Genital Inspections

The Florida House passed a bill on April 14, 2021, that would ban trans girls and women from playing on high school and collegiate teams. It would also allow schools to require a genital inspection of student athletes suspected of being trans.

This is child sexual abuse. I hope this never ends up happening in the UK. Trans girls and women deserve to play in women's sports. Trans boys and men deserve to play in men's sports. Period.

Okay so to be clear, if this were to happen in the UK you would be okay with your child (transgender or not) to have a genital examination if you didn't bring their birth certificate to every sports game? You'd be okay for someone to do that to your child?

I wouldn't be ok with them being kidnapped by Martians from their netball game or water cannoned for being offside at football.

Luckily these are Things. That. Don't. Happen.

Like your scenario.

AssassinatedBeauty · 18/04/2021 19:09

It isn't going to happen in the UK, it isn't even going to happen in the US. You've repeatedly refused to understand what that bill states and what would happen in reality.

Do you still not understand that there are other ways to prove a childs sex?
Erkrie · 18/04/2021 19:09

No child should have to go through that just to partake in a sport. Just because someone suspects something. Its wrong.

I'm happy for my daughter to do that in order to ensure her safety in playing against her own biological sex. Having just asked her, if that's what it came to, she would be happy too for the same reasons. Of course we'd both prefer that activists hadn't actually put women and girls in the position where they needed to do this, (and the chances of actually needing it instead of the other options that are clearly are available are slim), but yes, if it comes to that then that's fine. Very nice of you to concern yourself over our children though. I wish you'd show a little more concern for their physical safety, but I guess that would be asking way too much.

Just to Flowers @YouSetTheTone - I haven't read all 29 pages of this thread. But Rowling's essay was thoughtful and sensitive and has been misread by so many. I think those who did actually read what she wrote still applaud her for highlighting the issues important to women and children's rights. She started a discussion for many, and discussion is so important in this arena.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 18/04/2021 19:10

It would also allow schools to require a genital inspection of student athletes suspected of being trans

This was the bit that wasn't true in the OP. Schools cannot require genital inspections. They can ask a student to confirm their sex if that student wishes to take part in a sport.
That can be done by way of the student's preference. They could give a cheek swab or get a note from their existing doctor which confirms birth sex. No one is requiring this.
In the extremely unusual event that a student wanted to confirm their birth sex and did not want to do it by any of the other options, then they could choose to have an examination by a healthcare professional instead.
There are no circumstances where a school can force a requirement examining the genitals of students. None.
@MNHQ if the OP requests for this thread to be taken down, please let it stand. There has been so much misinformation around this issue. It's important that the clear refutations of all the rumours are left up..

As has been repeatedly pointed out, even if medical confirmation is required there are three accepted means of checking sex.
  1. Physical exam.

OR

  1. Cheek swab for DNA analysis

OR

  1. Blood test for testosterone level

Nobody is forcing anyone to have their genitalia examined. If you don’t want that for your child, choose one of the other two options.

ASugarr · 18/04/2021 19:11

Yes however this is the way the bill here states it wishes to check. Probably because they would want an immediate answer. I understand there are other ways but this bill clearly states it will do immediate examinations to check a child's sex.

@ASugarr

I don't want this thread taken down. If this happens in this country and mothers ate rightfully outraged I want them to know that there are women out there who think this is okay.
Mothers, and indeed fathers, are far more concerned and rightfully outraged with the prospect of the safety, privacy and dignity of their daughters being disregarded and want to see fair and safe competition for them against members of their own sex rather than stand by and witness them being injured, or worse, and losing places they should rightfully have gained on a team to a participant that identifies as female whilst maintaining all the physical and biological advantages of being male.

Not sure why the parent would get their transgirl to do that when it's clear they wouldn't be eligible to play in the girls / women's team. Seems a little bit abusive and on the road to nowhere. Just why...

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 18/04/2021 19:12

By why would they need to bring it to every game? They don't take it to school every day to prove they are in the correct year group for their age. Their schools (and I've had 2 dc in 3 schools) saw them when they registered there to make sure they were starting at the right time. That's it.
The same as I didn't take my birth certificate to work everyday to prove my ID/ right to work in the UK/ whatever the fuck they needed it for when I started.

Why would their sports coach need to see it every day/week/match? Unless it could somehow magically change.

Could you quote or link to this paragraph in the Bill please?

Are you still banging this same drum that has been proved wrong numerous times throughout this thread?

Have you actually read any of the other posts in this thread or are you just making it up as you go along?

LastRoloIsMine · 18/04/2021 19:13

Asugarr seriously do you struggle to understand the written word?

You are liberally making things up. You have been repeatedly caught lying throughout this thread about the Bill and its content.

Grow up and admit you were wrong.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 18/04/2021 19:14

And yes, I'd be happy to provide a copy of my child's birth certificate to the school to confirm which team is most appropriate for him to play on.
My 12yo DS is already incredibly strong. He could easily hurt a girl accidentally in a sports game. Neither he nor I would want that.

theThreeofWeevils · 18/04/2021 19:14

I wouldn't be ok with them being kidnapped by Martians from their netball game
God, I would have been at times. Those darn kidnappy Martians - never around when you need them.

Erkrie · 18/04/2021 19:15

but this bill clearly states it will do immediate examinations to check a child's sex.

Well even if that actually was true, (which let's face it, is going to be pretty rare) then If that's what it takes to keep girls / women's sport single sex and safer, then yep, fine.

goldielockdown2 · 18/04/2021 19:15

You know, OP that child sexual abuse is an emotive subject and hoped to use that as a 'hook' to gain the outrage of others for your own ends. An utterly shitty, manipulative thing to do.

WoolOfBat · 18/04/2021 19:15

OP I think you really don’t need to worry about any forced genital inspections due to children “not having the documentation on them”.

For competitive grassroots football already at age 8/9 in the UK, the players need to be registered as a member of their team in order to be allowed to play. A photograph of their passport is required in order to prove age (as far as I know). In addition, a recent head photo is required. As the passport also has the sex, this means that sex also is provided. This certification will then last for the entire season.

I have never been asked for additional ID in a match. I would assume that if disputed (someone thought my son wasn’t allowed to play), a photograph of his face would be taken and compared to the head photo and passport photo on the file.

As you can see, there is no constant documentation needed and certainly no inspection for age. I assume that it could work in a similar way for sex. You don’t need to worry at all! Smile

AnyOldPrion · 18/04/2021 19:16

@ASugarr

Another lie.

The part of the bill I read is clear. Where there is dispute a medical certificate will be requested.

Presumably then there is another section you haven’t mentioned that you are basing your entire argument on.

Can you quote me the section from the bill itself (not from any news report) that states that immediate inspections will be carried out.

CorvusPurpureus · 18/04/2021 19:16

I'm beginning to wonder if OP somehow mistook She's The Man for a documentary.

Leafstamp · 18/04/2021 19:18

@AnyOldPrion

It would require a genital inspection if they didn't have documentation on them or they questioned the legitimacy of the documentation

Repeating a lie over and over doesn’t make it true.

Indeed.

I don’t think anything involving sports would require a genital inspection.

Most people will just go away and get the required documentation. Even if that does involve a doctor checking genitals then a parent would be present and doesn’t constitute child abuse Confused
