Article in daily fail (sorry)

4 year old female twin says she is a boy (like her twin brother) and expresses interest in firefighters & police officers & doesn't like pigtails.

So the parents are transitioning their 4 year old and saying they have grown up conversations about gender with them.

Sigh.

Christ that was a depressing read. The whole argument was basically this child wanted to be just like their twin brother. To wear the same clothes, play with the same toys and to have their hair the same as their sibling.

If this child's parents had allowed them to do that as so many parents of girls have done for generations instead of forcing them into dresses, playing with 'girls' toys or having their hair in pigtails then I'd bet my entire life fortune on the fact this child would be a comfortable happy Tom boy who didn't feel the need to swap to being a boy so they could do those things without their parents judgement.

I might order this, sounds interesting: www.waterstones.com/book/fire-woman/josephine-reynolds/9781782436997

The Daily Wail are many things, but not stupid. They knew this story would get this kind of response. All sunlight on madness.

BrilliantBetty · 05/05/2021 12:18

Child abuse at the hands of parents and any professional taking this preference literally.

justawoman · 05/05/2021 12:19

Sounds like a really bright little girl: she’s noticed her twin brother gets a much better deal already, by the age of four, and she wants in on that.

No comments. Must be turned off. I wonder why. Hmm

MsFogi · 05/05/2021 12:20

FFS on this logic my sister would have transitioned to being Superman in the early 80s and dd2 would have been living life as a cat for 10 years (although she probably would have started to detransition about 8 years ago).

Kit19 · 05/05/2021 12:21

This is all about the parents. They know full well what putting their child in the DM will do and they dont care

From Dr David Bell's interview in The Guardian
"Among these concerns were the fact that children attending GIDS often seemed to be rehearsed and sometimes did not share their parents’ sense of urgency"

SeaTurtles92 · 05/05/2021 12:22

Poor child.

I think the parents want this more than the child.

Sirzy · 05/05/2021 12:23

What a load of bullshit.

So much damage being done to that poor child, and probably her brother too, the only referal that needs to be done is to social services!

TheWeeDonkey · 05/05/2021 12:24

My son wanted to be a dinosaur when he was 4. I wanted to be the Incredible Hulk at that age. We're going backwards not forward.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 05/05/2021 12:25

This is absolutely terrifying, that poor poor child. Agree the only referral should be to social services.

I keep hoping that I'm going to wake up soon, and this mad dystopian world will have been a nightmare.

snowcobra · 05/05/2021 12:26

Unbelievably sexist and verging on child abuse. Poor girl

TheIblisHasspoken · 05/05/2021 12:30

This is crazy!!! My youngest is just about to turn four, born female!! But has been 'a boy' since she could speak and assert that she's a boy. So if it comes up, we say 'good boy' etc and that's it, not a big deal, I'm assuming she'll grow out of it or not, cross that bridge when we get to it ....surely a massive number of children go through this stage....
Are the parents just after attention? Why would you do this it's heartbreaking

powershowerforanhour · 05/05/2021 12:30

Looks like they gender stereotyped the bejasus out of both children from birth.

CaveMum · 05/05/2021 12:32

It’s one of two things for the parents - a desperation to have a “speshul” child or raging misogyny/homophobia.

With an added side of the need for very public validation.

Tal45 · 05/05/2021 12:33

Do they really think this would have happened if both twins had been girls? She wants to be just like her brother, that doesn't make her a boy, it just means that at age 4 she wants to be like her brother. At age 14 she's just as likely to want to be just like the most current female pop star.

Bakingdiva · 05/05/2021 12:33

Well I can beat that. My 20 month old son has a screaming tantrum if I won't let him wear my head bands, always wants to play with his sisters dolls and loves his PINK scuttlebug - clearly he's a girl.

Or in the real world he's just a little child experimenting and playing with everything he wants to, there are no 'boys toys and girls toys' just interesting things.

eurochick · 05/05/2021 12:35

When my child was 4 she maintained for many months that she was a cat. I did not make her eat on the floor and shit in a box. Ffs. The world has gone mad. She is FOUR!

Greenmarmalade · 05/05/2021 12:36

Interested in firefighters? What is this?! So incredibly sexist.

Who knew that all female firefighters were, in fact, men. Transmen.

PegPeople · 05/05/2021 12:36

Do they really think this would have happened if both twins had been girls? She wants to be just like her brother, that doesn't make her a boy, it just means that at age 4 she wants to be like her brother.

Of course it wouldn't have happened if they were both girls as its clear from the pictures and their comments that had they had 2 girls they wouldn't have ever brought them trucks, cars, fire fighter/police dress up clothing or any other 'boys' toy. They would have only been allowed to dress head to toe in pink and purple, play with dolls or wear princess dresses.

SirVixofVixHall · 05/05/2021 12:36

The idiocy of this.
How many children will be collateral damage in this movement ?
I know someone with a “non binary” ten year old. 🙄

Greenmarmalade · 05/05/2021 12:37

Strangely, sometimes the child says they are non-binary.

Is this father for real?

Fernlake · 05/05/2021 12:39

'I am so proud that he knows who he is and isn't constrained by societal norms and prejudices. We can all learn something from this small boy and I learn every day. Everyone is different.'

Dear God. A girl who doesn't like pigtails.

He added in the post: 'We all need accept that people are different and not try to force those around us to fit into a box that suits us.

He can't be this stupid.

poshme · 05/05/2021 12:40

@AssassinatedBeauty

What I can never fathom is the decision to publicise the child's life in this really intrusive way. I wouldn't dream of putting the life of my 4 year old child into the public eye in this way, I cannot see any explanation for why it's appropriate or helpful. It seems to be more about attention for the parents than for the wellbeing of the child.
Yes. I can't imagine doing this to my kids. Google-able forever.

I'm hoping you're right. There can't be many people this ridiculous. And they are highlighting it.
