don't know how to verify that, but it would be hilarious if Nestle have too much pride in their reputation to be associated with the likes of Stonewall.

I imagine Stew himself will be quietly deleting his own recent lazy, poorly informed wokey blokey foray into this argument when the shit finally hits the fan, but this is a great clip.

ScreamingMeMe · 23/05/2021 13:42

Blimey indeed. That seems pretty significant. No wonder they are having a rather childish tantrum.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 23/05/2021 13:43
Now they've gone on the attack. We've done nothing wrong, everyone is out to get us! They don't seem to know how to do anything else...

twitter.com/stonewalluk/status/1396424940702818304?s=21
I've some sympathy with the tweeter who wrote:

A lot of LGBT people are very concerned that this is part of a wider movement to remove our rights.

I see the concern is grounded in Stonewall and other parties use of those tactics to remove women's rights. But the commenter has yet to realise that it is Stonewall who is looking to remove bodily autonomy and the right to assert personal sexual orientation from LGB as part of the portfolio of T being positioned as trumping the rights of everybody else.

Grellbunt · 23/05/2021 13:45

I think lots of people who have previously supported Stonewall don't understand what's been going on. So yes, this could well cause consternation...Hopefully it is made crystal clear.

Sophoclesthefox · 23/05/2021 13:46

@heathspeedwell

Just heard on Facebook that Nestle are dropping Stonewall too. I don't know how to verify that, but it would be hilarious if Nestle have too much pride in their reputation to be associated with the likes of Stonewall.
Oh for goodness sake, what am I supposed to do with that information, I’ve boycotted Nestle since 1989, I can’t approve of them now 🤣
ScreamingMeMe · 23/05/2021 13:47

It's horribly manipulative framing, and really irresponsible to tell LGBT people that this is an attack on all their rights.

heathspeedwell · 23/05/2021 13:52

That clip of Stew is superb! I hope he's brave enough to come out as GC soon.

pickingdaisies · 23/05/2021 13:53

Inclusion Without Exception has got an unwritten, but very clear "Or Else" about it. I mean, I can practically see it, right there!
(It's also reminding me of some other totalitarian slogan that I can't quite put my finger on)

Grellbunt · 23/05/2021 13:54

This consternation is of course a direct result of the forced teaming of LGB and T though.

Doubt it.
LizzieSiddal · 23/05/2021 14:07

I too heard about this just now in R4 news. Dh and I did a high five- maybe after the week the BBC have had they’ve realised they need to start reporting proper news about Stonewall instead of all the arse licking they usually do!

And their tweets today show they are not mature or professional enough to be going into any education establishment or indeed “advising” any business. Their nasty bullying true colours are shining through today!

noraclavicle · 23/05/2021 14:19

We have a couple of radios on on Sundays tuned to different BBC stations - it made Radio 3 (and pretty comprehensively), but nothing on Radio 6.

Unlikely - the last thing I saw on stage before lockdown was his new show in which he said people who object to mixed sex toilets do so because they (we) are uneducated and thick.
FannyCann · 23/05/2021 14:43

FannyCann
Whaaat?? Her case has been pushed forward a year? I missed that! WTF. 
On the positive side though, it was to find a big enough time slot. They've allocated 20 days (4 weeks) of court time.

Thanks NecessaryScene1

That's a substantial amount of court time. The outcome is clearly going to be very influential.
Hope Allison's crowdfunder has plenty in the kitty!

Ugh! "u ok hun?" A line straight from the Tumblr feeds of teenagers.

"U ok hun?" doesn't make me think of teenage tumblr feeds (probably because I have never seen one). But does make me think of MLM cults. "become a seller of my dodgy products and you too can have a fantasy lifestyle and give up work"

FannyCann · 23/05/2021 14:49

Also, I have no idea of the accuracy of the assertion obv, but a comment below the DM article states that 25% of employees in the U.K. work for an organisation that is a stonewall diversity champion. Seems a believable figure considering how many organisations are signed up to the scheme. I hadn't thought about it in terms of that sort of statistic previously, it's pretty shocking the extent of their influence.

vesuvia · 23/05/2021 14:49

Quotation from Baroness Falkner (Chair of the EHRC): "to suggest that this impacts on our impartiality is wholly inaccurate and unfounded. The programme is for employers and our membership always related exclusively to our internal affairs, it had no influence on any external work."

I think Baroness Falkner may be confused about the difference between intended impact and actual impact on their external work.

I await the findings of any possible public inquiry into the relationship between Stonewall and other organisations (including EHRC) for a more definitive assessment of EHRC's impartiality (or lack thereof).

NHS E alone employs 1.5million people:

www.nuffieldtrust.org.uk/resource/the-nhs-workforce-in-numbers#

Add in the other largescale employers who are signed up as Stonewall Diversity Champions and it's feasible that 25% of employees are covered by virtue of Stonewall's partnership with large employers.

It's always easier to throw money at a glamorous problem that will gain you awards and credit you with desirable points than to embrace dealing with the needs of those of your workforce who have unglamorous and boring disabilties etc. that will take a reworking of your workflow, systems and genuine culture change to influence.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 23/05/2021 15:06

@IvyTwines2

'TIE'? An unfortunate acronym for a group focussed on children, but there you go.
That is interesting that Stonewall mentioned them. Rather randomly yesterday they posted a pile of tweeted that they said were threatening and abusive. This was a bit out of the blue, so I'm now cynically wondering if there has been some coordination with Stonewall.
FannyCann · 23/05/2021 15:13

Shocking isn't it EmbarrassingAdmissions ? The extent of their influence and the income stream associated.

Slight derail but I'm amusing myself scrolling through the #dontsubmittostonewall FOIs and have just noticed one from Alastair Moody. Quite possibly a genuine name but I do hope it is a sneaky pseudonymous bit of JKR fandom! WinkGrin

This is Stonewall's own claim according to the Sex Matters press release linked in the OP.

Stonewall claims that the scheme covers 25% of the UK’s workforce. It aims to “transform institutions” by “empowering them as advocates and agents of change in wider society”. Its members include around 250 Government departments and public bodies.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 23/05/2021 15:24

I see the Equality Network has come out in support of Stonewall too:

twitter.com/LGBTIScotland/status/1396443091817713668?s=19

If Stonewall falls a lot of these other orgs will begin to crumble too.

Do you remember the days in diplomacy when the USSR and China used to send each other telegrams of congratulation on their communism and glorious futures? It feels a little desperate and like that.

No, I don't believe he will come out as GC. But I think he will quietly pretend he never said anything. Sneering at women along with many others is one thing, but looking increasingly absurd in your anti-reality beliefs is another.

maybe after the week the BBC have had they’ve realised they need to start reporting proper news about Stonewall instead of all the arse licking they usually do!

I was thinking that, listening to all the conversations around the Diana/Bashir scandal on Friday. The BBC covered up for Saville and now have this new stain on their reputation for integrity - they really do need to be careful about the narratives they perpetuate and the ideologies they promote.
