in support of transgender people when all the other Harry Potter ingrates were piling in.

Daily Mail link

"But yeah, I think also you can have huge respect for someone and still disagree with things like that...

Sometimes silence is even louder. I felt like I had to because I think it was important to. I mean, I don’t want to talk about all that… Generally, I’m not an authority on the subject"

Clearly not.

Well done Rupert 💚🌈

Thymeto · 20/03/2021 20:21

Exactly it NoToast. Bunch of little ingrates.

FightingTheFoo · 20/03/2021 20:23

Rupert recently welcomed a daughter. I'm sure he'll have no issues, in 13 years time, when she has to share a tent with a biologically male 15 year old at a Guides weekend away, or change in the same room as biological males for PE or change her sanitary towel in the "gender neutral" loos at school or come second to a biological male in the 100m sprint on sports day.

Nice one dad.

LizzieSiddal · 20/03/2021 20:24

What a little shit!

SmokedDuck · 20/03/2021 20:25

It's difficult not to think there is an age element.

Though I also think Coltrane and Fiennes are intelligent men, and the younger set from that film seem kind of average.

Childrenofthestones · 20/03/2021 20:28

I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that it will have been a case of a gotcha question by a reporter but he will have discussed his response previously with his agent knowing full well it would soon happen after Radcliffe had done it.
He admits he know little about the subject and he's no expert
Its called covering his arse by throwing a friend under the bus.

RedDogsBeg · 20/03/2021 20:53

@NoToast

What a stereotype. A young man with no knowledge on a subject doesn't let that hold him back from correcting an older woman.
Quite. An utter coward to boot.
willibald · 20/03/2021 20:56

'Yeah, like, kind of, I'm a total divvy'. That sums up Rupert.

EightiesRobot · 20/03/2021 20:57

Matthew Lewis (Neville) and the Phelps (Weasley) twins also stayed quiet, besides Felton. Obviously I would have preferred they stuck up for JKR but staying silent is definitely the best next option. The privileged trio were absolutely complicit in the nasty, misogynistic abuse JKR has received.

Shizuku · 20/03/2021 21:04

Hilarious how you assume anyone who is pro trans is a horrible person. All he did was stand up for a vulnerable minority and here you are with all the childish name-calling.

Meanwhile, GC "feminist" Julie Burchill is outed as an outright racist and misogynist, and you have people on here defending her and saying she occasional goes a bit far.

I think you all might be due another "are we the baddies?" moment.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 20/03/2021 21:08

People are assuming he is horrible because he threw JKR under a bus without actually knowing what the heck was going on.

That’s why people think he is a git.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 20/03/2021 21:10

I don’t think he’s horrible so much as incredibly stupid, lacking in empathy and completely graceless

ClarrieGrundy · 20/03/2021 21:14

He’s not very bright, is he?

His comments show that he has zero understanding of the situation, and all the previous quotes about loving who you want show that he does not have a clue that this is about sex and gender, not about sexuality.

What a numpty.

As someone pointed out on another thread none of the grown -ups actors or directors threw JKR under the bus. We must remember that.
And although some are clearly very bright and articulate, I’m willing to bet that they don’t all belong to Mensa, but even they saw that it was a craven thing to do to bite the hand that fed them.

Watson has stopped acting and is dating herself (isn’t that just masturbation?). Radcliffe continues to be mediocre and Grint has almost fallen off the showbiz radar.
They are hardly a Brains Trust.

ACovidofWitches · 20/03/2021 21:14

I actually found it gratifying reading the comments after the article. I can't say I've ever found myself agreeing with people there but comment after comment says 'JKR was only speaking sense and I agree with her.'

The majority of people are sensible about this issue.

ClarrieGrundy · 20/03/2021 21:24

Shizuku

I’m pro trans, and I suspect that a lot of people on this board are. I believed that trans folk should be protected by law, free from discrimination, and treated with respect. I will use whatever pronouns people wish and will fight hard for the fair treatment and dignity of all trans people.

That does not stop me thinking that Grint is pathetic, and that he threw JKR under the bus without engaging his tiny brain.

And if I were you, I really would not try to taint GC feminists with people who agree with them. (I’m not sure how GC Burchill is anyway. Are you sure you have not got her mixed up with Julie Bindel? I may be wrong through).

If you are trying the “guilt by association” gambit, I would reconsider as the TRA side has a lot more despicable people batting for it and this tactic only hurts those of us who are keen to ensure trans equality.

Justanotherworkingmom · 20/03/2021 21:26

The responses on here are lamentable.

God help that someone has a view that differs from yours.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 20/03/2021 21:27

What view? He said he didn’t really know... so it wasn’t a view just following some of the herd. No apologies.

Souther · 20/03/2021 21:30

@ArmsClary

Oh look, silly little arsehole has got wind of the Fiennes comment and is cautiously backtracking. Unfortunately he can't act for shit, so all a bit academic.
Fiennes isnt anything special. If he had something to say he should have said it when everyone was piling onto JKR. Not wait a year.
Biscuitsanddoombar · 20/03/2021 21:33

JKR showed Grint nothing but kindness and support as he has said many times in past interviews

That didn’t stop him immediately joining the mob with a pitchfork last year. now he says he doesn’t really know anything about it anyway

So he was happy to join in the witch burning even though he apparently didn’t know why he was joining in with it....

AllDoneIn · 20/03/2021 21:36

He's a prick and I will never look at him the same again. Ditto the other two pricks three if u count the other ginger.

StrangeLookingParasite · 20/03/2021 21:41

Meanwhile, GC "feminist" Julie Burchill is outed as an outright racist and misogynist, and you have people on here defending her and saying she occasional goes a bit far.

You keep trying to insist Julie Burchill is gc. I don't think she is, and I haven't seen her actions characterised on here as 'occasionally going a bit far.

Juliesipadwillcallyouback · 20/03/2021 21:43

Hilarious how you assume anyone who is pro trans is a horrible person. All he did was stand up for a vulnerable minority and here you are with all the childish name-calling.

Actually, it's because he just stood by and watched as JKR was subjected to disgusting sexually and physically violent abuse, as well as death threats, and didn't even have the bollocks to call them out when he finally did 'speak up'.
