"I'm going to dump a whole tub of period diarrhea on them"

Charming tweet Hmm

I mean, how far is this going to have to go to appease; are we going to have to redefine biological functions to suit? Arrrgggh Gin

Perhaps this person missed biology at school, and also talking to any women, ever. I wonder what his mother thinks? I suspect we should just laugh and walk away from these types of claims, they don't exactly reflect well on the claimant.

No they don’t reflect well

But people believe it

nobodysdaughter · 11/04/2021 09:40

Oh now that really IS horrible. Honestly!

InsideNumberNine · 11/04/2021 09:42

Well it doesn’t really matter if they missed biology at school, since we’re constantly being told to think beyond what we learned in our ‘eighth grade biology lessons’...

Cabinfever10 · 11/04/2021 09:42

Wow just wow

Helleofabore · 11/04/2021 10:01

Actually, this tweet may be topical too.

twitter.com/ripx4nutmeg/status/1379703954276241411?s=21

The tweet says
The Body Shop (BS) has picked a natal male who IDs as a woman to talk about period shame in India, where 23 million girls drop out of school due to it. The person said they buy sanitary pads for 'excess vaginal discharge'. BS thanked them for raising awareness to 'menstruators'

I believe it refers to an Instagram post.

The world really has gone awry.

Psuedoshoes · 11/04/2021 10:13

Well if periods don't mean menstruating then I guess period poverty doesn't exist around the world anymore? This seems to be what it's coming to. Will charities eventually start to focus on distribution of hormone blockers and the likes rather than sanitary equipment as gender ideology starts to take over? 2 years ago I'd have thought a statement like that was bonkers, now I'm not so sure...

What the fuck

Please tell me thats not actually true

Psuedoshoes · 11/04/2021 10:15

Thanks @Helleofabore - I hadn't been aware of that. I guess I won't be shopping at the Body Shop any more!

period diarrhea
Fucking hell you don't shit from your uterus mate.

That's so offensive to women I don't have the words.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/04/2021 10:30

Vile. So unfeminine. The tweet was reported and doesn’t contravene twatter guidelines apparently.

And Body Shop is also into bullying JKR. twitter.com/jk_rowling/status/1269382518362509313?s=21

Helleofabore · 11/04/2021 10:30

I believe it happened as per the screen shots in the tweet. Apologies for not attaching but the text is so small that copying it means I cannot get a clear shot.

Helleofabore · 11/04/2021 10:42

The thing that makes this Bodyshop India post marginally ok is that the transwoman is very upfront about how and why they are using menstrual products.

I guess any awareness is good.

However any usage of someone like this as an ambassador would be highly inappropriate in my opinion in a country already carrying a stigma around periods. Mixing the messages is not appropriate for progress for girls and women.

StillAFemale · 11/04/2021 11:09

That’s grim

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 11/04/2021 11:14

So now 'period' just means whatever a male wants it to mean now too? In this case, irritable bowel?

IDontOnlyLikeJazzFunk · 11/04/2021 11:22

I think this could be culturally difficult as well in a country where ‘women’s issues’ are taboo in many ways - I can’t imagine those girls feeling comfortable hearing about periods from a male.

I certainly would have been mortified.

Yes, the question is who is it that actually benefits from the use of that person as an ambassador? Is it those women and girls?

To be fair if you take the time to read the Bodyshop article by the trans woman I think it's actually not bad.

The writer isn't comparing what they experience with having a period but comparing the sense of shame felt when buying products and going on to consider the difficulties women and girls experience. It read to me as more of a light bulb moment than anything else.

Soubriquet · 11/04/2021 11:43

How lovely

No woman would ever say that in real life

And TW cannot biologically ever have a period....so if they are bleeding down below from somewhere, I would advise medical help

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/04/2021 11:58

I know nothing about the way oestrogen is prescribed for TW. For all I know, they don't get a standard dose for every day of the week. Maybe they get a high dose on some days, low on others, which would be a bit like us. Do they get progesterone at all?

Anyway, I've seen claims on Twitter that the important thing about having periods is having your oestrogen levels going up and down and affecting mood, causing cramps and a craving for chocolate etc. Any attempt to point out that a period is only a period if it involves the uterus expelling its lining at the start of a new menstrual cycle, ie no blood, no period, is just batted away. The bleeding is not a trivial detail, but these numpties and their cheerleaders won't have that.

BraveBananaBadge · 11/04/2021 11:59

Jesus Christ. What conversation is that Tweet a part of, and what's been the response? I'm afraid to look.

334bu · 11/04/2021 12:02

. It read to me as more of a light bulb moment than anything else.

Well if it was intended to show how even a person of the male sex could be embarrassed buying sanitary products ,then I suppose it succeeded. However, as that was obviously not the intention as, otherwise, any man going into a shop to buy sanitary protection would have done, it is just grossly offensive.

Mayorquimby2 · 11/04/2021 12:08

Presumably because he can't dump period blood on them

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 11/04/2021 12:10

Yes, there does seem to be this idea that 'periods' are about cramps (although what is actually cramping in a male, the mind boggles!), and crying in your PJs as you tuck into a tub of ice cream (which might be what is giving you the shits!)

Meanwhile, in the real world, actual women who talk about 'coming on' or 'getting their period' mean when the bleeding starts. Yes, of course there are lots of symptoms around it but when women say 'oh God I get so irritable when I'm about to come on' they mean when they are about to start bleeding out of their vagina!
