Shout out to my fellow lesbians on this important week!

I will be wearing my lesbian pride badge right next to my trans pride badge for the whole week in all public spaces.

It must be so frustrating for posters like you and BlueLipstickRocks, Hamster. The landscape has changed so much.

ANewCreation · 29/04/2021 14:34

Comprehension skills alert. Hamster's post at 14:15 is simply referring to themself as a trans person not being allowed to tell the truth on this page about biological facts, not a generalisation about trans people. Please reinstate.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 29/04/2021 14:35

This thread is looking like Swiss cheese. Have naughty people been saying ‘stuff’ again?

yourhairiswinterfire · 29/04/2021 14:40

Talking of ice cream, I have some really nice rum and raisin in the freezer and it's calling my name.

Envy Sharing is caring, Hamster.

The best I've got is some own brand boring vanilla stuff that was opened roughly 3 years ago and forgotten about Blush

You can't get poisoned or anything from antique ice cream, can you? Asking for a friend..

GNCQ · 29/04/2021 14:41

I'd describe a trans lesbian as a female person who is trans (a transman or non binary person) who is attracted to people of the same sex as them.

It wouldn't involve a person with a penis.

Anyway.
Happy lesbian visibility week!

Waitwhat23 · 29/04/2021 14:42

@HamsterV2 ooh, you've made me want ice cream. It's a far and distant dream but there's an ice-cream made in the Lake District called Thunder and Lightning that I love - I could eat a bucketful right now

ANewCreation · 29/04/2021 14:42

In the interests of Lesbian Visibility week, can anyone give us some interesting podcasts or videos or channels to watch which centre lesbians?

We've already linked the inimitable Magdalen Berns, but who else should we be aware of?

DarlingWithoutYou · 29/04/2021 14:42

@BlackWaveComing

Lesbian - female with a same-sex orientation.

Male people of whatever gender don't get a look in, I'm afraid. People born male who have an exclusive orientation to females are heterosexual.

People born male who claim to be lesbians are lying. No male born person can ever experience a same sex orientation to females...because they are of the opposite sex.

I'd heard that MN was transphobic but hadn't seen it for myself til this thread. Wow, eyes opened.

OP- happy lesbian visibility week from me and my wifey!

GNCQ · 29/04/2021 14:43

Vanilla is so last decade. It'll poison you even if it was bought yesterday.

Doyoumind · 29/04/2021 14:43

I did a bit of totally unscientific research on twitter on LVD and what struck me, but didn't surprise me, was that trans lesbians posting pictures of themselves got far more responses and far more positive feedback than females posting pics of themselves.

I think it's sad that females who love females don't get the visibility they might expect on the one day/week set aside for them.

HamsterV2 · 29/04/2021 14:45

I think Vanilla is acceptable if it's proper Cornish clotted cream ice cream. (Just).

Yeah you want to avoid vanilla. It's kink-negative, boring, old-fashioned, just not "queer" enough Grin
DialSquare · 29/04/2021 14:47

Mmmmmmmm ice cream (Homer Simpsonesque dribble)

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 29/04/2021 14:50

I haven't rtft but my god, this is so disrespectful of lesbians' sexual boundaries.
If you're on here arguing about how lesbians need to be inclusive of the opposite sex during Lesbian Visibility Week when lesbians have been fighting for centuries for the right to be same-sex attracted, then you're really not making the argument you think you are.
But sure, keep making that argument. The more people that see it, the better.

How about some of this @Cakedays? I think this ticks some of the more fashionable boxes...

It is. And you might expect the letters of the alphabet who are centred frequently to give them that one day.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 29/04/2021 14:53

Also, pistachio is the best ice cream flavour, followed by coffee. You vanilla and/or rum and raisin people are just plain wrong.
Not sure I'd have any of them if it had just fallen off a horse's head, mind you.

Oh, poor vanilla ice cream. Not only has it been tragically neglected, it's now being invalidated and shamed 😞

Verfs, the lot of you!

Allison Bailey in conversation with Linda Bellos
LGB Alliance
"“Visibility Blues: Black lesbians refusing to identify out of our oppression.”
Linda Bellos and Allison Bailey talk frankly about lesbian visibility in 2020, discussing why being a lesbian is not merely an identity that one puts on — anymore than being black — it’s a lived reality rooted in struggle that is ongoing. This is manna for the soul in especially trying and uncertain times. The message is one of resistance and hope. A wonderful exchange. Please forgive the picture and audio quality.
Recorded on 28th April 2020."

Stopthisnow · 29/04/2021 14:55

This thread demonstrates very well the problems lesbians (homosexual females) like me have been trying to highlight for years. The GRA and gender identity policies have led to a current situation where heterosexual males (most of whom have their genitals intact) feel entitled to identify as women and lesbian women, and assert that it is their ‘right’ to be included in lesbian and female spaces, that anyone who objects is a bigot or ‘transphobic’ and is denying their ‘rights’. I firmly believe this current situation needs to be spoken about in parliament and written about in mainstream media loudly and often, as most people believe it is a travesty when they understand that the GRA and gender identity policies have led to a situation where heterosexual males (particularly those with intact genitals) feel free to identify as women and lesbian women, and claim it is their ‘right’ to be treated as women and lesbian women and permitted into lesbian and female only spaces. I am very pleased the harms of gender ideology to young people and female sport are being highlighted in parliament and mainstream media, but this specific issue has not had anywhere near the publicity and it most definitely needs to become common public knowledge in my opinion.

Indeed. And then accuse people who do not agree that males can be lesbians of being Transphobic.
JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 29/04/2021 14:59

Hear hear stopthisnow. The arrogance and and sense of entitlement to lesbians is utterly mindboggling.

justawoman · 29/04/2021 14:59

It’s so true about our culture being destroyed. Just one instance of many: I live in a large city. I was feeling a bit isolated in lockdown and saw that the LGBT centre had a women’s group on zoom. I enquired with the ‘lesbian support worker’ about this and was told that it was run in conjunction with the trans support worker and that normally three people turned up, all of them transwomen. If you don’t believe that male people turning up puts off lesbians look at that. Also, she then told me that there would soon be a special session run with a sex shop discussing sex toys and techniques, presumably with the same three trans women in attendance. I politely declined and haven’t been near the Centre since.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 29/04/2021 15:14

Happy lesbian visibility week!

Wouldn’t it be a woman who has always felt gay but maybe didn’t ‘come out’ but has not made the transition to being a full time lesbian? Nothing to do with gender or sex (like trans fats or trans Atlantic travel).

It’s a confusing term.
