Multiple women murdered in Atlanta

I've just come across this:

But the update suggests six Asian women across multiple locations, plus one white woman and a white man. I'm not sure that Asian in the US means the same ethnicity it does here, but regardless, that's women of a particular group targeted. It can't be a coincidence.

This is horrendous.

There have been several mass shootings targeting women in North America that have barely dented the news, in a way you know just wouldn't happen if it were any other group. There was one in a bank a year or two ago, a couple in gym classes, a couple in salons, and one in a plus-size clothes store, deemed a 'robbery gone wrong.' How wrong does a robbery have to go to make you shoot six women execution-style? In what universe is that written off as 'one of those things' and not counted as a hate crime?

The increase in racism and attacks particularly on Asian Americans is dreadful.

So is the increase in misogyny and sex-based attacks. But that aspect is being completely ignored.

I'd love to know what the proportion of Johns in the Atlanta police force is and whether male reluctance to address sex work violence is linked. Male police officers seem to treat sex workers as either utterly irrelevant and disposable or contemptuous.

It does seem likely that these poor women were the victims of both rampant misogyny and poisonous racism. Agree about hate crime.

Yes, I have seen quite a lot about the rise in hate crime against Asian people in America. Lots of people speaking out about it on social media

Sex workers are used as a way to abuse (and murder) women with the knowledge that there are even fewer consequences than there would otherwise be.

Yes, the MMIW issue seems to be enormous, in the US and Canada. In the US there seem to be a lot of problems with the criminal men falling between jurisdictions, so justice is lacking to put it mildly.

I was thinking that too MrsPrachett when black men are killed by the police for sitting in their own car, a white man can commit pre meditated, cold blooded mass murder and get treated with pity by the police. And yes the many black brown and indigenous American women who go missing every year and nothing is done about it. It disgusts me.
