Genital Inspections

The Florida House passed a bill on April 14, 2021, that would ban trans girls and women from playing on high school and collegiate teams. It would also allow schools to require a genital inspection of student athletes suspected of being trans.

This is child sexual abuse. I hope this never ends up happening in the UK. Trans girls and women deserve to play in women's sports. Trans boys and men deserve to play in men's sports. Period.

Just checking in to see if @ASugarr has answered my question yet.
Same here....luckily I'm not holding my breath!

CirclesWithinCircles · 18/04/2021 13:09

Jessica Zelinka doesn't have a "narrow pelvis like a man". She has a pelvis containing a uterus. That is what trained athletes look like. From all women, trained athletes will naturally select from those who predispose to narrower pelvises, but their Q angle never approaches the measurement of the male Q angle because they have a uterus. Only an ray and measurement points would tell the true story, not a pretty picture.

A better example is what the former Michael Jamieson looked like after years on puberty blockers, whilst winning women's championship races.

Shizuku · 18/04/2021 13:10

@lonel

I consider it sexist to tell some women and men that they can't participate in a sport just because they are transgender, intersex, etc. Except literally nobody is doing this as has been pointed out many times.

Oh look here's shizuku to tell us that it's actually all about looks. I find it rather disturbing that you spam every thread with photos of prepubescent children. This has nothing to do with what we are talking about. Why not go back to the many other threads you have popped up on and actually address the issues raised rather than ignoring them and posting the same irrelevant links again and again?

That's not my quote, and I haven't posted pictures of children either. Do try to pay more attention.
CirclesWithinCircles · 18/04/2021 13:11

Can't seem to post an image, so heres a link to a photo of the former Michael running as a woman after years on puberty blockers:

No. Not yet. As you were then.

@yourhairiswinterfire

What do you think they mean by "reproductive anatomy"?

What do you think they mean by ''may verify'', or ''relying only on one OR more''?

Because that to me isn't suggesting that anyone will be forced, or required as stated in the OP, to undergo genital inspections at all?

Why do they mention it if no one is expected to do it?
lonel · 18/04/2021 13:13

You posted a thumbnail picture linking to a video - memory problems per chance?
And yes, the first part of my post was referring to the author of the quote, not you. Do try to keep up.

FreyaFolkvangr · 18/04/2021 13:13

If she has a narrow pelvis, like a man, isn't that an unfair advantage?

Lol.

She has a female pelvis, in her female body. No one is expecting athletes to be able to compete only if they all have the exact same body types. The important factor is their sex.

CirclesWithinCircles · 18/04/2021 13:14

And heres a link to a photo of Jessica Zelinka and the other leading women heptathletes in that Olympics:

FreyaFolkvangr · 18/04/2021 13:17

OP I think this is so disingenuous of you.

I actually hate the idea of genital examinations. I don't want any child or teen to be put through that. It sounds violating when you think of that being a possibility. I don't believe that's what's going to happen, though, and you know what, if there were no males out there trying to cheat, this bill would never have been passed full stop. I say shame on any boy or man who tries to game the system by pretending they're female and shame on the adults who've tried to accommodate that cheating and told girls they just have to take this. It's theft, really, when you look at the financial losses an elite group of women face when they miss out on sports scholarships, jobs and sponsorship because males have taken their rightful spots.

That's the scandal here.

Erkrie · 18/04/2021 13:17

Because women lose their privilege to participate if they are found with high testosterone levels.

That person you link is intersex (intersex people have asked not to be dragged into this, but still people persist). That person also identifies as female, which is fine as an intersex person, but they are a biological male. Please be respectful and stop dragging intersex people into this, as that is pretty unkind.

yourhairiswinterfire · 18/04/2021 13:19

Why do they mention it if no one is expected to do it?

It's a choice, one of the options available. It doesn't say anywhere that they'll be forced to take that option. They can take a cheek swab, a blood test etc.

So it's incorrect for people to suggest that genital inspections are a requirement.

FightingTheFoo · 18/04/2021 13:20

"If she has a narrow pelvis, like a man, isn't that an unfair advantage?"

No more than being 6 foot 9 is an unfair advantage in the NBA. She's still a biological woman with a completely different biological make up to a biological male.

It is incredibly regressive and offensive you think that one attribute entirely negates a person's sex. Dehumanising, even.

Erkrie · 18/04/2021 13:20

I agree Freya. We wouldn't be in this position if it wasn't for the actions of others who think they have the right to everything, whether it belongs to them or not.

Nellodee · 18/04/2021 13:22

It's important to remember that this law is only going to be brought into effect when people have good reason to believe a transgirl is unfairly competing in the female sex competition. I'd imagine in most of those cases, they will be correct, and they will be trans. In which case, they absolutely do not have to have a physical exam - they can just bog off back to the male races where they should have been competing in the first place.

QuentinBunbury · 18/04/2021 13:22

Great post freya Star

andyoldlabour · 18/04/2021 13:23

Wow! 22 pages and counting of one thread based on an incorrect assumption.
A whole thread based on an opponent (Democratic representative) to sports being segregated by sex, who was scaremongering.
All you really need is a simple blood test, or an original birth certificate, surely that isn't too much to ask?
It was however too much to ask for this person, who is thankfully still in prison, unfortunately a women's prison.

What if they are poor and a genital exam is cheaper than lab tests?

What if the healthcare professional insists on a genital exam because, you know, some people are dodgy?

What about the psychological, and social effects on a gender non-conforming girl who is required to take a test to prove she is a girl?

It's amazing to me the things GC people will wave by if they think it will help to exclude trans people.

lonel · 18/04/2021 13:25

I think you've nailed it! Grin

Whatwouldscullydo · 18/04/2021 13:26

In what way are trans people excluded. They can compete in their correct sex category

yourhairiswinterfire · 18/04/2021 13:27

They can play fairly and safely with their own sex class. No one is being excluded, or banned, from playing sport.

lonel · 18/04/2021 13:27

Shizuku- bit late to the party. We have already dealt with those points. Still doesn't make it fair to compete though. You are just arguing that it should be ok to cheat and we should have no checks and balances. Why are you defending cheating?

What do you think the psychological effect would be on this girl if she was told she was only allowed to play hockey with boys?
