Apparently Rupert Grint respects JKR but still felt he needed to speak out

in support of transgender people when all the other Harry Potter ingrates were piling in.

Daily Mail link

"But yeah, I think also you can have huge respect for someone and still disagree with things like that...

Sometimes silence is even louder. I felt like I had to because I think it was important to. I mean, I don’t want to talk about all that… Generally, I’m not an authority on the subject"

Clearly not.

@EdgeOfACoin

So you can't disagree with somebody just because they wrote the book which meant that you got the job that made you famous.

Of course Grint has the right to disagree with JKR. However, the point is, he doesn't seem to understand what the issues are or what JKR's argument actually is.

I agree with you that it is dangerous to say nobody should disagree with the person who 'made them famous' or whatever, but in this specific situation, he doesn't appear to have even paid her the courtesy of looking into the issues. He just seems to have jumped on a passing bandwagon.

To be fair, none of the three who responded to JKR’s essay knew what they were talking about. Daniel Radcliffe thought she was talking about transwomen and Emma Watson send so unsure she put out a statement that covered just about everyone.

Rupert Grint probably joined in because of FOMO.

Skyliner001 · 21/03/2021 08:53

Thanks @EdgeOfACoin Yes, that's what I was trying to say. 😊

@Justanotherworkingmom

The responses on here are lamentable.

God help that someone has a view that differs from yours.

Funny. That could equally be applied to the TRA,s who abused JK but I don’t see you condemning then.
Juliesipadwillcallyouback · 21/03/2021 09:10

What Grint has now done is truly cowardly. Stayed silent about the threats and abuse she was getting, then came out with a half hearted obligatory TWAW, now says that he 'respects her' and doesn't really understand the issues anyway (so don't press him on any more questions about it OK?)

Juliesipadwillcallyouback · 21/03/2021 09:12

Yes so funny that Julie Burchill could be a 'are we the baddies' moment, but actual rapists, paedophiles, and thousands of threatening and abusive messages are 'the most vulnerable and oppressed'.

Its fascinating to watch this sometimes!

Skyliner001 · 21/03/2021 09:17

Thanks @Clymene I accept your apology 😊

He doesn't appear to have enough brains to form a view.
RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/03/2021 09:22

And I accept your apology skyliner

FamilyOfAliens · 21/03/2021 09:28

@Skyliner001

Thanks *@Clymene* I accept your apology 😊
I don’t think Clymene apologised to you, did she?

Quite. Burchill is, as I understand it, the flavour du jour because of her behaviour on twitter. (We had a thread about it in fwr at the time, but it's been deleted.)

Okay. Now let's consider what else goes on over at twitter. I've literally just this minute seen a twitter TRA (who is themselves trans- ftm or nb? and pops up everywhere) tell a woman that it was "inappropriate" of her to have a miscarriage in a women's toilet and that she's weaponising her trauma when she says it was important to her that it was a female-only space!

MazekeenSmith · 21/03/2021 09:45

@StrangeLookingParasite

Meanwhile, GC "feminist" Julie Burchill is outed as an outright racist and misogynist, and you have people on here defending her and saying she occasional goes a bit far.

You keep trying to insist Julie Burchill is gc. I don't think she is, and I haven't seen her actions characterised on here as 'occasionally going a bit far.

Julie Burchill is definitely GC. She was cancelled years ago for sticking up for Suzanne Moore over the 'Brazilian transsexual' comment. She put loads of money behind the bar for attendees at the biggest Brighton women's place meeting. She co-organised the GC discussion with posie Parker and Meghan Murphy in Brighton. She's definitely GC, I've met her and spoken to her about it. Peep her Twitter and it's obvious.
MazekeenSmith · 21/03/2021 09:47

@SunsetBeetch

And for the umpteenth time:

Julie Burchill is not a GC feminist

But then you know that.

Yeah she is though
Clymene · 21/03/2021 09:50

@Skyliner001

Thanks *@Clymene* I accept your apology 😊
Eh?
Skyliner001 · 21/03/2021 09:54

I was just seeing if you could see my tag, obviously you just choose not to apologise after accusing me of suggesting J. K. Rowling was an abuser.

All the best.

Skyliner001 · 21/03/2021 09:55

Thanks @RufustheSniggeringReindeer I appreciate that 😊

PotholeHellhole · 21/03/2021 09:55

Julie Burchill has made a career of being extremely blunt in print. She's less call a spade a spade and more "it's something you use to dig with, you ignorant knobber". I doubt she's ever told a white lie to protect someone's feelings in her life.

So I'm sure she isn't TWAW and is somewhere under the GC umbrella. But I don't see why I should say the world is flat to avoid having the same opinion in common with Julie Burchill.

Clymene · 21/03/2021 10:15

I apologise when I've made a mistake. I didn't.
Skyliner001 · 21/03/2021 10:16
  • @Skyliner001 - are you accusing JK Rowling of being an abuser? That's a pretty serious allegation to make*

🙄🙄😊

Skyliner001 · 21/03/2021 10:17

😘

Clymene · 21/03/2021 10:26

Your attempts at forced teaming are creeping me out.

PearPickingPorky · 21/03/2021 10:35

I suspect he's now read what she's written and realised he agrees with her.

He really is a snivelling little weasel, though.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/03/2021 10:58

@Skyliner001

Thanks *@RufustheSniggeringReindeer* I appreciate that 😊
Oh good

I also appreciate that

Gosh this is going well...

DIshedUp · 21/03/2021 11:16

He's right you can respect someone and disagree with them. Unfortunately he showed Jk Rowling no respect

RG came out with his statement slightly later than DR didn't he? When the abuse towards JKR was in full swing, he didn't just not condemn the abuse he added fuel to the fire.

Did he actually read JKRs statement? It didn't seem like it, he gave a very basic TWAW statement that didn't address any of the points in JKRs essay, if you are going to come out and publicly disagree with someone in the middle of a tirade of rape and death threats, the least I would expect you to be able to do is read and understand what it is your disagreeing with.

Hes a coward, I doubt he believes one Iota that TWAW, he saw the furore and thought he could get some woke points in to boost his career, whilst simultaneously throwing JKR under the bus. He's never stood up for trans rights before.

teawamutu · 21/03/2021 11:42

Be quite interesting to know if they're being privately advised that, given all the sunlight, the fashionable position may be about to change.

Because I don't believe for a moment this comes from Rupert locating a backbone or sense of decency.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 21/03/2021 11:46

Why did he pipe up now? Did he ever denounce the threats and vitriol?
