Are you put off booking a holiday in Scotland by the Marion Miller case and the Scottish police carping about stickers?

I know that the chances of being harassed by the police on holiday are minimal but the whole atmosphere: law changes, the SNP attitude to women, the police tweeting about stickers etc - would you really want to holiday in such a pool of chilling effects? It is really changing how I feel about Scotland (in the sense of those currently running it - I'm not blaming the average Scot obviously) and I know if I went there it would be on my mind all the time. Chilling effects do not equal a holiday feeling is what I am saying I guess.

Oh and the person who called the police gloated and hooted on twitter about it.

Soberanne · 22/08/2021 09:29

I live in scotland and had heard nothing about Marion, i see Nothing of what you are stating here. Just normaL people going about their normal lives. Scaremongering i think. And we dont hate english people or anyone else. Scotland is as inclusive as anywhere so if you choose not to come on holiday thats ok plenty others will.

Cismyfatarse · 22/08/2021 09:30

@Soberanne I too live in Scotland. You may be correct in your small, snuggly corner but it is far from my experience.

Soberanne · 22/08/2021 09:31

I have the read the case regarding marion but cant see anywhere what she actually tweeted.

Soberanne · 22/08/2021 09:36

@Cismyfatarse well educate me then. I want to know. Genuinely. Because i dont see what the posters on here are seeing. In day to day life i just see people going about their business so why would people need to be scared to come on holiday here.

Soberanne · 22/08/2021 09:39

I agree if the Marion case is as its said on here Then that is shocking but i cant find anywhere that says exactly what she tweeted so therefor cant judge the decision thats been made.

Whichever way you cut it up a woman was thrown out of a bar for her legally protected beliefs.

Whether she wore a T shirt expressing them or not.

And, apparently, five police officers agreed. And the manager is boasting about it all over Twitter.

For her beliefs.

It's terrifying.

“I hope you understand how much normal people despise you” is a chilling remark for a bartender to tweet about a group of customers.

Seething hatred for women over the age of thirty is one of the central tenets of this new misogyny, and seems to be so relished by young TRAs.

The person's own Twitter bio calls themself an AGP porn addict male, apparently.

Not a lifestyle one would imagine is very sympathetic to women.

LazyViper · 22/08/2021 10:18

Good grief Datun. In a sane world, that bartender would be sacked for their social media conduct and attitude towards customers. Is it possible the owners of the bar are fine with it? Seems incredible.

littlbrowndog · 22/08/2021 10:20

5 police. Jeez I was waiting for over 5 hours last night for just one.

Took nearly 20 minutes each time to get through on 101

Not one turned up.

Seems police Scotland were busy last night

I live in a country where self-ID is law and you can be imprisoned for three years for misgendering.

I see nothing in day to day life that indicates anything has changed, but can see that for those who fall foul of these laws, either by finding a male in women’s spaces (including changing rooms, where shared spaces and nakedness is the norm as well as hospital wards and prisons) or by correctly sexing that person, there is a major problem. The situation also presents a significant change from the previous position, where that male person could have been removed and the law would have been on the woman’s side.

It won’t stop most people coming on holiday, and for most people, the change will go unnoticed until they are confronted with a man where men shouldn’t be, at which point they will discover they are wholly powerless to do anything, and worse, might find themselves in trouble with the law for trying.

This is, I believe, part of the reason these laws can be pushed through so quietly. On a day-to-day level, they won’t have a significant effect on the majority of women, and especially on women who have no need of single-sex spaces due to trauma or illness. But the potential is there. I wouldn’t blame anyone who choose not to come here because of those laws. Indeed I would applaud their principles.

littlbrowndog · 22/08/2021 10:41

The bar manager - they were cunts

Datun · 22/08/2021 10:44

I think he means they have cunts.

Lol.

JulesJules · 22/08/2021 10:47

This is horrifying. I'm interested to know what his employers view on this will be.

Soberanne · 22/08/2021 10:58

@AnyOldPrion thank you for your post. I totally understand that and agree that people should have safe places ie toilets and changing rooms, especially in schools, hospitals etc

But i don't think scaremongering and in some of the early posts suggesting that people may be arrested if they come to scotland are going to help in any way. Because the chances are about 0.. Scotland is by most a welcoming and safe country where the majority of people just live their lives. We are accepting and are trying to find ways to accommodate everyone. Its not an easy task.

As a society we need to work out ways that keeps everyone safe and gives everyone the dignity and respect they need. Thats not going to happen when theres such extreme scaremongering.

Do i agree that the Marion should have been arrested. If from what i have read then No. but we dont actually know what was in the tweets.

Soberanne · 22/08/2021 10:59

I thnk the bartender is completely out of order and should be sacked. What a despicable thing to call anyone

littlbrowndog · 22/08/2021 11:04

So in Edinburgh just call the police if you think a terf is in your bar. Will there be a sign up on the door of the bar

So is it just women (or cunts as this delightful charmer calls them) that believe in reality that this vile individual has a problem with, or would he be equally as ''brave'' if a group of men who believe in reality walked in? 🤔
