Genital Inspections

The Florida House passed a bill on April 14, 2021, that would ban trans girls and women from playing on high school and collegiate teams. It would also allow schools to require a genital inspection of student athletes suspected of being trans.

This is child sexual abuse. I hope this never ends up happening in the UK. Trans girls and women deserve to play in women's sports. Trans boys and men deserve to play in men's sports. Period.

@BaseDrops

How has any American child got into school or sports undocumented?

They have to provide evidence of vaccinations to attend school so they will have seen a doctor. If home schooled they will still have a birth certificate.

I'm unsure what the procedure in America is. However in the UK you can have your child's personal information at school (such as their sex/gender registered) changed with a consenting adults permission. Usually a parent or guardian.

But a birth certificate with sex on it still exists.

“A.Sugarr

Never said it would be immediate”

You did seem to think it might be immediate:

“A.Sugarr

Yes however this is the way the bill here states it wishes to check. Probably because they would want an immediate answer. I understand there are other ways but this bill clearly states it will do immediate examinations to check a child's sex.“

EdgeOfACoin · 18/04/2021 21:01

I see Leafstamp's question has been overlooked in the maelstrom of questions.

I'll repeat it so ASugarr can see it:

Given that sports are and are likely to continue to be segregated by sex, and that you disagree with the bill, how do you propose that the sex-segregation rule that allows girls to play safely and fairly will be upheld? Given you are a feminist of course.

That if they have concerns they request documents and information after the sports game to prevent any unwanted attention or anything like that. Plus it should just require a birth certificate. Nothing else.

This. OP, you said immediate. Literally. Stop lying and just admit when you are caught out in inconsistencies! Life is easier when you don't have to keep track of lies. The trick is to not lie in the first place!
ASugarr · 18/04/2021 21:08

Cool well done. Doesn't mean I think children's pants will be pulled down there and then. Obviously 😂 Never lied.

I would imagine a BC is the first thing they will look at however as we know documents can be faked so I assume the bill had multiples ways of finding out the sex to counteract forgeries.

"Cool well done"?

This is a serious matter. Language matters. Intent matters.

One minute you say you're genuinely concerned about children's safety then when you are proven in a lie (I didn't say I meant immediately vs yes you did) you think the idea of pulling kids pants down is something laughable after all?

You do a huge disservice to trans people when you claim to be an ally and then use such ridiculous tactics, keep calling a discussion an 'argument' and act accordingly and say "I'm not talking about that" whenever challenged on something.

The reverse ferret of all reverse ferrets:

Evidence supplied

That's not what I meant even if I said those words but I'm not lying

Superb.

You can't possibly be this oblivious as to how you're coming across. If you had just held your hands up once it was obvious you'd misread the bill and said you'd misunderstood, people would have respected that. As it is, you'll certainly be convincing people but not in the way you claim to hope.

WoolOfBat · 18/04/2021 21:17

I feel very uncomfortable with a laughing emoji next to a statement about children’s pants being pulled down.

RedDogsBeg · 18/04/2021 21:18

However I do stick to my view.

Indeed you do @ASugarr even when proven wrong, you also claim to be a trans ally and couch all your posts as speaking up and out for trans people and yet BlueLipstickRocks a transwomen is very clear that you don't speak on their behalf and in fact what you are saying and promoting is harmful to them. Perhaps you should listen to what BlueLipstickRocks says since they are, you know, one of the people you profess to be an ally of.

Same. Increasingly appalling lack of self awareness and undeserved self satisfaction.

Okay that's great. However I didn't read the bill wrong. I knew from the start the basics however I don't think a genital inspection should ever be allowed.

@ASugarr

I did ask you some time ago to expand on how in your experience you reconcile the denial of sex differences and the impact this has on sport as a feminist position and you are still to explain this.

Can you do this?

serendipitea · 18/04/2021 21:22

Plus it should just require a birth certificate.

Unfortunately birth certificates ave lost their meaning as an objective record.

It seems we are in an arms race, and any attempt to dilute the rights and dignity of gitls and women will be met by reaction such as legislation like this one and the fight to uphold the hard-won rights for womens safety.

If transactivists had left birth certificates well alone, we wouldn't be in this situation that concerns the OP.

NotTerfNorCis · 18/04/2021 21:23

There can still be women's teams. If that's what people want then sure. But trans women are women so they should be included

How about 'female teams' then? Which is what they really are.

TW are male by definition. They're of the male sex. And it's logical to divide sports on sex, which is physical, rather than gender identity, which is a personal belief.

But they can't be changed until they are an adult, and as we are talking about children there is no issue with just supplying a birth certificate.

So no genital examinations even when medically warranted but maiming teenagers genitals with hormones and surgery is ok yeah? Your opinions don't hold water.

Not read the whole thread sorry.

  1. The idea that a school would not know the sex of their students, a very basic piece on information, is peculiar
  1. This is school sport? At the schools around here the children have single sex changing for sports including swimming. The idea that it works go unnoticed that one of the children was the opposite sex is a bit of a reach. I also assume we're talking about puberty and onwards. Secondary sexual characteristics exist as well. Obviously the children are usually trying not to show too much or looking around but I'd still think it pretty unlikely it wouldn't be noticed
  1. The amount of time people who are concerned about the erosion of single sex stuff gets accused of wanting intimate examinations is a bit odd

I'll read the rest now.

RedDogsBeg · 18/04/2021 21:28

Um, yes you did, the Bill does not say what your opening post says it does. Furthermore, you have just admitted you have absolutely zero idea how American Schools and Colleges operate, the criteria they use when registering students, nor anything about their sporting programmes and yet here you are declaring with absolute certainty that you are right about American State Legislation and American Schools and Colleges.

You've read a headline and jumped to conclusions and posted them as irrefutable fact without the requisite knowledge or understanding.
