Pregnant people?

Trustisamust · 11/04/2021 03:12

So our local NHS Trust have finally updated their guidance re allowing partners to attend pregnancy scans etc.
They now refer to pregnant people, not pregnant women.
I don't know if I am being unreasonable here but this does not sit comfortably with me?

I'm still waiting to find out what species I'm a female of. Quite fancy being a cat .

ASugarr · 11/04/2021 16:49

@Erkrie

You're not 'repeating yourself' - there are fundamental questions on this thread, and another thread you were on today, that you have completely failed to even attempt to answer.

That's because they can't. Either they can't stretch their thinking that far, or know that if they did, then the flaws in their claims will be exposed. Under these circumstances it's clearly best to run.

Lol what questions? If you can give me any question I haven't yet answered then I'll consider answering it.
DaisiesandButtercups · 11/04/2021 16:49

I suppose anyone who worked for a private gender affirmation clinic might be teaching sex education along the lines of a female is an adult human rather than the type of any mammalian species and any developmental stage which produces large gametes and gives birth to young.
As mentioned by a pp, a ewe, a cow, a mare, a sow, a woman are all female as is a girl child.

I hope that the National Health Service will apply actual evidence based health care, and plain English which the majority of service users understand. Gender ideology is a niche belief, the majority of English speakers whether as a first, second or third language understand that the terms woman and man refer to sex. The vast variety of gender identities are irrelevant to most people and to physical health care. It is important to understand the beliefs of individuals to cater to their needs but we have never before imposed a minority belief on the majority.

Floisme · 11/04/2021 16:49

Oh I don't know, like I've said it's kind of useful to see the attempt to change the meaning of language playing out in real time.

NiceGerbil · 11/04/2021 16:50

Just seen your response to be asugarr saying that people with a disability didn't like being called people with a disability. What all of them?

Bit sweeping isn't it?

You may have missed where I said in my post that I have a disability Hmm

Whatwouldscullydo · 11/04/2021 16:51

Lol what questions? If you can give me any question I haven't yet answered then I'll consider answering it

How would you know how to treat an.unconcious patient they can neither tell your their sex or their gender.

NiceGerbil · 11/04/2021 16:52

'They want to be called disabled people, autistic people. The same applies with trans men and trans women. They want to be known as men and women.'

And this is just ridiculous.

By your own argument it should be trans people.

Confused

By not assuming their sex or gender. If I can find indicators like their medical card or medical report on their phone that helps.
EdgeOfACoin · 11/04/2021 16:53

Lol what questions? If you can give me any question I haven't yet answered then I'll consider answering it.

You can't even talk around the kind of questions you would ask someone to help them figure out their gender identity.

The idea that the questions would be confidential (as opposed to identifying, individual answers) is so beyond the realms of plausibility, I'm amazed you expect anyone to take you seriously.

StealthPolarBear · 11/04/2021 16:54

You wouldnt assume someone's sex from their genitals? Really?

Whatwouldscullydo · 11/04/2021 16:54

They have no ID. They are wearing joggers and a t shirt.

What results do you look at when you run their blood tests?

FrancesGumm · 11/04/2021 16:54

This is indeed all bollocks.
If woman and man are only gender (whatever that means) terms and not sex-based then we would need a new word for adult human female - so it’s clear what we’re talking about. If only there was a simple dictionary definition....

I’m an adult human female - but based on gender definitions I am neither a man or a woman as I don’t have gender-y feelings.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 11/04/2021 16:55

Very telling that these changes to language in the NHS are happening slowly, and starting with women, because men aren't going to take it well. Very telling indeed.

Men. Don't piss off the men, the men won't like it. Can't hurt the men's feelings. Take it easy with the men. If we're going to make changes let's start by railroading over the women! They're only women, they have to be kind, and gentle, and not make a fuss and roll over and just fucking take it because it's only women and what they think doesn't even matter.

Like I said on my earlier post, they know exactly what a woman is really - because it's who they target.

StealthPolarBear · 11/04/2021 16:56

Or (less flippantly) from their presentation in general? The vast majority of people who I'd assume t be women are women and vice versa. Shouldn't we make use of this vast untapped resource of information? This is simply madness.

RedDogsBeg · 11/04/2021 16:56

Whilst you are faffing about the patient dies.

NiceGerbil · 11/04/2021 16:56

'People are aware they have a prostate or cervix. Plus their medical records will state that.'

????!!!!

They don't check newborns to see if they've got a cervix or prostate.

Their records state male or female and whether they have a cervix or not is assumed

Are you suggesting these checks should be done on all babies? Or when a child gets to a certain age?

EdgeOfACoin · 11/04/2021 16:56

Absolutely.
StealthPolarBear · 11/04/2021 16:56

PS if your organisation gets asked by FOI they're going to need to share this info.

Deliriumoftheendless · 11/04/2021 16:58

So anyone reading- lurking- I hope this shows how when (as we probably all have done at some point) we skim read social media posts with pretty flags and avatars giving sound bite posts about “inclusive language” and “science” and nod along because in a handful of characters it all sounds very kind this is the actual bollocks it all leads to.

There’s nothing to back up this waffle, it can’t be substantiated and it relies on “because...” as a reason.

Which is why we are where we are.

Good point. That takes you to ASugarr’s Twitter and blog. Do people still do blogs? I thought that was all a bit last decade.

What percentage of people in the UK carry a medical card, or have a medical report on their (unlocked?) phone? Does the average person in the UK have either of these things?

It would seem so - as I recall, that's the name the poster uses on Twitter.

In which case maybe what they meant to post was, 'I'll leave some further information on the NHS guidelines that I wrote myself'?

ASugarr · 11/04/2021 16:59

@Whatwouldscullydo

They have no ID. They are wearing joggers and a t shirt.

Ask a paramedic.
ASugarr · 11/04/2021 17:00

@EastWestWhosBest

Meaning unless you identify as cisgender, they don't have connections to your biological sex.

But I don’t identify as cisgender.

Okay cool.
