She has quit as leader if the Green Party over trans issues. But I can't work out if she is TWAW or "they" are

Read the comments section- she is not supporting natal women. Wonder if there's change afoot in the Green Party?

GrrrlPwr · 14/07/2021 18:24

Sorry my article is from the Times. But it was similarly vague. But the comments usually have interesting intel

Orf1abc · 14/07/2021 18:25

she is not supporting natal women

It's possible to support both natal women and transwomen.

Whatabouttery · 14/07/2021 18:25

Pretty clear she is fervently TWAW

Manderleyagain · 14/07/2021 18:28

The guardian have covered it too. It was obvious from that article that she thinks self id etc is the most pressing social issue, but she was getting push back from other members of the 'front bench team' who are elected positions. It sounded like she didn't think she could persue the gender policies she wanted within the party structure. There is obviously dissent among those with power in the party.

Davros · 14/07/2021 18:29

Not in the Green Party so it seems

She’s completely TWAW and was chums with Challoner

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/07/2021 18:38

It's possible to support both natal women and transwomen.

I suppose so, with limitations on one side or the other or both. Sian doesn't support women though.

GettingUntrapped · 14/07/2021 18:42

I hope this gets the EXPOSURE it deserves.
Terrifying!

PumpkinSpiceWoman · 14/07/2021 18:44

That's just so dishonest.
AlfonsoTheMango · 14/07/2021 18:46

Berry is a TWAW person.

Manderleyagain · 14/07/2021 18:48

There's more detail here too.
inews.co.uk/news/politics/sian-berry-quits-as-green-party-co-leader-over-inconsistencies-around-trans-issues-1103236

From this article its more that because shahrar Ali (and maybe others?) was elected as a spokesperson she thinks this gives mixed messages about their intentions re trans rights so she's stepped down. Quite how she thinks it'll play out i don't know.

heathspeedwell · 14/07/2021 18:49

You would think that her experiences with the Challenor family might have made her take a step back and consider why she thinks male-born people can represent the rights of women.

Both Aimee and Aimee's former stepbrother (now stepsister) appear to have inherited David Challenor's interest in clothing styles. Both also appear to have inherited an interest in identifying as furry and identifying as incontinent, nappy-wearing toddlers.

I find it surprising that this hasn't made Sian wonder if she was right to invite David Challenor on Green party picnics, particularly as he was active in the Green party for over a year after being charged with the rape and torture of a 10 year old girl.

Note to Mods: Although I'm aware David Challenor identified as female when he raped that 10 year old girl, and made her refer to him by a female name, I am using male pronouns for him as I believe he is currently identifying as male.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/07/2021 18:49

It really isn't. Sian whooped and cheered when women were denied a voice when it is clear that there is a significant minority of gender critical women in the Green Party, as seems clear from the reason she gives that she's flouncing. She's a shameless, attention seeking, pomo-addled careerist.

LizzieSiddal · 14/07/2021 18:49

She’s completely TWAW and was chums with Challoner

Oh dear. Well good job she’s gone then.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/07/2021 18:50

Yes, it is.

dyslek · 14/07/2021 18:50

A mate said to me; Are the Greens to bonkers for Sian? or is Sian too bonkers for them?

Angrycat2768 · 14/07/2021 18:53

Oh good. I may be able to vote for someone now.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/07/2021 18:54

Is it too soon to hope that this might be the beginning of the Greens beginning to campaign about environmental issues rather than campaigning for women to lose their single sex spaces?

donquixotedelamancha · 14/07/2021 18:57

Are the Greens to bonkers for Sian? or is Sian too bonkers for them?

The latter. She's spat her dummy because members didn't vote for the people she told them to.

LizzieSiddal · 14/07/2021 19:00

It seems to be Shahrar Ali she’s objecting to.

I can’t remember the details but I have a faint memory of him sticking up for actual women. Maybe we have a flicker of hope here?

dyslek · 14/07/2021 19:01

The Green Party made significant gains in the last local elections. Sian is a career politician who has spent her entire adult life climbing that greasy pole.So what gives? Careerists like Sian do not 'decide to spend more time with their families' without a very good reason for doing so, basically its not out of choice

My reading is Sian has cottoned on that she is not on the right side of history after all (there is just too much shit coming out all over the place now) but she is not ready to change tack (to many TRAs in the party) so she has got out while the going is still good, hoping when it blows up she will be well out of the blast zone.

Charmingly tho, before going (remember those TRAs still have a vote in the Greens) she has tried to smear GC candidates who would try to replace her.
What am absolute charmer.

We must never let her off the hook for what she has done.

AlfonsoTheMango · 14/07/2021 19:05

@Angrycat2768

Oh good. I may be able to vote for someone now.
Not so fast...

From the article in The Guardian:

"[T]he party had agreed at its last conference to back a motion that supports self-determination of gender and seeks to remove the heavily medicalised and traumatic process imposed by the Gender Recognition Act on those seeking to update their legally recognised gender.

“It is important to recognise that women’s rights and trans rights go hand in hand and the party conference continues to consider policy proposals on this issue,” the spokesperson said."

AlfonsoTheMango · 14/07/2021 19:05

Italics fail.

dyslek · 14/07/2021 19:08

The Green Party is totally captured and now is only interested in this issue. So the claim that Sian has steped down because the meanies are too powerful is bullshit, its a total lie.
She knows the tide is turning and is saving her reputation.
