This Morning is promoting a programme about The Blitz Club.

When gender bending was all the rage and very 'Pop'.

When people understood female and Male AND gender bending.

The TRAs are going to hate it. Or not understand it. The young TRAs will have their eyes opened to who the older (to them) LGB/GC people are.

Get ready for the narc' rage.

Do you know when it's going to be on? I'd like to watch it with my DD.

PurpleHoodie · 12/03/2021 11:35

They said it'll be on Sky.

I'm not really sure exactly what your point is ?

Are you seriously comparing the New Romantic fashion trend with Transgender people ? Or am I missing something?

PurpleHoodie · 12/03/2021 11:38

I no longer have Sky, but hopefully someone will be along shortly with a programme list update. Happy viewing. Am going to ask someone for a share.

I remember the thrill of getting the Human League album "Dare", the cover of which is all the band members (male and female) wearing strong makeup. Not clownish just beautifully done. And Phil Oakey on Top of the Pops with a Veronica Lake haircut, makeup, a net blouse and a pair of jeans.
Because it looked cool and who gives a shit what "gender " he is because he was obviously a biological male in cool clothes.

PurpleHoodie · 12/03/2021 11:45

Yes Bellini. That's it, isn't it.

This is no problem at all for the trans community. Many were part of it because it gave them an arena in which to express their identity.

And it's still around now - there's no shortage of femboys and young men who wear feminine clothes. When I am home in Osaka, we are surrounded by men in pop bands wearing make-up and dresses. It's lovely.

Gender expression and gender identity are 2 different things.

partystress · 12/03/2021 11:48

Could you explain them please @Shizuku?

PurpleHoodie · 12/03/2021 11:49

Transsexual, or Transgender Shizuku?

Bearing in mind the latter call (and treat) the former as Scum.

Anyway.

There is going to be a re-emergence of 70s/80s culture. We are already seeing it in the music videos, and movies of the past 2-3 years.

Without the many of the lesphobic/homophobic hang ups.

(The TRAs will still have those)

And my regular Spotify playlist is David Bowie stuff. Giving me glorious photos of Bowie album covers where he wore whatever the fuck he liked including makeup because it looked amazing and unnerved parents. No ridiculous "I have boob envy" shit [looking at you , Izzard, you knob head]

Deliriumoftheendless · 12/03/2021 12:35

Do you know what the program is called OP? The Blitz Kids looked amazing, I was a bit too young and wrong part of the country, but I’m still fascinated by them.

Shizuku · 12/03/2021 12:41

@partystress

Could you explain them please *@Shizuku*?
Look them up.

They would certainly be included under the Stonewall definition of trans, so very definitely yes.

For all of those that asked.

Not according to Stonewall and other organisations who provide guidance on trans rights in the U.K. The situation may be different elsewhere but this is primarily a U.K. based site.
merrymouse · 12/03/2021 13:39

And it's still around now - there's no shortage of femboys and young men who wear feminine clothes.

1980s culture challenged the idea that some clothes are masculine and some feminine. Perhaps you could learn something from the programme.

TheUnwindingCableCar · 12/03/2021 13:55

Considering how much some people hate the whole trans situation it might be helpful to not refer to people has genderbenders and femboys just because they don't wear stereotypically male clothes.

My son likes to wear a dress now and then. He knows he's a boy, he just likes the look and feel of wearing a dress. He's comfortable in his gender because we've brought him up to know being male doesn't mean he has to fit into a box.

Call him a femboy or a genderbender and he might start to think he's a girl.

Nowayhozay · 12/03/2021 13:57

Could you share a link to clarify that please.

I find it hard to believe that New Romantics as a fashion movement come under the trans umbrella.

PurpleHoodie · 12/03/2021 13:59

Bellini.

I think you'd really like peeking in on Mr Marilyn's, and also James Dreyfus's Twitter feeds (you don't need an account) Glitterball

Sorry that was in reply to @merrymouse
bellinisurge · 12/03/2021 14:00

Thanks. I already follow James Dreyfus but I will look at the other one

Thelnebriati · 12/03/2021 14:02

The young TRAs will have their eyes opened to who the older (to them) LGB/GC people are.

If the reaction to JKR is anything to go by, I doubt if they'll watch it if they're told not to.

334bu · 12/03/2021 14:07

Well they would all be covered by the new Hate Crime Scotland Bill. Shout abuse at a New Romantic Man and you'll get lifted by the Police. Shout abuse at a woman....nothing.!
