Wow.... So refreshing to read such straightforward, sensible points. She's a brave woman for sticking her head above the parapet.

There are no rules for MPs and what staff they use for what. Some are brilliant. Others have paid their kids salaries from the public purse with no evidence of any work done.

You get what you vote for.

Questchun · 22/08/2021 14:55

Good that the MP for Guildford is supporting her.

How brave of her, I'm so grateful every time someone steps up like this

She has a lot of work to do!

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/08/22/police-pin-hopes-rainbow-cars-drive-hate-crime/

Police are replacing patrol cars with “hate crime cars” to encourage people to report incidents such as social media comments.

Deputy Chief Constable Julie Cooke said that the cars painted with the police insignia and rainbow designs are now “part of our vehicle fleet” and will be driven daily by officers on patrol.

However, critics have said that forces should instead focus on policing “real” issues such as knife crime and rape, with the latest figures showing poor prosecution rates.

Ms Cooke, the National Police Chiefs’ Council’s (NPCC) lead on LGBT issues, released a video on its Instagram account explaining why police have rainbow vehicles.

Describing them as “hate crime cars”, she said that forces are “always replacing vehicles” and they get the police insignia and “there will normally be then something added on that is to do with the rainbow side of things”.

A spokesman for the NPCC said that they did not have figures on how many had been painted as forces operate independently and it is up to individual forces how many cars they want to convert.

GreyhoundG1rl · 22/08/2021 16:25

Maybe the stupid bastards could start clearing the backlog of real actual crimes on their books before riding round is rainbow noddy cars trawling for non crime to justify their existence.
That has just made my blood pressure go through the bloody roof 😡

impossibletoday · 22/08/2021 16:27

Hoping someone can archive the full article

Itreallytiedtheroomtogether · 22/08/2021 17:22

This is fantastic! I have emailed my PCC and asked her to publicly support Lisa Townsend.

ExtremelyDisorganised · 22/08/2021 17:27

Pleased to see the Hampshire PCC supporting her as I noted that Hampshire Constabulary appeared in the top 10 of "most money spent with Stonewall in 2020" organisations published by The Times recently.

Surely this isn’t bloody serious??? I thought that the police were seriously underfunded and under resourced. Fucksake. My blood pressure is also through the roof.
TabbyStar · 22/08/2021 17:53

PCCs were a Tory gimmick that went wrong. The idea was they would be elected 'Sheriffs' who would replace Chief Constables, but turned out to be illegal in English law and so they became deskbound bureaucrats often elected by less than 10% of local voters.

But they are involved in the commissioning and grant funding of domestic and sexual violence services, so have the potential to also influence others.

doublemonkey · 22/08/2021 18:04

Fantastic-very simple and clear. Thank you LIsa! 💐

ArabellaScott · 22/08/2021 18:11

Wonderful to see others supporting her.

PandorasMailbox · 22/08/2021 19:30

It was good (and sadly rare) to see messages of support from male colleagues too.

Mallowmazing · 22/08/2021 20:15

Great news. I note that she has said she is fine with police recording gender identity, as long as they record sex too. Are some forces NOT recording sex? (!)

Many forces “record the sex of an offender based on self-identified gender” so if a man says he’s a woman the crime will be recorded as having been carried out by a woman. This is why we can no longer trust the data.

Exactly this many record self identified gender. See here - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/petitions_noticeboard/4299869-Please-sign-this-petition-to-have-crimes-by-men-recorded-as-mens-crimes?msgid=110165524

From Lisa's Twitter feed:

I don't post often, but I read a lot here. I saw the Daily Mail article on her statement and thought she was awesome.

Now I think she's better than awesome.

Sadly, a film called that is still likely to be better than Eat Pray Love.

Pride in Surrey has made a statement now about how they don’t support her because she is transphobic….

Sonarl · 24/08/2021 13:56

Well I live in Surrey and I voted for her and I support her - rather than the bunch of absolute donuts that I have interacted with here (burglaries, trying to report an RTA, neighbour harassment) - every single one has been beyond useless. As a taxpayer and resident of Surrey, I find the Surrey police forces, and their incessant carping on about non police matters and rainbows, beyond tedious. Sooner they get merged with Sussex, the better. The Met, on the other hand (live near border) have always been very professional.

OhHolyJesus · 24/08/2021 14:23

@C4tintherug

Pride in Surrey has made a statement now about how they don’t support her because she is transphobic….
Was it this one?

"At Pride in Surrey we recognise and value the long-standing support for the LGBTQ+ community shown by Surrey Police, and we continue to welcome that support from those on the operational “front line”. We know all too well that the views of the elected, political Commissioner do not represent those of the overwhelming majority of police officers or the public in Surrey.

Pride in Surrey has requested a meeting with the Police and Crime Commissioner to discuss the issues raised in the News and we will continue to seek to form a practical working relationship.

Our mission statement is to celebrate, educate and connect and the education element of our mission is important to us. Often people’s views are based on misinformation and it is part of our remit to assist people within all areas of society in gaining access to the facts.

We wish to work with the office of the PCC to educate on the issue of transphobia.

The views expressed by our Police and Crime Commissioner are unacceptable for someone in this position and we will continue to challenge her views with force.

Trans rights are human rights."

Sounds a lot like re-education to me.

Also Pride is political, Lisa's views expressed in the Daily Mail were more biological relevant than political. Are they saying that a police and crime commissioner can't be political, did they not know that she is a conservative and in an elected role?

I wonder if they have written to her directly or just posted this on Facebook...

RedDogsBeg · 24/08/2021 14:31

They are warming up the Gulag for her.

We know all too well that the views of the elected, political Commissioner do not represent those of the overwhelming majority of police officers or the public in Surrey.

No, you don't and I suspect you would be shocked to the core to find out what the real views of the public are.

Jaysmith71 · 24/08/2021 14:33

That sounds a lot like the Tory Lady's reaction to the 1945 General Election: "They've elected the Socialists? But The Country will never stand for it!"
