"Nature is Queer"

It would help with the climate issue if we were able to photosynthesize. Shall we try that?

Whatabouttery · 04/07/2021 19:42

This one is my favourite so far:

Trees have sex by wanking into the wind. Which is what this sounds like.

Ha ha I just about spat my (organic, fairtrade) coffee over my keyboard after reading that! Grin

Extinction Rebellion are a scourge. I have an old uni friend who works in conservation and they do nothing but hamper her work by putting in endless FOI requests to deliberately chew up all her time because they don’t understand the fundamentals of what she is doing. They don’t see the big picture whatsoever. They are getting in the way of people doing excellent environmental work. They are virtue signalling attention seekers who neither understand nor seem to want genuine progression.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/07/2021 19:52

@NewlyGranny

Extinction will come fastest to those who don't understand human reproduction, I guess. Darwinian theory in action. 🤷🏼‍♀️
Or unwanted pregnancies. Whereby they will learn, to their astonishment, there's two distinct types of nonbinary queer person!Shock

Is there anyone, just one person on this thread who was surprised to see that XR have a rather tenuous grasp of science? Anyone?

LetsHaveCake · 04/07/2021 20:07

XR grind my gears. I remember when they were doing that big week of protests when they had bunked down in Oxford Circus etc. And they massively bigged up a protest they were going to do at Heathrow, made it sound they had big plans so the police then get tons of staff of staff on the ground and then it turns out that XR's protest group is like ten 13 yr olds who were like deer in headlights. Not Impressed.

Also, as mentioned above, by someone else - they decided to protest Canary Wharf by protesting public transport in a deprived area next door to Canary Wharf. Then decided to say they were like Rosa Parks. They are so in their own bubble that they have no idea how they appear to anyone who isn't a left-wing, middle-class, vegan type.

The Scottish Government gave them a people's assembly on climate change and they've refused to take part because the Scottish Government asked them to focus on things that the Scottish Government can do!

TheSlayer · 04/07/2021 20:41

I'm a left-wing, middle-class, vegan type.
Yet I can't stand extinction rebellion. They're as bad as the knobs that boycott sustainable palm oil when it's the most efficient product we can produce.
Or like the idiots that support Peta whose remit is staging sexist protests and putting down healthy animals.
The last ER video I saw were some teens arguing that it was fine to go.to.kfc for their megafarmed chickens with a well known, very mild mannered vegan called earthling ed.
They really exposed their own hypocrisy.

ArabellaScott · 04/07/2021 20:44

XR drive me up the wall. Fannying about and earnestly missing the point while other people actually get on with trying to do something about the issues. I could almost believe some of them are paid by the fossil fuel industry/lobby to discredit the environmental movement and make ecology look like silly and ineffectual virtue signalling.

Bryonyshcmyony · 04/07/2021 20:50

Some of the replies are hilarious

OhHolyJesus · 04/07/2021 20:53

I distinctly remember someone in a ER meeting suggesting that Mumsnet be rebranded to "parents-net" and asked if anyone has contacted HQ to make that suggestion.

I strongly encouraged them to do, just as a social experiment ...and the name dropping was because it was about a planned protest for mothers and their children, and how to do family-friendly protests.

I didn't return.

Fucking sniggering at this
That's one of the best tweets I've ever read
PurgatoryOfPotholes · 04/07/2021 21:45

I'm a left-wing middle-class working-class vegan type, and I can't stand XR either.

I don't believe the people of XR routinely use public transport. I am convinced they drive everywhere unless they have a photo-op planned. If they did (as I do), they would never have been willing to sabotage it.

dyslek · 04/07/2021 21:51

'This tweet is so incredibly dense it has actually warped the fabric of space and time.
It has opened a portal into the nightmare corpse-city of R'lyeh and called forth great Cthulhu and his hordes to enslave our world.
Frankly, it'll be a fucking relief!'

Grin Im nicking this one, its brilliant Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 04/07/2021 21:55

DD had an encounter with them when they were holding some sort of protest in her uni town. They were obstructing her and her fellow students from getting into their department for a lecture; not sure it was deliberate or they'd just chosen an inconsiderate location. What made it mildly amusing is that the lecture was on sustainable engineering. Slow handclap...

Keepemguessing · 04/07/2021 22:00

I swear this nonsense is what happens when children are never told 'no'.

littlbrowndog · 04/07/2021 22:04

Almost makes me want to get back on Twatter just to add to the comments. But the current set would be hard to beat. Here's a couple of nice ones...

That makes no more sense than "hippopotamuses can run underwater, therefore humans can be oviparous".

I’m transitioning into a Cypress Leylandii and have been subjected to an astonishing amount of hatred and dendrophobia.

dyslek · 04/07/2021 22:19

Oooh 'bronouns'

Im keeping that.

dyslek · 04/07/2021 22:21

I liked the Oliver Burkman one; 'its not climate change, its queering the climate'.

Humans may not be trees, but whoever at XR perpetrated that tweet was a plank.
