Lesbian Visibility Week

653 replies

ASugarr · 01/05/2021 07:39

As Lesbian Visibility Week comes to an end, I want to make a quick reminder that
ALL LESBIANS ARE VALID!

Cisgender and Transgender women can be lesbians. Transgender men who date women don't consider themselves lesbians. All Lesbians deserve visibility!

Additionally, many have stated that they don't wish to date transgender people. That's fine! Just because someone is in the same dating pool doesn't mean you MUST be attracted to them. Plus genital preference is also totally fine! But don't forget, trans women are women so please do not degrade them just because you personally don't wish to date them.

Plus, let's continue to educate one another on the important information. Like preventing STI's as a lesbian, domestic abuse in lesbian relationships and how to deal with that, safe and consentual sex between lesbians. This is what we need to be educating young lesbians and bisexual women on.

Have a fabulous long weekend all 🤍🌈

@Fromage

Hang on. If transwomen are female, are they cis?
Who knows? However it clearly shows that once you start redefining words it all ends up a bit nonsensical, hence the absolute knots the OP and others find themselves in. It isn't just the first word that needs to be redefined, it is every word that comes after.
Helleofabore · 01/05/2021 08:59

But it did rather seem that this 'legally female' assertion was part of your argument.

And remember that a male only has to want to be a woman and have pronouns is all that is needed apparently from last thread.

Not sure how in one post OP can talk about GRC processes and then in another state that nothing more is needed than the want to be a woman. It does tend to conflict with all we have been told in the past.

If it wasn't for your nasty and spiteful attempt to get Tinsel banned from Twitter, I would actually feel sorry for you ASugarr. You really have no idea how you cone across to the majority of people (and there is a LOT) reading your posts. One day, you will cringe yourself inside out about all this nonsense. Until then, keep up the good work of bringing sunlight to it.
Hear, hear!

@Fromage

I'm me own grandpa.
Oh god I watched a bizarre film the other day about a woman who had a baby, then a sex change, then became a time traveller, then fathered the baby. And then the baby grew up to be the woman.

My head is still hurting.

Helleofabore · 01/05/2021 09:01

@Fromage

TWAW. TWACW. TWAF.
Thank you Fromage. You have made loads of sense in stating the progression of mantras in such a short sentence.

Very succinct

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 01/05/2021 09:01

let’s turn this thread into a thread about how to support females who are same sex attracted

that would be amazing, I would really value any suggestions.

Prompted by this thread I have set up a monthly donation to LGBA (it is SUPER easy via their website), so thanks for making me get off my arse and do that.

How else can a straight woman support lesbians to exercise their sexuality free from harassment and discrimination?

AfternoonToffee · 01/05/2021 09:01

@HamsterV2

I learnt a new fact last night. Apparently lobsters' bladders are in their heads and they urinate as a form of communication. They literally have little pee nozzles under their eyes.
I play Manor Matters (app game where you have to find items in the picture) lobsters feature a lot, I will never look at that game the same way again.

yup. I rather suspect that the OP finds life more difficult than most. It's no reason to indulge her utter nonsense, but perhaps one not to engage.
NefBachMorf · 01/05/2021 09:04

Coming out of lurkdom to say "well said" Dial.

Yes, let's have this discussion.

NecessaryScene1 · 01/05/2021 09:06

You really have no idea how you cone across to the majority of people (and there is a LOT) reading your posts.

And I think OP underestimates how excatly many lurkers there are. The ratio of lurkers to posters in forums is huge. She thinks this is a fun private argument with the "bigots on FWR", but no, it's a public performance. We're in front of a big audience.

There will lurkers who have only recently heard about this stuff, and don't really believe how bad it is. (Feel free to say hi now, anyone!)

Trans activists have been repeatedly advised by Dentons and others to keep this stuff behind closed doors.

That was good strategic advice. You're not following it. It isn't going well for you.

You have to win hearts and minds - you cannot social change by fiat. (Well, okay, you can, for a while, but it's never pretty and it explodes in the end).

Yes I agree. Damn that female socialisation...I was thinking the other night that none of this could be doing OP much good, & worrying a bit about her.

