GC women thrown out of Edinburgh pub

Sorry if there's already a thread on this. I've been following it on twitter all day but didn't spot anything on Mumsnet.

The Edinburgh News has got a report about it.
www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/politics/inquiry-launched-into-row-over-transphobia-in-edinburgh-pub-3355594

The reporter quotes a lot of the TRA's tweets which they would probably love but I think the reporter's just given them enough rope to hang themselves.

I'm sure the average reader who hasn't followed the trans debate won't be impressed by someone who calls themselves an "AGP porn addict male" in their twitter bio.

I see that the definition of GC has now been changed to draw in people for another day of derailed arguing in order to draw attention away from the behaviour and the antics of the @mebisdead person.

Indeed.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 24/08/2021 10:41

So many misogynists out there laughing at the blatant disregard of violence against women. And to answer the question I once wrote an essay about 'Is the state male?' - the answer is HELL YES.

Ekofisk · 24/08/2021 11:00

Now she's been doxxed. Her account is locked down and the person who sent the tweet has deactivated their account. The police are apparently disinterested.

But meanwhile the police were involved and charges brought when Man at a Bus Stop felt so threatened by pictures of haberdashery that they had to move to a safe house?

It’s a funny old world. Except there’s nothing funny about it for women.

There never has been. Plus ça change.

Abhannmor · 24/08/2021 11:04

@titchy

For example, do I think someone should get a doctor's or similar medical expert's consent before being allowed to identify as the opposite sex? Yes, I think that would be appropriate.

Oh @BilindaB you utter transphobe. Why don't you post that on Twitter and see what happens.

I imagine she would be flamed. The surgeon Johanna Olson Kennedy would certainly disagree strongly. She thinks psychiatric assessment is a great inconvenience to her business model. After ' If I was putting someone on insulin , I wouldn't send him to therapy first.'

Wow do you know how transphobic you are with such a statement @BilindaB ???
You come here to lecture us and then end up being transphobic yourself. Unbelievable! What a hypocrite! 🙄

The entire purpose of the trans movement at the moment is to update the GRA legislation so that no medical diagnosis or expert consent is required to be able to identify as the opposite sex.

Proposals were put forward in UK parliament and it was pushed back only because of the efforts of women campaigning on this issue in spite of vitriol and threats. Proposals will be put forward in Scotland and at the moment it seems like it might be steamrolled through because SNP govt is making a deal with Scottish Greens to get a majority.

The utter brass neck of you to come here finger wagging and criticising women for campaigning against males being able to identify as the opposite sex without any medical or expert process!

@MellieBellie

I really feel for Marion Miller. As a result of this situation, she's had a woman calling her a 'middle class bitch' with too much time on her hands. This user also posted lies about her behaviour in another pub (tweet now deleted as Marion threatened legal action).

Now she's been doxxed. Her account is locked down and the person who sent the tweet has deactivated their account. The police are apparently disinterested. There's a thread about it here:

twitter.com/latsot/status/1430064135044313111?s=19

It doesn't matter where you stand on this issue, the harassment of Marion is disgusting and completely unacceptable. I can't imagine how upset and scared she must feel. She has vulnerable children. It's despicable and the police should be utterly condemned for their response.

So, someone has posted Marion's address online (where she lives with her vulnerable children), and even though there's obviously a harassment campaign against her led by vile, woman-hating, bullying and frankly dangerously deranged men, the police aren't bothered?

But they can spare 5 officers to go to a pub to kick out a group of women who aren't being violent or making threats?

What an utter fucking joke the police are. A laughing stock. Maybe she should have reported that the doxxer had a suffragette ribbon in his profile pic, she'd probably have a safe house by now Hmm Hmm

ArabellaScott · 24/08/2021 11:48

This is appalling.

The police are apparently disinterested.

Right. Are they, now? They'll turn up to throw women out of a pub, they'll arrest and take a woman to court for posting a Twitter of some ribbons. But anyone who doxxes her and shares her address, thereby endangering her and her family, that's just nothing the police would be involved with, is that right?

The double standards are so fucking glaringly obvious, at this point if you don't see the complicity and culpability of Police Scotland in this witchhunt, then I just don't know what to say to you.

Helleofabore · 24/08/2021 11:49

I think this is entirely appropriate here.

Please for the love of god, how can a table of middle age ladies make staff members fear for their safety?!! Confused

Ladies of a certain age = Literally Genghis Khan (so?).

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 24/08/2021 11:58

@littlbrowndog

Here
Quite brilliant.
tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 24/08/2021 12:10

Sorry Little was referring to that Trip Advisor screen shot you posted but for some reason it's not copied that Grin

@MargaritaPie

"I'm sure the average reader who hasn't followed the trans debate won't be impressed by someone who calls themselves an "AGP porn addict male" in their twitter bio."

She has since explained someone was calling her a "AGP porn addict male" repeatedly as a slur, so she put it in her bio as a joke. it seems the joke was missed by a lot of people.

