GC women thrown out of Edinburgh pub

Sorry if there's already a thread on this. I've been following it on twitter all day but didn't spot anything on Mumsnet.

The Edinburgh News has got a report about it.

The reporter quotes a lot of the TRA's tweets which they would probably love but I think the reporter's just given them enough rope to hang themselves.

I'm sure the average reader who hasn't followed the trans debate won't be impressed by someone who calls themselves an "AGP porn addict male" in their twitter bio.

I'm interested in which Fringe show they went to.

Sounds like the sort of thing I'd enjoy.

For many they're going to have to find someone to blame. They were led astray in some way. For some of those somehow it'll be the fault of those women who were being so noisy and intolerant. The women might have had a point for some of it but they drowned it out in their shrieking.

Not really. FairPlay for women is an account that relays news and information. I don’t believe they position themselves as being ‘twitter influencers’. I think people placing so much importance on ‘likes’ misjudge the importance of the group and the work they do. There site is very well read and that is their remit. Twitter is used to push out notifications and that is where their focus lies.

But sure, use their lack of influencer style action to discredit their activity.

There’s also the issue that if you are GC on Twitter you tend to get harassed and abused by some people

if they genuinely have 4k twitter followers, those numbers are absurd.

Yup.

Again you are trying to compare these figures with accounts who spend their time interacting with their followers to get traction, either to build their sphere of ‘influence’ or to build awareness of their brand for sales.

Again, some accounts merely use twitter to push out awareness of actions or new articles.

It shows a lack of knowledge about the different ways social media works to suggest there is something ‘wrong’ with the account. It does smack on attempting to discredit the organisation.

A quick look shows many tweets in the high hundreds, and some with 1-2k likes. Find me a fairplaytowomen tweet with a similar number.

The recent GC glasgow event attracted about 100 people. I am saying that the number of GCs in the UK is no more than a couple of thousand people. Which is relevant whenever one of them tries to speak for all women.

Bilinda - I know about a dozen gender critical people in real life. Most of us are quite scared about the repercussions of being openly gc on their jobs. None are on twitter.

I know 2 TRAs. Both are very vocal on twitter.

I would imagine I am very typical in this.
