Genital Inspections

The Florida House passed a bill on April 14, 2021, that would ban trans girls and women from playing on high school and collegiate teams. It would also allow schools to require a genital inspection of student athletes suspected of being trans.

This is child sexual abuse. I hope this never ends up happening in the UK. Trans girls and women deserve to play in women's sports. Trans boys and men deserve to play in men's sports. Period.

@ASugarr

It seems this has become more about transgender people in sports rather than the main subject matter which was subjecting children to genital examinations. So I'll leave you all to continue the sports debate if you wish. However I will only be replying to comments specifically on the subject of the bill.
Thats because what you have quoted is a misinterpretation of the rules. There is no point arguing something that isn't true.

As other posters have already stated its a normal process for children to register for organised sports. My son played football for years, as a contact sport children's football is segregated by sex and age, every year they had to register with their birth certificate to prove their age and sex. I don't know how this works for other sports but this has been a standard procedure for football for some years now.

Erkrie · 18/04/2021 09:13

However when a GRC is issued ( in uk) or name changes by deed poll these do not indicate the truth. So for people committed to cheating, it could make it easier.

Yes this certainly is a problem. Which has made it harder for biological girls.

334bu · 18/04/2021 09:14

It is also important to understand that this is happening. Right now. Right now, there are women and girls being harmed not just physically, but their future opportunities too, by the inclusion of males in the female category of sport. That is what these bills are aiming to prevent.

Not just Olympics, increasing numbers of male born athletes gaining positions on female professional sports teams are depriving women of making a living doing the sport they love.

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 18/04/2021 09:16

I wonder if the 'OMG genital inspections' thing is also to deflect from the fact that a simple cheek swab test would be adequate - because it doesn't matter how many hormones you take, or how much surgery you have, your DNA will always give you away....

334bu · 18/04/2021 09:16

By the way did we ever get a list of the sports in which the OP can out perform men?

I0NA · 18/04/2021 09:18

No we didn’t. I’m also very interested to see this.
Grinch48 · 18/04/2021 09:19

I remember reading that only dressage - showjumping and I think archery were the only sports that men and women compete equally as it’s not based on strength

However the example of dancing croquet I think are pretty stupid -I’m not going to be worried about a 6ft man knocking me out when doing the waltz

Men & women use different weight bows in archery

Genital Inspections
NotTerfNorCis · 18/04/2021 09:33

TRAs have been going berserk over the idea of 'genital exams '.

This thread is full of evidence that it's a load of nonsense.

The OP has lost this debate on both areas : 'genital inspections ' and whether and why some sports should be sex segregated.

Lifeaintalwaysempty · 18/04/2021 09:35

Hi OP, just popped on to say women and girls deserve to be able to play sex segregated sports.

IloveJKRowling · 18/04/2021 09:36

Yes the picture speaks a thousand words.

Babies and dogs can tell adult males from adult females whatever they're wearing, the whole body shape, smell a million things are totally different. Once past puberty, it's obvious (assuming the children haven't been put on puberty blockers and if you want to talk child abuse, let's start there).

The cases in which a genetic test or birth certificate would be needed would be minute, and probably only then because someone refuses to back down when lying about what their very obvious biological sex is.

IloveJKRowling · 18/04/2021 09:40

Being able to tell adult males from adult females (past puberty males and females) is, I think, evolutionarily hard wired. Instinctive.

This total delusional fiction that there is any doubt in 99.999999% of cases is incredibly damaging.

And next, the sky is green, the earth is flat and carried on the back of a giant turtle. Fact. You're bigoted if you disagree.

Nodal · 18/04/2021 09:41

Er you do realise that my kids have to prove their age to play in the local football league already right? All kids have to prove what school year they're in to play in organised clubs, because otherwise you get older kids playing down to get an advantage and it's dangerous (and that's in non mixed sex teams)

Ah you again! Hello there ASugarr.

So what you are saying is that because some males wish to be allowed to play in women’s sports, all women and girls will potentially be subject to genital inspections in the whim of anyone who thinks they look a bit masculine?

That is terribly serious. I do hope trans women globally will immediately retract their demands to play in women’s sports in order to protect everyone from this terrible abuse.

Or. You know. Everyone could just get a doctors note to confirm their biological sex. And trans women can play on a trans team in a trans tournament.

And still does not (yet) seem to have the decency to recognise her OP was misleading and acknowledge the true and fair arguments about why sports (as a rule) should be segregated by sex.
Gobbeldegook · 18/04/2021 09:44

Genital examination isn't necessary. Birth certificate or DNA testing would suffice.
I'm pleased they are legislating. I don't want there to be a biological male on my pubescent daughter's football team, sharing her showers, her changing in front of him, him tackling her on the field.

It is child abuse to make young people change infront of the opposite sex.

It is child abuse to allow children to get hurt on the playing field because they are playing contact sports against the opposite sex.

Yes there are times men and women can compete together, equally.

Golf
Snooker
Ping-pong
Darts
Chess
Cards
Horse racing
Etc

But not when a biological male will have an unfair physical advantage over a biological female.
It's cheating and often dangerous to the female.

Football
Rugby
Boxing
MMA
Running
Javelin
Weight lifting
Shotput
Swimming
Rowing
Etc etc etc

The only reason you've posted here is for a fight.

You know this is a huge win for women's rights and your pissed off that your sexist views aren't being accepted.

No doubt your going to call me transphobic. I'm not transphobic.

I'm all for trans people being able to compete competitively, transmen can compete against transmen, transwomen can compete against transwomen.

Just like disabled people compete against disabled people. Because it wouldn't be fair on the disabled person to have an amputee competing with fully able bodied people.
Just like it's not fair on biologically female people to have a biologically male person in the race.

Cis is bollocks.
Stop trying to change my identity to suit yours.

Absolutely 💯

So this entire story (and thread) is about a misrepresentation of a political item in a way that sensationalises its reporting and garners clicks for advertisers?

Mmn654123 and others have provided very helpful and clear summaries.

StarintheMorning · 18/04/2021 09:49

users.ox.ac.uk/~croquet/

Let me just post this link here, and ask you to look at the pictures. They may say that croquet is played by all regardless of sex/age etc but see who the real players are. Those who get an Oxford half blue.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/04/2021 09:49
  • So this entire story (and thread) is about a misrepresentation of a political item in a way that sensationalises its reporting and garners clicks for advertisers?

Seems to be. I'd have thought that was not really in the spirit of MN.

334bu · 18/04/2021 09:49

Golf? Surely women can't hit the ball as hard as men ? Could the female no.1 compete with the best men?

Nodal · 18/04/2021 09:49

And do you not think all professional and semi professional athletes have regular checkups at the doctor's? (Physical exams as the Americans call them). Children applying for sports scholarships here at 11/12 are already heavily scrutinised, as are kids scouted for football clubs. Noone is going to drop that kind of money without shoveling their investment out. This is no different.

Nodal · 18/04/2021 09:50

Checking not shoveling

viques · 18/04/2021 09:54

@Bearsinmotion

Why are sports sex-segregated?
Because otherwise I would beat Usain every time and the poor guy wouldn’t be strong enough to bear the shame.
