Shout out to my fellow lesbians on this important week!

I will be wearing my lesbian pride badge right next to my trans pride badge for the whole week in all public spaces.

@ASugarr are you yet again using the word 'cisgender' to refer to a group of people who may or may not identify that way despite arguing that you use it on this site (knowing that many of us object to it) on the basis that you are using it to refer only to yourself?

Never said you have to. But I am a cisgender woman so I'm using it to refer to myself and others who are cisgender.

PigeonPants · 29/04/2021 12:43

They still have not told me what the problem is with any of my posts, or how they violated the TOS OR the special requirements to shut women up on the feminist chat boards. How about it, @MNHQ?

heathspeedwell · 29/04/2021 12:44

But this week isn't about straight women, or bi women. It's about lesbian visibility.

I've seen so often that when you let male people who identify as lesbians into women-only spaces, the lesbians can't get a word in edgeways.

JensonsAcolyte · 29/04/2021 12:44

I’ve just realised I’ve been deleted too, and I’m scratching my head as to why.

Waitwhat23 · 29/04/2021 12:44

@asuggar absolute nonsense. You're doing it deliberately to be rude.

ASugarr · 29/04/2021 12:45

Because trans women can be lesbians. That's not for cisgender women to gatekeep.

No, it's not actually permitted to label non "cis" people with this in-group label referencing an ideology we don't share and which we find offensive. It's specifically mentioned in talk guidelines, so please be a little more thoughtful in how you construct your posts.

heathspeedwell · 29/04/2021 12:46

The word lesbian is already taken.

ASugarr · 29/04/2021 12:47

Yes however I am allowed to use it referring to myself and other women who are identified cisgender. MNHQ have discussed this with me before.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/04/2021 12:47

That's not for cisgender women to gatekeep.

There are no "cisgender women" on this thread, apart from you. Are you referring to your own gatekeeping of terms?

ASugarr · 29/04/2021 12:47

Any woman. No women can gate keep terms.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/04/2021 12:48

other women who are identified cisgender.

Then you will know that there are no other women who have identified themselves as "cisgender" on this thread.

Scepticaltank · 29/04/2021 12:48

We sure can.

ASugarr · 29/04/2021 12:48

@Ereshkigalangcleg

other women who are identified cisgender.

Okay but I'm not just talking about women in this thread.
CorvusPurpureus · 29/04/2021 12:49

It's not about 'gatekeeping', Asugarr, it's about whether or not you meet the definition.

I don't, because I am a woman who fancies men.

If I happened to be male, then regardless of whom I was attracted to, I wouldn't meet the definition of a lesbian.

& 'cisgender' women don't come into it. You guys don't speak for the vast majority of womankind, as poll after poll has shown. So maybe ditch the offensive use of the term as a generalisation for women, ok?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/04/2021 12:49

No women can gate keep terms.

A cup is not an apple. A broom is not a fork. See, I can gatekeep terms. We all do it. Every day.

JensonsAcolyte · 29/04/2021 12:50

We don’t have to gatekeep the term ‘lesbian’ though because as Rowan said upthread it is enshrined in law.

Transwomen are not of the same sex as women, therefore cannot be lesbians.

Waitwhat23 · 29/04/2021 12:50

I think I'll contact MNHQ to discuss it also - you are using it to refer to groups of women (who may or may not identify that way) not only to refer to people who do identify that way. You're doing it deliberately under the assumption you are being clever by using a loophole.

Beowulfa · 29/04/2021 12:50

"I'm a lesbian trapped in a man's body!" was a lame joke back in the 90s. I cannot take anyone seriously who bases their world view on something that could have been in a "bants column" in Nuts magazine.

It's profoundly disrespectful to all the actual lesbians who've struggled against centuries of tedious, predictable male oppression.

Only now the tedious, predictable male oppressors have the bare-arsed cheek to insist they're actually lesbians too.

ASugarr · 29/04/2021 12:51

Okay. Well I'll leave you all to continue to believe what you wish. However trans women are women therefore they can be lesbians if they are attracted to other women. That's it. Don't tell others who they have to be by your standards.
Whythesadface · 29/04/2021 12:51

Wondering how Biology 101 got so distorted, that it's come to this .
An island with no CIS females, but loads of Transwoman and CIS men, will mean no babies.WHY?
Because there are no woman .

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/04/2021 12:51

Okay but I'm not just talking about women in this thread.

Then please don't imply that the women on this thread are "cisgender". As we are not. So you should talk about "trans, "cis" and other women, always. For someone who is all about inclusion, this should be obvious.

ASugarr · 29/04/2021 12:52

Never did. Be whatever you want. I don't care.
CorvusPurpureus · 29/04/2021 12:53

I think I'll carry on believing in the legal definition of the word 'lesbian', as R0wantrees helpfully highlighted upthread, thanks.

The word is taken. People who don't fit the definition - good luck to you, love whoever will have you & all that - but you need a different word.
