.

The people who work there could probably use some support - this kind of onslaught is overwhelming and threatening, and when it's attached to a physical place it becomes a scary place to be. I hope people show their support by going and making some good memories of their own

Indeed, Nicola Sturgeon has just invited these nutters into the government.

cariadlet · 23/08/2021 14:07

It was a bit irritating, I'd only just had the email thanking me for my review. 😊

But to be fair to them, I don't think that they're supporting trans rights or taking a position on the debate.

They do this whenever there's a sudden flurry of one star reviews for a place because it's pretty obvious that most of them are written by people who haven't actually visited the place concerned.

Green Party (Scotland) home of Eilidh Martin, Rainbow Greens (who has since been quietly replaced)

Strong content warning on following link: very unsavoury:

cariadlet · 23/08/2021 14:15

The quote seems to have disappeared from my last post. I was writing to @beastlyslumber about TripAdvisor's decision to remove reviews.

''the vast, vast majority of people know fine well that humans are male and female ONLY. Women are not allowed to speak anymore''

49% of women say transwomen are women. Only 29% of women disagree. 54% of young people (18-24) think so too. I'm one of the former, my two girls are in the latter category. Please don't presume to speak for all of us when you have a minority view.

Where are these stats from?

ArabellaScott · 23/08/2021 14:26

Poll from WingsOverScotland says no.

When it's confirmed that the transwomen in question have penises, like 95% or so according to GIRES' submission to the Trans Equality Inquiry in 2015, successive public polls have shown even though they say TWAW they aren't comfortable with sharing spaces with them.

So clearly that isn't quite true in those cases. People will say all kind of things to appear virtuous.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/08/2021 14:28

Bilinda, you're not telling the full story. That poll also specifically asked whether people thought pre op MTF trans people should use women's toilets, and whether it should be made easier to get a GRC and the majority of women, as well as men, said no.
