Article in daily fail (sorry)

4 year old female twin says she is a boy (like her twin brother) and expresses interest in firefighters & police officers & doesn't like pigtails.

So the parents are transitioning their 4 year old and saying they have grown up conversations about gender with them.

Sigh.

We got a reply from Tavistock in Leeds to say he's registered with them, but they don't seem to do anything until they're 10, or they start puberty. Whichever comes first.

What did he want the Tavi to "do", exactly?

Erikrie · 05/05/2021 15:04

At least the tavi is more limited in what it can do now. Thanks to Keira Bell.

persistentwoman · 05/05/2021 15:04

A quick reminder of the reality of the negative long term impact of the untested medication being used on 'trans' children:
www.transgendertrend.com/puberty-blockers-effects-bone-density/

What's it called when someone reverses safeguarding and accuses the adults concerned at the failure to safeguard a child of being safeguarding risks themselves?

Oh yes, DARVO - Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender

H2OConnoisseur · 05/05/2021 15:04

I was a complete tomboy as a kid/teen and had many friends who were the same. If the situation then was as it is now, I'm pretty sure that I'd have been put on puberty blockers and eventually be convinced to transition. I'm currently in my late 20s, happy with myself, with ZERO desire to be male.

I believe this entire movement only seeks to reinforce gender stereotypes. It all feels extremely regressive to me tbh.

yourhairiswinterfire · 05/05/2021 15:05

If you were depriving your child of the recommended treatment for a recognised medical condition, you're damned right I would report you to social services.

I'd report the shit out of any medical professional who tried to tell me my 4 yo disliking pigtails and liking firetrucks and police officers was a 'medical condition'. If they can't understand that that is just 4 year olds being 4 year olds, then...Hmm

ShortSilence · 05/05/2021 15:10

Oh, wait till he has grown up. If he detrainsitions, you'll fall over yourselves to praise him, if he doesn't, and dares instead to do something outrageous like campaign for trans rights - that's when the hate comes out.

But as it happens we want to talk about this child now, rather than waiting, because the parents have very deliberately opened the conversation now. While the child is tiny.

But literally nobody here has or ever would express hate towards a 4 yo, so I guess your only recourse was to try and jump the conversation onto a different, hypothetical track Hmm

VickyEadieofThigh · 05/05/2021 15:12

@CaveMum

Vegan Cat Syndrome again.
OH YES.
TableFlowerss · 05/05/2021 15:12

@LadyBuffOfBuffdonia

*Bet they’re turned vegan recently too*

Can we have a little less vegan hate. I mean, apart from it having nothing to do with trans ideology, eating less meat and more veg has lots of benefits, there's logic to reducing your meat intake. There's no logic for increasing your interaction with harmful stereotypes.

Just for the record we vegans often sidestep the vegan cat scenario by keeping herbivores.

It’s not vegan hating, it’s illustrating that people follow tends to be seen as cool. The current on trend being ‘I’m a vegan’

Of course there are genuine vegans who have chosen that lifestyle regardless of its popularity. They are true vegans and I’ve got absolutely no issue at all. It’s a great way to live. These vegans aren’t jumping in band wagons and their motives are nothing to do with how they want society to see them.

That doesn’t mean however that all people who proclaim they are vegans, do it for the same reasons as genuine vegans. In other words they do it to follow the crowd and to be cool.

SingingSands · 05/05/2021 15:14

A lot of my childhood photos from age 4 show me in brown dungarees, with my favourite spider man figure and superman mug. My best friend was a boy called Gordon and we were inseparable. We climbed trees, dug holes for mud cakes, rode our bikes together, played in the woods behind our house and climbed on the diggers in the building site together.

We were just children, being children. And now it's so sad to see parents forcing children into boxes where they don't belong, putting words in their mouths that they don't understand and being so traditionally sexist.

MiriamMargo · 05/05/2021 15:15

The poor children for this sick society. This is worst thing I have heard to date!

HDDD · 05/05/2021 15:17

Dad to 4 year old "Can I post a story about you on LinkedIn"
"Course you can dad"
Of course this happened.

