Wow.... So refreshing to read such straightforward, sensible points. She's a brave woman for sticking her head above the parapet.

Thanks for that info @Oldbadger1 have emailed Lisa.

I hope she gets enough support to stick to her guns.

That is a brave and stunning lady.

OhHolyJesus · 25/08/2021 07:53

I see Lisa has shared the new article with Simon Callow criticising Stonewall in the Times.

Posie P sends her thanks to Lisa too.

Rubbish non statement from Surrey police…. “Trans rights are human rights”…. Completely misses the point

Surrey Police Commissioner: Stonewall pushes dangerous trans ideology
Tanith · 28/08/2021 15:14

Pride In Surrey have had another go at that statement:

www.prideinsurrey.org/response-to-the-published-public-view-of-the-surrey-police-crime-commission

They say the original was misunderstood:
Our initial post had a line confirming that we'd challenge the views of Lisa Townsend with force. We've since amended this statement as it has been misconstrued.

I'm not quite sure how you can misconstrue the phrase "challenge with force" tbh... what exactly did they mean?!

RedDogsBeg · 28/08/2021 15:33

That statement isn't that much better.

NoNoThankYou · 28/08/2021 19:11

"On reflection maybe the words "challenge the views vehemently" should have been used, however, we caught the eyes of the right people, now have a meeting in the diary with Surrey OPCC"

That "however" sounds very much like, "our plausibly deniable threatening comment got us what we wanted, so whatever."

Maybe I've become excessively cynical...

NoNoThankYou · 28/08/2021 19:17

I also really object to the disingenuous absurdity of their suggestion that they think the "movement" part of the definition of "force" refers to a political group rather than physical motion.

Is Pride like Stonewall now, nothing to do with same sex attraction and everything to do with the rights of TWs to obliterate the female sex? I wish someone would ask them straight "What rights do TWs want that they don't already have?" The reply of "Access all areas female" would surely make the citizens of Hastings sit up and take notice.......

A statement from Surrey Police PCC

Statement by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey

The Police and Crime Commissioner Lisa Townsend says she felt compelled to speak out on behalf of the women in Surrey who have contacted her after an interview was published this week reflecting her views on gender and the Stonewall organisation.
The Commissioner said that concerns about gender self-identification had been first raised with her during her successful election campaign and continues to be raised now.
Her perspective on the issues and her fears over the direction that the Stonewall organisation is taking were first published on the Mail Online over the weekend.
She said that whilst those views were personal and something she feels passionately about, she also felt she had a duty to raise them publicly on behalf of those women who had expressed their concerns.
The Commissioner said she wanted to clarify that despite what has been reported, she hasn’t, and would not, demand that Surrey Police stop working with Stonewall although she has made her views clear to the Chief Constable.
She has also wanted to express her support for the broad range of work that Surrey Police carry out to ensure they remain an inclusive organisation.
The Commissioner said: “I firmly believe in the importance of the law in protecting everybody, regardless of sex, gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation or any other characteristic. Each of us has the right to voice our concerns when we believe a particular policy has the potential for harm.

“I do not believe, however, that the law is clear enough in this area and is too open to interpretation which is leading to confusion and inconsistencies in approach.
“Because of this, I have severe concerns with the stance taken by Stonewall. I want to be clear that I am not opposed to the hard-won rights of the trans community. The issue I have is that I don’t believe Stonewall recognise there is a conflict between women’s rights and trans rights.
“I don’t believe we should be shutting down that debate and should be asking instead how we can resolve it.
“That is why I wanted to air these views on the public stage and speak up for those people who have contacted me. As Police and Crime Commissioner, I have a duty to reflect the concerns of the communities I serve, and if I can’t raise these, who can?”
“I don’t believe we need Stonewall in order to ensure we are inclusive, and other forces and public bodies have clearly also come to this conclusion.
“This is a complex and very emotive topic. I know my views will not be shared by everyone but I believe we only ever make progress by asking challenging questions, and having difficult conversations.”

www.surrey-pcc.gov.uk/statement-by-the-office-of-the-police-and-crime-commissioner-for-surrey/

If there is now a meeting and everyone wants to have an open conversation then this is progress. #NoDebate is definitely over, that we know. I'd like Surrey Police, not Lisa Townsend but the Surrey Police Force itself, to make it clear whether they think that "trans rights" includes the 'right' to single sex spaces provided for the opposite sex?

