Thank heavens for this.

Still a long way to go, but an elephant is eaten one bite at a time.

Well done, Maya - it would have been so easy to cave, apologise, grovel - and YOU DIDN'T!

WarOnWoman · 10/06/2021 11:47

Congratulations, Maya.

SapphosRock · 10/06/2021 11:49

What an inspiring women. Congratulations Maya.

Thelikelylass · 10/06/2021 11:49

Just forwarded the links to my secret underground alliance of bright and pissed off women - keep it up comrades!

TedImgoingmad · 10/06/2021 11:50

@MrsOvertonsWindow

That statement from Glinner is magnificent: Maya is one of a handful of unbelievably brave and principled people, almost all of them women, who have taken the burden of our human rights upon their shoulders and carried the fight to the media and through the courts. No one who hasn’t been through it can imagine the constant stress, the harassment, the lies and abuse these women face, not to mention the colossal weight of responsibility and the knowledge of what this means for free speech . Thank you Maya - and also thank you *@Glinner* - I know that you are one of the men who has also sacrificed a lot for this struggle.
Hear, hear. We owe them a massive debt. The bitter flip side of victory is that lives, jobs, health, relationships and reputations that were tarnished or even lost are not necessarily put back to where they should have been. We shouldn't forget to keep on supporting all the brave souls who put themselves on the line.
ThumbWitchesAbroad · 10/06/2021 11:50

Bloody brilliant news!

Apparently now they have to go back and re-try the first hearing, because the judge of that didn't behave appropriately - so will be VERY interesting to see what the outcome of that is, too!

In the meantime, HURRAH!!! Thank you Maya, for being so strong.

FightingtheFoo · 10/06/2021 11:50

Yay!!

OnlyBejoking · 10/06/2021 11:52

So happy I cried. It is so important that we aren't forced to express views we don't believe.

poppycat10 · 10/06/2021 11:52

Excellent news.

I don't know how many of you are aware that there was something similar going on at Abertay university. Although the university should have dismissed the complaints out of hand, they did reach the correct conclusion in the end (student investigated for saying that women have vaginas). I had a comment deleted from the Times website for saying that the university should not have investigated complaints that obviously didn't have merit.

With this case we are definitely getting somewhere. Poor woman having to go through this traumatic experience though.

Will employers and universities please wake up and stop all this nonsense now?

Woeismethischristmas · 10/06/2021 11:52

Amazing news; so happy for Maya.

Thank you to Maya. Thank you to JKR.

Thank you to all the fearless, formidable women who are pushing back.

Thank you also to Glinner.

Light will always conquer the darkness.

poppycat10 · 10/06/2021 11:55

@DancesWithTortoises

This should be allowed on the main boards but the moaning minnies will report and report until it's moved. Why do they hate women so much that they want to silence them?
Don't worry, I saw it in trending. If enough people keep commenting, it will stay there.
doublehalo · 10/06/2021 11:56

An incredibly important ruling for all of us.

Thank you Maya.

TedImgoingmad · 10/06/2021 11:58

There's a brilliant picture on Maya's Twitter of the fox bashing barrister outside court, wearing a foxy kimono, surrounded by Fox News microphones. How I would love to be a fly on the wall at the GLP, Mermaids HQ, Stonewall HQ, Pink News etc right now. They will be frothing and spinning this victory for free speech and the right for women to describe themselves and their own bodies and experiences as "trans erasure" or some such nonsense. We need to channel our inner Jo Cherrys whenever anyone does this. It is not about attacking transpeople, it is about the rights of women to hold the belief in their own existence as a biological sex.

LazyMareofEastown · 10/06/2021 11:59

Amazing news! Am really quite tearful.

Congratulations Maya and thank you so so SO much you utter fucking legend 🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟

heathspeedwell · 10/06/2021 11:59

Brilliant quote from Maya: "Being a woman is a material reality. It is not a costume or a feeling. Institutions that pretend sex doesn't matter become hostile places for women, in particular.
"After this judgment, employers and service-providers that ignore sex and silence women who object, need to consider whether they are acting unlawfully, and the substantial legal risks they face if they do not change their approach."

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 10/06/2021 12:00

SO it STILL isn't over for her?

Jesus wept - that poor woman. She has more courage than most of us could ever summon.

Thelnebriati · 10/06/2021 12:02

Thank you for having the courage to go this far, Maya 💐

I'm not among the Chosen allowed to red them - any chance of a quick summary of his golden words?
Bienchen · 10/06/2021 12:12