Soubriquet · 05/05/2021 15:18

Poor little girl

I bet there is preferential treatment with her brother which is why she wants to be a boy

YessicaHaircut · 05/05/2021 15:19

The caption on this photo from the article is just mad. “Living as a female toddler” indeed. SS should be seriously concerned about this family.

" was a complete tomboy as a kid/teen"

Me too. I was also a trans girl.

theThreeofWeevils · 05/05/2021 15:22

Can't abide the little feckers myself Grin
Doesn't mean I don't recognise child abuse when I see it.

yourhairiswinterfire · 05/05/2021 15:22

"But it's nothing to do with sexist stereotypes".

Hmm Kids are being put on a medical pathway that ends in infertility because they like the "wrong" toys or hairstyles, ffs.

mollythemeerkat · 05/05/2021 15:23

@ChelseaCat

What is wrong with people. Why can’t people accept that a girl may choose to like firefighters and hate pigtails?! Ffs.
Or grow up to BE a firefighter for that matter. Wasnt that one of the main points of bloody feminism. I despair.
Helleofabore · 05/05/2021 15:24

On the other hand, as people here are involved with campaigning for things like forcing trans kids to use toilets that match their birth certificates

People 'here' are involved in making sure in the need to protect all vulnerable people, that females are not put at safeguarding risk and are given the privacy and dignity they, too, need. People 'here' are vocal in supporting third spaces that do not 'force' trans kids to use toilets that match their birth certificates if they are provided.

Since you are accusing 'people here', what specifically are YOU personally doing about securing an equitable solution that allows the rights of BOTH females and trans people to be observed?

despite the fact that it puts them at higher risk of sexual assault,

Do you have current evidence that in schools transgirls are at higher risk of sexual assault than females are being assaulted by ANY male? I would like to see that evidence please.

Could you also then provide that transwomen and transgirls, in general, are at a higher risk of sexual assault than females are of being assaulted by males?

some would argue that yes, you do hate trans kids:

No. But then often it is said to be hateful when women campaign to maintain safeguarding standards and improve health care for children, particularly female children.

jeaux90 · 05/05/2021 15:25

I despair that this girl is growing up thinking that being a girl means she can't be a fire fighter or not have pigtails. So depressing.

Erikrie · 05/05/2021 15:25

Dad to 4 year old "Can I post a story about you on LinkedIn"

Yep, this.

ProudExclu · 05/05/2021 15:25

@Shizuku no one hates the child. Personally I wish a much better life away from the imbeciles currently raising her.

lifeturnsonadime · 05/05/2021 15:25

Sounds just like my 11 year old autistic daughter.

She doesn't like girls clothes, hair slides, make up, girly toys and culture.

Still a girl.

This is what happens when we insist children should fall into boxes and adhere to sexist stereotyping.

It's just cruel, as the mum to an autistic daughter it is so easy to see why autistic girls form a large amount of the demographic.

horrific.

bluebluezoo · 05/05/2021 15:28

Quote from the dad...

'I am so proud that he knows who he is and isn't constrained by societal norms and prejudices. We can all learn something from this small boy and I learn every day. Everyone is different.'

He added in the post: 'We all need accept that people are different and not try to force those around us to fit into a box that suits us.

'Accepting people for who they are is the only way to encourage innovation, embrace growth and harness the best in everyone. I have permission from my son to post this. He is proud of who he is.'

Isn’t that exactly what is happening. The kid doesn’t fit in the “girl box” so they are putting them in the “boy box”

If they were truly embracing the child for who they are and not being constrained by societal norms then they’d have a girl who likes trousers, short hair and fire trucks.

Shizuku · 05/05/2021 15:29

"Sounds just like my 11 year old autistic daughter. She doesn't like girls clothes, hair slides, make up, girly toys and culture. Still a girl."

Same, except I wasn't autistic.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 05/05/2021 15:30

The UK has had female police officers for over a hundred years (1916 I think?)
Last week there was the news about the first firefighter in a headscarf.

Neither thing is for boys.
