I, too, dumped the Guardian and now subscribe to the Times, Telegraph and Spectator online.
My ultra left wing 18 year old self would be appalled at this, but needs must!

Just a reminder that TRAs are cancelling their Guardian subs (imaginary Guardian subs??) because it's transphobic too...

Oh dear. Notice they are not demanding LOJ resign from his job. Or threatening him with rape/baseball bats, etc

SpringCrocus · 19/07/2021 20:33

Funny that 🤔🙄😂

standupsitdownturnaround · 19/07/2021 20:33

@PandorasMailbox

I know several people who've binned their Guardian subs to join the Times.
I'm one of those people. Can't stand the Guardian anymore because it reads like a school paper. A couple of exceptions (Marina Hyde eg).

The Times seems more objective and thoughtful.

LizzieSiddal · 19/07/2021 20:43

Brillant. Can they do the Guardian next week?Grin

doorornottodoor · 19/07/2021 20:48

Love The Times. Have subscribed on the back of Janice Turner’s excellent writing.

MondayYogurt · 19/07/2021 20:54

@PandorasMailbox Search "guardian transphobic" for a chortle.

PandorasMailbox · 19/07/2021 21:02

The Guardian's practically their own personal comic, er I mean newspaper, but that's still not enough for the trans mob.

Someone really needs to write a sitcom about this......

I also binned the Guardian for the Times. They have some great investigative journalism. I take great pleasure in the Guardian's moaning pop up page - "You've read 80 articles this year..."
Yes I have idiots - and I used to pay for them until you forgot the basic principles of a free press and started silencing women and manipulating news for your own staff's agendas.

Sophoclesthefox · 19/07/2021 21:10

I was just watching “This Time With Alan Partridge”, and they take a hefty swipe at the Guardian for being entirely staffed with hypocrites and posh men with three letter names like Dan, Ben, Tom or Tim pretending to be ordinary because they’ve got teenaged sons and a messy hallway 🤣

PandorasMailbox · 19/07/2021 21:21

Private Eye loves to take a swipe or two at the Graun.

Love Private Eye

groundcontroltomontydon · 19/07/2021 22:29

The Graun's fall makes me very sad but (for the most part) these days it is to real journalism what homeopathy is to real medicine: an alternative

Tabasco007 · 19/07/2021 22:39

@WhatyoutalkingaboutWillis

How many of you have subscribed to The Times recently? I have and I know my daughter has.
Yup, read the guardian all my life, but finally made the change....
AlfonsoTheMango · 20/07/2021 07:29

Good! I love the Eye.

And it's only fair, seeing as how The Graun takes a swipe at The Daily Mail at every opportunity.

But, really, I wouldn't worry about The Graun long-term. Their focus is on the US - I guess the strategy is to challenge The New York Times as the premier broadsheet.

Pinchoftums · 20/07/2021 07:35

Don't get too excited about The Times, they still are pretty shite about other issues. My uncle works as a journalist and some of the angles he is told to write is pretty shit. This was a paid advert not their editorial choice.

AlfonsoTheMango · 20/07/2021 09:59

They have Janice Turner on their staff and publish more GC articles than any other newspaper except The Daily Mail. For that alone I support them.

Private Eye cheerfully mocks all the papers (and all politicians), it's just that the Graun provide so much free material.
SirSamuelVimes · 20/07/2021 10:29

It's an ad, but it's an ad the Guardian (and maybe others?) would refuse to run.

I also have a Times sub, having never paid for a newspaper subscription in my life until this year.

The idea of The Grauniad running such an ad makes me laugh. There would be vapours and mass walkouts and tears and demands for an apology and goodness knows what.
TooWicked · 20/07/2021 15:17

I unsubscribed from The Times about 18 months ago but have been tempted more and more over the last few months to resubscribe.
