Wow.... So refreshing to read such straightforward, sensible points. She's a brave woman for sticking her head above the parapet.

Excellent. Brave woman. And so good to have a public acknowledgement that many people have been concerned enough to write and email. Sometimes it feels like we're shouting at the wind.

Iwishihadariver · 22/08/2021 09:16

Link sent to my PCC, thank you for the info

FemaleAndLearning · 22/08/2021 09:33

Fab! Also going to send the link to my recently elected police commissioner.

Blackandwhitehorse · 22/08/2021 09:38

This is brilliant. Interesting that she said it was the overwhelming issue people were contacting her about, I had always presumed a lot of people were unaware of the issues (based on everyone I know in real life) but perhaps there is more awareness than I thought

To be fair, that is the perspective being pushed by many allies and activists. There is a complete disconnect with reality. The majority simply don’t agree with them. No matter how much they want to believe it.

NotTerfNorCis · 22/08/2021 09:51

These so-called 'gender critical' beliefs are now protected in law but expressing them publicly risks harassment from extremist transgender activists.

Time to start prosecuting the extremists for hate crime.

Mrsjamin · 22/08/2021 09:52

I have just emailed my pcc. Can I urge everyone to do the same? Imagine if all pccs heard from people today, what difference we could all make?

AlfonsoTheMango · 22/08/2021 09:55

Hooray for common sense. I particularly liked her comment: "'Everybody has told me not to speak-out about this, that the debate is incendiary, but if women like me can't or don't speak up who will?'"

InspiralCoalescenceRingdown · 22/08/2021 09:58

Great to see another elected official speak up on this issue.

Tabasco007 · 22/08/2021 10:00

Great article, more sunlight.

ArabellaScott · 22/08/2021 10:04

Incredible. Absolutely amazing.

Writing a card.

So relieved and heartened to hear a woman standing up to defend women's rights and safety.

Thank you, Lisa.

TooWicked · 22/08/2021 10:06

Thank you Lisa Townsend and all the women who are emailing, letter writing and campaigning for us. Flowers

Brilliant

ArabellaScott · 22/08/2021 10:08

We don't seem to have PCCs in Scotland, is there an equivalent, does anyone know?

LazyViper · 22/08/2021 10:09

So refreshing. Wish Scottish police were so prepared to defend women’s safety and rights.

ArabellaScott · 22/08/2021 10:12

Yes, Viper. Am wanting to get in touch with someone in Police Scotland to raise this, but their website doesn't really seem to suggest there is any kind of equivalent post.

Itsinthetreesitscoming · 22/08/2021 10:16

This is so heartening - and wonderful to hear that writing letters and emails can make an impact.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/08/2021 10:18

Angela Richardson MP tweeted this:

Well done @LisaTownsend for speaking up in your role as #Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner for the rights of women and girls. #Guildford #Cranleigh and our villages.

WouldBeGood · 22/08/2021 10:27

Oh, that’s brilliant. I almost cried reading it. Actual sense.

Questchun · 22/08/2021 10:34

She's on Facebook.

Questchun · 22/08/2021 10:34

For appreciation, I mean.

WouldBeGood · 22/08/2021 10:37

Just followed her on Twitter

OhHolyJesus · 22/08/2021 10:38

What a woman, I agree with PP, it shouldn't be brave to say this but it is. I'll send her a message of support, I'm sure there will be complaints.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 22/08/2021 10:45

Fantastic! Lisa Townsend Flowers thank you for listening to what women are saying.

Also despairing that Police Scotland are the polar opposite.
