Didn't know that.
Could another factor be, if found guilty of both offences, it is common in the US to be sentenced to serve the two or more terms (one for each offence) consecutively, whereas in Britain it is more likely that the judge would direct that the terms be served concurrently?

I'm not especially keen on reading the full details of the case to find out

I'm with you, Fridge. I'm glad this person is in court and I'm very, very glad I'm not on jury duty for the hearing.

My hope is that his mother's dementia is at a stage where she had no awareness of what was going on and has no recollection. That is the only kindness available to that poor woman.

IvyTwines2 · 05/08/2021 14:48

@NiceGerbil

Just realised

It never happens was always explained when it did happen, usually, by saying they weren't really trans.

The fact that it's changed to yes they are a woman TWAW even with something as horrific as this shows that confidence has increased. Things have shifted.

That's not good.

They're 'on a roll' because the new Biden administration seems to be waving things through for them? The mainstream, broadsheet articles supporting exposing kids to 'kink' and naked males in a spa with naked women and girls (Washington Post and LA Times) felt like a shift too. I'm British but I've always previously been delighted when the Democrats get power in the USA, both for their sake and because British youngsters now take so many cultural cues from the USA. I don't like what the Biden regime is doing so far though, at home with women's rights and in foreign policy, which will, again, most severely impact women. But I digress...

The Glinner Update take on this:

grahamlinehan.substack.com/p/the-chris-chan-story-shows-the-moral?r=hul36&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email&utm_source=copy

I see Twitter is still protecting the likes of Chan by banning a user for calling Chan him

RuinedLeon sums it up when it comes to "respecting" the pronouns

His language is salty but he gets the point across - he is well worth watching on YouTube as he has his head screwed on and as he is only 21 is a good reminder that not all young people drink the koolaid

Yet if you were to discuss mental health issues in relation to this subject matter you'd probably get a social media ban (male blue tick comic book writers speculating about the mental health of TV sitcom writers to their millions of followers is fine, though).

transdimensional · 05/08/2021 15:51

Fridgepants, do you mean (a) that Chris Chan should not be considered genuinely trans - in which case would you agree there is no harm in people using the "he" pronoun, and no harm in articles noting that Chan is male, or (b) that Chan is trans but is a bad example because of the history of trolling that you describe, and if (b) then shouldn't this publicised so that people know that automatically affirming/encouraging a trans identity might not always be right - that the person might only be transitioning as a result of social pressures from trolls rather than their inner identity?

To say that this person "is not in any sense a TRA" is an invocation of Inigo Montoya.

transdimensional · 05/08/2021 16:18

If Chan is not genuinely trans then this would seem to imply (1) that we can't assume that someone is trans just because they claim to be, i.e. people aren't always who they say they are, and pure self-ID can't be relied upon, and (2) that we shouldn't necessarily blindly use their ostensible preferred pronouns - if Chan is not genuinely trans then all the less reason to associate the crime with women by writing "she" etc in the news reports. They could easily write "he" without needing to describe the full history of the individual.

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 16:20

I've never heard of this person before.

I find the argument that they were unable to understand consent, were acting from a position of diminished responsibility etc because of MH and were driven to transition by trolls (?) really unpleasant tbh.

I assume you don't know this person and you sound like you're putting together s defence case.

They didn't understand consent?!

This online trolling made them forget that you shouldn't rape your mother? Your elderly mother who has dementia?!

Why are you so keen to defend them when I'm guessing you don't have loads of extra info about it all?

'Yes, gender has an impact when it comes to this crime, the proceedings, what will happen with prison. No doubt. But before this came to light, it was clear that CWC was very unwell and was being groomed by trolls into doing more and more crazy things for the amusement of the internet.'

Their gender is woman. What impact does being a woman have on this type of crime?

A quick nod to the fact that this will be recorded as a crime s woman did, and that this sex offender will be remanded with women/ in prison with women (if found guilty) is hardly trivial.

If as you assert they don't understand something as basic as don't rape your mother, then imprisoning them with women is a risk to a large number of women.

Do they share cells in USA generally?

They are raped their mother repeatedly because they were goaded into it by strangers. And they don't understand sexual consent. Or that you don't rape your elderly mother.

Sure.

almost a macguffin ??? What does this mean?

And you seem to be creating a scenario where Chris is not trans but still requires pronouns respecting and Chris is so gullible and obviously not well so raping his mother was a forseeable event?
I'm not sure actually what your point is. But anyway, if Chris needs pronouns of she/her then Chris is trans and none of this not the right type or no true trans shite.
And if chris really is so gullible and unwell and has no capacity then why the fuck is Chris allowed to live freely? Chris probably should be in a kind of assisted living facility, where help is around.

'This isn't a 'trans crime' per se'

No... It's a female crime. A woman did it. That's what all the reports and police booking etc say

If prison then presumably with the women.

THAT is the problem.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 05/08/2021 16:57

So, this person has been manipulated into raping his mother by online trolls?

That's the world we live in now?
