So, what has suddenly happened for the tide to change?

So, I have spent a while reading through the twitter replies to Stonewall, Michael cashman and mermaids.

There is NO support for them. Really, none. All the @ s are damning - and along with recent events and all the organisations leaving Stonewall's diversity champion scheme, the tide really does seem to have suddenly turned. I am looking for the people supporting Stonewall et al but supportive tweets are few and, quite honestly, not very coherent.

It seems so different to just a few short months ago when no one would say anything.

What I don't understand is how come now? Stonewall have been doing this for a really long time, we have been pointing it out for years, not just months, so what has suddenly happened that decision makers have suddenly noticed and decided to do something?

I feel a bit wary. Also, angry that so many people have suffered, lost jobs and work, and there will probably be no recourse for them - no one will ever apologise to Glinner, will they? Will Daniel Radcliffe, Emily Watson and Rupert Grint and Eddie redmayne ever apologise to jkr?

Surely, if anyone with any sense at Stonewall wants a way out of this, the best thing to do would be to say, you know what? We were wrong. We got this wrong. So what can we do, how can we solve it, we are sorry and ready to listen?

@nauticant

Adrian Yalland (see the twitter thread linked by HPFA) is responsible for some extraordinary stories in the media:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2567688/Former-Tory-arrested-biting-Fathers4Justice-founder-tried-serve-legal-papers.html

IF YOU SCROLL DOWN THE DM ARTICLE YOU'LL SEE A PHOTO OF A PHYSICAL INJURY

Yup, I'm not sure Adrian Yalland is someone to link to too enthusiastically.

Yeah, you won guys. I've already had a letter from the government telling me to use only men's toilets and facilities from now on Sad, the GIC have said they can no longer provide me with my HRT but have said that they'll provide conversion therapy now and will therapy the trans away. We'll be removed if we try to go to any LGB (not T) event, even the majority of us who are LGB. Glinner will now be have his own national day and his wife and family will return.

JKR will obviously be given a Sainthood.

Ah well.

CardinalLolzy · 07/06/2021 20:06

Also, they ALL agreed that the cream goes on a scone before the jam.

We've still got a fight ahead of us, eh...

based on my own experiences I increasingly think the LGBTQ+ societies in schools are dangerous

When I hear a young female scientist in the media communicating about their subject I'm now in the habit of having a quick look at their twitter to see if they've talked about gender. Pronoun declarations in their bios are standard and the number coming out with TWAW, sex being a spectrum, GC is hate speech, agree with the ideology or be a bigot, is frankly alarming. I've done the same for young male scientists and although there are some adherents, they're often not playing the game.

Great tip, I’m going to start doing this too re scientists.

On the subject of school LGBTQ+ groups, remember that these are not supposed to be mixed age. This can be challenged if happening in your DC school or school you work at.

The one at our local school has a public Twitter account but nothing posted on it for many months.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 07/06/2021 20:11

my HRT

it's not HRT

SmokedDuck · 07/06/2021 22:10

Yes, lots of scientists can be bad on this which is disturbing. I suppose though I expect less from a school science club.

I am not in the UK so I don't know if the rules here are similar on LGBT clubs and ages. It's concerning though that the age range at big rural consolidated schools like the one in my area goes from about 12 to 18.

But more generally, while it really never occurred to me when I was younger, now watching what is going on, the topics they talk about in these meetings, and are supposedly being guided on by a teacher, are not ones where all the parents are going to be on the same page. And it's actually very similar for their classes that are meant to talk about things like healthy relationships. I'm not convinced that teaching degrees give any special ability to address these things with youth.

Many actual women have a terrible time trying to get their Hormone Replacement Therapy. You know, to replace the actual hormones their bodies were designed to produce and the lack of which makes their lives very difficult…

Do you want the words 'mother' 'woman' erased?

Do you want to ensure that another Keira Bell case never happens again?

Do you want to ensure that another Karen White case never happens again?

Do you want female rugby players, mma fighters, cyclists to be safe whilst playing their sports?

Do you have any sympathy whatever with lesbians who have reported that they have been called bigoted and transphobic for not wanting to date trans women?

If the answer to any of these questions is 'yes', then you are actually amongst friends.

Honestly, no one wants to stop your HRT.

I think this is a good indication of how the tide has turned:

www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/business/how-to-celebrate-pride-as-a-rapacious-british-company-20210607208905

There’s generally been no sector as woke as comedians in general and the manufactured humour business.

Frenchfancy · 08/06/2021 07:00

I think the tide turned because they went for Mothers. Women are fair game, especially lesbians, but mothers are sacred (and rightly so). It makes men realise the ridiculous nature of it all if they can't use the word mother.

Leafstamp · 08/06/2021 07:32

You’ve got a point there @Frenchfancy - I wish I’d saved a comment I saw on Twitter, something like ‘everyone knows you don’t go for mother’s...’ pointing out the dangers of approaching (m)any mother’s in the animal world. They are fierce!

  1. it's not about winning / loosing, it is simply adhering to the laws of the country.

  2. I don't believe you about the letter or anything else in your post.

Oh!

I think I need to do remedial homework, and I've been in this fight since the start, some 10 or more years ago. Imagine the minefield for anyone entering it now.

Or a peerage. I think a peerage would be good. Baroness Rowling of Hogwarts, or something.

“ the GIC have said they can no longer provide me with my HRT but have said that they'll provide conversion therapy now and will therapy the trans away”. For many young gay people (plus straight ‘ feminine’ boys/‘masculine’ girls and their traditional parents), it’s transitioning gender or sex that is the conversion therapy.

McDuffy · 08/06/2021 13:51

Small change, but a she/her email signature from someone I regularly correspond with is now just her name... wonder what triggered it!

Whatthechicken · 08/06/2021 18:41

I know the conversation has moved on, so I apologise, but as a general lurker I’m currently filling pockets full of sedition. I feel like I need to hide the remaining evidence under the floorboards or something in case the rozzers show up!

So, what has suddenly happened for the tide to change?
