Shout out to my fellow lesbians on this important week!

I will be wearing my lesbian pride badge right next to my trans pride badge for the whole week in all public spaces.

@Wandawomble - so sorry! That was NOT a dig at you. It was agreeing and applauding your post.

Yes. Even Twitter agreed that that twitter account was being hateful. Therefore, it must really be hateful as twitter has a rather big blind spot.

It is very much worth noting that the tweet was hateful.

Wandawomble · 30/04/2021 01:10

@Unreasonabubble no worries! It was good to clarify my Star Trek observation 😂

NecessaryScene1 · 30/04/2021 01:11

I'm still hoping for an answer to my "why?" Why does ASugarr identify as a woman?

I really want to see this articulated.

I rolled my eyes when I saw the OP then I despaired at the fact people engaged. Now I am glad everyone did. I am bookmarking this thread because it demonstrates clearly the rampant homophobia and misogyny all in one place.

I think on that basis it's probably going to get deleted. This sort of show often does ime.

Also, the rampant transphobia - when you get a self named 'c*s' woman and a person who says they are female, telling a transwoman how to be transgender. So transphobic.

Unreasonabubble · 30/04/2021 01:24

@toffeebutterpopcorn

It it’s lesbian week - take off the others and allow lesbians to have a week without any *

@ShizukuVulnerable minorities struggle simultaneously.

The fuck do they.

Yes. Trying to shut down a women's support group that has absolutely nothing to do with you^ because you are somewhat imaginatively offended on behalf of bereaved spouses who are another group that have nothing to do with^ you was pretty low. & quite fairly judged to be hateful.

That sort of behaviour is shabby & calls one's integrity into question.

Fernlake · 30/04/2021 01:32

The attempt to convene an attack on Tinsel's group, however, was nasty enough that I did hit the report button, & rather to my surprise, even Twitter agreed that it was 'hateful conduct'.

Wow. You have to go some for Twitter to dub your conduct hateful.

Helleofabore · 30/04/2021 01:38

Maybe that is a badge of honour for some though. Depends how you much you actually respect other human beings regardless of their beliefs.

@ASugarr
It is creepy to ask someone what genitals they have.

But.... but..... but.....

How on this very flat earth are we supposed to know whether to call someone a “penis-haver” or a “vagina-haver” if we don’t know about their genitals?

You set those labels up as the appropriate designations - so how do we “people” or “not-scientists” know how to courteously assign your chosen label without asking?

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 30/04/2021 04:58

Well no one follows gender stereotypes anymore so there isn't much to it other than wanting to be called a woman and having she/her pronouns

Bloody hell. And this is what we’re defending our single-sex spaces against? This is why women like Maya & Allison Bailey & J K Rowling are being threatened or attacked or losing their jobs for wrongthink? This is why kids are being drugged and sterilised?

Because people simply ‘want to be called a woman and have she / her pronouns’ or the opposite equivalent?

Puppymummy20 · 30/04/2021 06:35

I too was an early adopter. Back in the mists of time I actually worked and campaigned alongside Christine Burns, an early incarnation of Mermaids, Stephen Whittle, and GIRES, among others (though I recall we thought GIRES was nuts even in those days). As a PP says, never again.

I used to be sympathetic & not see what the problem was.

Until I saw the problem.

Somehow when I read posts by certain posters on this thread (not you, blackwhiteandstripey) it reminds me of this quote.

Well now. That means that the drugs and operations need to come off the NHS then. Because I ‘want’ to have my nose changed but the NHS won’t fund that. If it is just a matter of ‘wanting’, then clearly it should be self funded.

Too easy.

NecessaryScene1 · 30/04/2021 07:56

Me too. Also these philosophers:

Majikthise: Bloody 'ell! That’s what I call thinking! Here Vroomfondel, why do we never think of things like that?

Vroomfondel: Dunno. Think our minds must be too highly trained, Majikthise.

Thanks for the giggle. Must read the books again.

Such an illuminating thread.

Not very edifying though.

Thanks ASugarr. This post offers great clarity at last!

I am sure that it will get picked up by those visitors from twitter and other social media platforms too. There will be many people wanting to thank you for your clearing that those misconceptions up I think.

Including the OP I am sure.

Here's the thing. When it's a medical situation and we are discussing something that affects people with certain biological parts (like a uterus, etc) then that's where it is appropriate to use the terms "those with a penis/vagina/uterus/etc". We aren't talking about that here. We are talking about sexuality. Which unless you are jumping into bed with S then you don't need to know what genitals she has. At all. She is a woman, she has a wife and is a lesbian. That's all you need to know.

WoolOfBat · 30/04/2021 08:12

I am with BadGherkin... I am bit confused about the terminology.

On one hand, people are divided into penis people and vagina havers....

On the other hand, it is gross to mention genitalia...