It would also be interesting to know whether gender critical views, that are considered worthy of respect in a democratic society, are in direct conflict with "trans rights", according to Surrey Police.

Sorry, wrong thread...

The question of what rights do Trans people not have is never answered and they would never admit that it is, as you say, access all areas female.

“ "On reflection maybe the words "challenge the views vehemently" should have been used, however, we caught the eyes of the right people, now have a meeting in the diary with Surrey OPCC"”

Oh, they’ll have done that all right! I wonder if the meeting is under caution? Smile

NiceGerbil · 29/08/2021 02:51

Hate crime cars???

I googled.

Patrol cars with rainbow colours on. To encourage people to report hate on social media?

Outside on a car?

I don't get this at all. What about all the other groups that get shit?

How is it going to look when rainbow branded car is there while the police do racist shit and someone is recording?

I just don't get this at all. Our police are appalling. Met. Cruising around in rainbow cars while in pursuit? I mean.

I'm totally baffled. This is just weird.

SpindleWhorl · 29/08/2021 14:05

My exMiL has form for leaning into Police cars that are 'branded' or 'sloganned' in some way and saying in her best Joyce Grenfell voice, 'Aren't you terribly embarrassed to be driving that?' leaving police officers open-mouthed or gibbering about 'initiatives' while she huffs off.

God love her.

yourhairiswinterfire · 29/08/2021 14:14

Someone on Twitter called them 'Pander cars' which did make me Grin

TheFnozwhowasmirage · 29/08/2021 21:53

I'm glad to see the Leicestershire's PCC has backed her up. Cue hysterical comments about being 'rounded up and sent to camps' by MR activists.

NiceGerbil · 29/08/2021 21:55

I can't believe that cars stuff.

It's totally weird and inappropriate for any number of reasons.

Will the met be painting their cars with black power symbols any time soon? Or slogans against rape myths? That's a hard no obv.

allmywhat · 29/08/2021 22:01

Cue hysterical comments about being 'rounded up and sent to camps' by MR activists.

Wait, were they going into testerics about how they are going get rounded up and sent to camps because people disagree with them, or indulging in violent fantasises of getting GC women rounded up and sent to camps for the heinous crime of disagreement? I’ve seen both.

Kind of like how ACAB unless they’re arresting women for stickers, this movement’s attitude to “putting people in camps” is, uh, inconsistent.

Hi all, I just wanted to come in here and say a huge thank you for all the incredibly supportive messages (and cards!) from so many of you. It’s been a rough week, but I stand firmly by my view that as women we deserve our spaces and those for children, free from biological men. Your messages of support mean more than you can possibly know. Thank you, Lisa (Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner) x

Helleofabore · 30/08/2021 13:13

Flowers for you, Lisa

IheartJKR · 30/08/2021 13:23

So proud of you Lisa Star

Thank you 🙏

RedDogsBeg · 30/08/2021 13:50

Thank you for standing up and standing strong Lisa, I can well imagine how rough it has been for you.

Keep on keeping on, you are on the right side and the reaction from those against you shows that.

Know that you have a huge swathe of support and it is growing all the time.

EyesOpening · 30/08/2021 14:15

Thank YOU, Lisa! I’m embarrassed to say that I haven’t sent mine yet so you’ve got at least one more coming, now you’ve given me a nudge.
SpindleWhorl · 30/08/2021 14:34

Thank you, Lisa. I am very pleased to see the support you are receiving from other Police and Crime Commissioners.

I think the reaction of a few police officers in Surrey, and the use of the words 'with force' in the original statement, are very telling.

This is about safeguarding. Police officers who wilfully fail to understand their safeguarding responsibilities are surely in breach of their duty of care to the public and fellow officers.

Anyway, thank YOU, Lisa. Flowers
