Wow.... So refreshing to read such straightforward, sensible points. She's a brave woman for sticking her head above the parapet.

Best find my thank you card box, demand has been in short supply for these to be sent out recently. I think cards are good, as they are seen by members of staff as well as the recipient, and shows that it is important enough to spend time and money to write and send a card.

I’m also contacting my (conservative, female) PCC to see what her thoughts are.

MRB2 · 22/08/2021 10:50

Fabulous stuff, I will be sending tisalong to my PCC too. Until today, I had thought of them performing a pointless role too!

MRB2 · 22/08/2021 10:50

this along even

Jaysmith71 · 22/08/2021 10:55

PCCs were a Tory gimmick that went wrong. The idea was they would be elected 'Sheriffs' who would replace Chief Constables, but turned out to be illegal in English law and so they became deskbound bureaucrats often elected by less than 10% of local voters.

IsitM · 22/08/2021 11:28

I am emailing my PCC to ask him to publicly support Lisa. I pointed out that many women ‘lent’ him their vote because he did answer our emails and expressed support for women’s rights prior to the election.
I will also be tagging him on Twitter with a similar message. Lisa will be getting a fair amount of uncalled for abuse for speaking out, the least her fellow PCCs can do is publicly stand with her.

Selkiesarereal · 22/08/2021 11:37

Thanks for sharing, brilliant article!

DrElectrickery · 22/08/2021 11:48

I'm old friends with both my Conservative PCC and Deputy PCC, despite my not being a Conservative voter. I believe that we respect each others' opinions and judgement.

I've just sent them a private message to the effect that Lisa Townsend has the measure of this, and should be supported. And that I, and other residents I know, will back them if they do.

The fact that PCCs are elected means they care about what their residents think, not Scottish politicians and Crispin Blunt.

RedDogsBeg · 22/08/2021 11:53

Well done her.

I am sure she will now be deluged with ever so kind messages from the TRAs and their allies.

AlfonsoTheMango · 22/08/2021 12:31

Who would never, ever dream of calling her a terf or of being a transphobe. No sirree.

herewegogc · 22/08/2021 12:35

I estimate of the 175 comments on the article over 90% agree with her. Sunlight.

Melroses · 22/08/2021 12:45

Brilliant interview - so clear and well written too Smile

YouSetTheTone · 22/08/2021 12:55

Wonderful! She also stated this on a retweet- SO rare to see women only spaces being declared as appropriate and sensitive!
I’ve emailed her to thank her.

Hurrah!! And very few negative comments on Twitter so far..

DrElectrickery · 22/08/2021 13:59

Good to see Marc Jones, the PCC for Lincolnshire is supporting Lisa Townsend.

IsitM · 22/08/2021 14:25

Also being supported by Donna Jones, Hampshire PCC

GreyhoundG1rl · 22/08/2021 14:27

@TurquoiseBaubles

The interesting thing in that article is what she says about being contacted by so many people. She says that it's the biggest issue the public are asking her about.

So does that mean that everyone else - all other police commissioners, various elected people, local government officials and MPs - are ignoring the biggest issue the public are raising with them?

Yes, I would image so. It's a scandal of epic proportions.
GreyhoundG1rl · 22/08/2021 14:27

Imagine...

DrElectrickery · 22/08/2021 14:27

@IsitM

Also being supported by Donna Jones, Hampshire PCC
Excellent.
endofthelinefinally · 22/08/2021 14:35

There seems to be a problem with emails and letters to MPs being vetted and censored by interns.
Perhaps this doesn't happen (yet) in the offices of PCCs.

😳. Is that being addressed in any way, or is it tactically accepted? Disgraceful.
GreyhoundG1rl · 22/08/2021 14:40

I meant tacitly...

beigebrownblue · 22/08/2021 14:44

Well done for speaking out

yourhairiswinterfire · 22/08/2021 14:46

Brilliant, thank you for listening Lisa!

Sonarl · 22/08/2021 14:47

Wow! glad I voted for you Lisa.

endofthelinefinally · 22/08/2021 14:50

I have a relative who interned for an MP. I can't even begin. Unregulated and chaotic would be 2 words.