Her Twitter bio now says she is "CEO of the Scotsman". (Which btw is also a joke.)

Mmmmm I saw it and just thought someone was being refreshingly honest for once. Didn't occur to me it was a joke, as for the 'cum-brained porn addict' - there are so many men on twitter who are proud of being this and outwardly kink orientated it never occurred to me that was a joke either. I'm not sure why it should have. shrugs

Have you ever heard that quote” Better to stay silent and be thought a fool, than speak and remove all doubt” ? Well that applies to writing as well and you have certainly removed all doubt

Yes.

I have to say if I ran a 'family friendly' establishment I wouldn't be too impressed with staff using the place as somewhere to enforce their personal beliefs (as evidenced by theier own tweets on the matter) or to have such an open NSFW twitter account. I would certainly not be on board with them calling customers "c*nts" - yes, yes they may do it in their heads or quietly to other staff but not on a public social media account where it ends up in national newspapers.

PankhurstConnection · 24/08/2021 12:26
@littlbrowndog I heard they dumped all the flowers out of the hanging baskets and replaced them with violets, while aggressively singing the Sufragette song from Mary Poppins. Anyone who tried to stop them had a 'literal violets!!!!!' sticker slapped on to them.
Sad to have missed this - especially the singing of the suffragette song from Mary Poppins.

WouldBeGood · 24/08/2021 12:34

I’m creeped by the bewbs

yourhairiswinterfire · 24/08/2021 12:40

Ok, to clarify, I am talking about 'active' GCs. Those who do campaign, protest, post their views on Twitter (often harassing individual trans people - hello Glinner) and other social media etc . These people are the ones who those are a threat to Trans people, inflame transphobia and threaten trans people rights and safety.

Those that hold views that are GC, or coincide with some GC views (ie transwomen in sport) but not others, and don't actively campaign or contribute to GC crowdfunders or whatever, I'm not including in the 2-3000 number, nor do I worry much about them as they are not doing anything actively harmful.

Being outraged that convicted rapists are being housed with women in prison, and actually trying to do something about it like crowdfunding, raising awareness(or ''harassment'', as you call it) etc ❌ Naughty wimmin.

Being outraged that convicted rapists are being housed with women in prison, and doing a little disapproving tut (as long as no one hears you) ✅ There's a good girl!

Riiight.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 24/08/2021 12:53

I’m creeped by the bewbs

Maybe I have lived a sheltered life but none of the women I have known have ever gone on about their 'bewbs' to that extent.

nauticant · 24/08/2021 12:56

I always associate the word with either adolescent boys or older males exhibiting fetish-like behaviours. By the account of the pub worker, they are nearly 40.

WouldBeGood · 24/08/2021 12:58

I mean, I like mine, and they’re a great distraction from my belly, but no, I don’t get off on them.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/08/2021 13:33

Yes, I'm not sure many people realise this. This isn't some goofy kid.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 24/08/2021 13:45

@BilindaB

"People think of transwomen as people who “have a sex change”.

They don’t know that all you have to do now is say you’re a man/woman and that’s it."

Maybe a lot of older people. Younger types like my kids and their contemporaries know better - and they're the ones most supportive of trans people, think they should use the toilets of their their choice, and what we all agree on about changing rooms - cubicles! We'd want them if there were no trans people, sod strangers having a gawp, and we don't want to see them either thanks.

Thankfully laws are (currently) upheld to keep segregated spaces for women and girls due to safety reasons and not for feelz.

Whether we like it or not sex is immutable and a TW remains the sex they were born. They are of the sex which had a high rate of offences against women and girls. We have no way of knowing which biological males may hurt us hence segregated spaces. Whilst TW are not by default predators they are of the sex most likely to be.

That may offend some more trendy than myself but safeguarding isn't supposed to be cool so I'm good with that.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 24/08/2021 14:10

When openly GC women (not men) are hounded on Twitter with rape and death threats, sacked for holding a perfectly legal belief and have the local pc knock on their door in the night to chat about their belief in sex and people really surprised we often keep our head down?

MargaritaPie · 24/08/2021 14:29

"Now she's been doxxed. Her account is locked down"

Has she? I happened to see her account before she locked it and she was talking about wanting to set her legal team on someone for "libelling" her on Twitter. I didn't see anything about a doxxing/personal info being leaked.

Update on media re the pub in Edinburgh the article from The Scotsman has vanished: www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/politics/inquiry-launched-into-row-over-transphobia-in-edinburgh-pub-3355594

The article from Yahoo isn't misgendering the bar manager:
uk.news.yahoo.com/pub-manager-targeted-sick-trolls-151746568.html

Doctors received a lot of fake negative reviews on tripadvisor, which had to be deleted and their page on tripadvisor has had to be locked for now.

With the fake reviews excluded, Doctors has a score on TripAdvisor of 4.5 out of 5 from 752 reviews. It's #72 of 1,771 listed restaurants in Edinburgh.