Also this! How can straight & bi women support lesbians? I've donated to LGBA too.
sanluca · 01/05/2021 09:14

I see Asugarr is redefining the protected characteristics of sex and same sex attraction to be meaningless gibberish that might mean male or female and gay or straight or whatever anyone wants.

Funnily race, age and gender reassignment are left alone. Wonder why???

NecessaryScene1 · 01/05/2021 09:15

Another thought - it's interesting to note what the priorities are.

Given the strategic choice of just supporting "lesbian visibility" for a week, or even just keeping quiet, to avoid building up resistance to their movement, versus the choice of going in to FWR and being all "trans women can be lesbians!", the latter is chosen.

OP is clearly not prioritising helping trans people. OP enjoys pissing off women more than helping trans people. I'd say it's a basic "in-group vs out-group" fight. Kicking the out-group is more emotionally satisfying than supporting the in-group.

I'm reminded of this piece by Lachlan Stuart, who was involved in writing Labour's last manifesto. The manifesto was badly received by activists:

It dismayed the pop up people and LGBT Labour because it was the removal of the established legal rights of women that interested them.

Nowhere, ever, have I seen any recognition from any of them of the astonishingly bold, tangible and very expensive commitment that we gave to improve the lives of trans people by ensuring adequate and much improved access to health care services.

It’s not because they didn’t know.

It’s because that’s not what they’re interested in.

And I’m the transphobe?

OhHolyJesus · 01/05/2021 09:16

I was thinking the other night that none of this could be doing OP much good, & worrying a bit about her.

...and about the children she has access to.

Cailleach1 · 01/05/2021 09:20

You seem to contradict yourself OP. Someone state how males/men can't become female/women. You said that legally they can, so sort of a QED.

Then someone says that most of the males/men who identify as transgender don't have GRC's so are not even women according to your remark (which would use that legal device you mentioned above), you say that you personally don't depict humans as if they are legal enough. But you just did. By stating that someone is legally a woman by attaining that bit of paper, irrespective of whether they belong to that biological group or not.

That's usually due to how hard a GRC is to get. However if that's how you depict humans as if they are Legal enough then sure. I personally don't

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 01/05/2021 09:21

I would actually feel sorry for you ASugarr. You really have no idea how you cone across to the majority of people (and there is a LOT) reading your posts.

That’s the main reason I keep engaging. Sunlight.

ArabellaScott · 01/05/2021 09:22

Lesbian visibility week is about recognising and supporting women who love women, it's not a backdrop for theoretical posturing or a handy place for someone to make hamfisted ideological points.

Women are not your props, OP. We are not here to score points or to make you look cool in front of your Twitter friends.

Lesbians are able to speak for themselves (as are trans people, for that matter).

Your absolutely stunning arrogance, ignorance and rudeness is, as others have said above, probably something that should prompt compassion as much as anger.

Leafstamp · 01/05/2021 09:22

OP is clearly not prioritising helping trans people. OP enjoys pissing off women more than helping trans people.

Yup. Internalised misogyny. It needs some attention really. Not easy to hold a mirror up to yourself.

Justforphoto · 01/05/2021 09:22

If the GRC creates a legal "fiction" that they are women does that then mean it acknowledges that they are made up and not real? Would it come under the fantasy genre

Cailleach1 · 01/05/2021 09:23

I won't lead back to my boy cat. He doesn't have the biology or the bit of paper. But.. . dunno. If he/she fits the idea.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 01/05/2021 09:25

How can straight & bi women support lesbians? I've donated to LGBA too.

Thank you. It’s really tempting to say donate to our Patreons & buy us pizzas GrinGrinGrin but I feel supported just by women speaking up for sex over gender & denying the homophobic notion that lesbians have anything to do with penises.

We’ve spent forever having to deal with men wanting to ‘fix’ us and here we are again.

CorvusPurpureus · 01/05/2021 09:28

@OhHolyJesus

I was thinking the other night that none of this could be doing OP much good, & worrying a bit about her.

Oh yes. 100% that.

I'm just uncomfortable that this sort of SM obsession/determination to pick a fight in an empty lift attitude is something I've seen a few times over the years in various online communities, & it's tended to build to a crescendo followed by a spectacular meltdown.
