Superstraight is trending on twitter. No I hadn't either.

Its a subcategory of straight that means that straight people can now be included in the lgbtqi+ categories. Or something. Hooray! Fight for my superstraight rights too Stonewall!. Or something

I work with teens and I can confirm (but only anecdotally) that there is a significant number who are tired of this and not impressed by not being able to say so. A few have confided in me about this. If people do constantly talk over others and correct them frequently people will rebel. Especially teenagers.

@nauticant

Looking at this and some of the recent discussions on Reddit, I'm wondering whether Gen Z just aren't on board with all this identity stuff like the Millennials. Maybe Gen Z are seeing this at first hand with identity obsessions raging through their cohorts and don't feel they need to show it the demanded level of respect, although will play the game to some degree.
I meant to quote this in the above post headslap

Yes. And I didn't even realise I was doing it, then I saw this and thought 'oh I'm doing that right now' Grin

Love this thread. Just ordered a purple wig. I am certain I've seen those guys doing skits on the trans agenda before but I can't remember where I've seen them.

Toughie

Thanks for the "purple wig" link.
I think the insurgency may have started.

Aha85 · 06/03/2021 12:27

Some TRAs believe that controlling the language and redefining certain words will change people's perception of reality and behaviour.

But it's not really possible to change people's sexuality just like that, and this just shows that if forced to we'll create new words to describe the reality that we all can perceive 🤷‍♀️

Scales are tipping. I think using the same tactics is very effective at shedding light, any dissenting voices are ‘superphobic’.

OvaHere · 06/03/2021 12:54

I guess this is what happens when you try this on with straight men. I feel like it's not a coincidence that the flag colours are also the colours of PornHub. A bit like the porn subreddits that are allowed to state 'bio women only' when nobody else on that site can do that without being banned.

The arguments going on in that hashtag are funny though. It's turned into a whole we can co-opt language too and so many anime twitter accounts are mad about it.

🤣
SansaClegane · 06/03/2021 13:01

Just saw a comment that made me think...
"You can see the patriarchy is alive as this is doing more than TERFs ever did"

  • and the sad thing is I think it's true?! When women speak we're just "terfs" and branded hysterical / right wing / out-dated; but now there's backlash from men and people listen Sad
Don't get me wrong I think it's still great to have superstraight trending. It's on Twitter, FB, YouTube and (most importantly?) TikTok, meaning it reaches the younger demographic and hopefully makes some of them think about this whole gender ideology.

Exactly this. Once you know how the 'rules' of identity politics work, it's very easy (and amusing) to use them in this way to make a point.

Whatthechicken · 06/03/2021 13:42

Since I saw this thread I’ve been thinking of Magdalen and what she said on this: ‘dating is a discriminatory process, people are allowed to sexually reject anyone for any reason they want without being coercively guilt tripped for it’.

I hope more people (especially young adults) feel empowered to have their own boundaries.

bouncychair · 06/03/2021 13:43

Superstraight rights are human rights Grin

Strikemepink · 06/03/2021 13:44

Been seeing this for a while.

Gender dysphoria is, of course, always going to exist but the trans/anime/100 gender thing is starting to look uncool.

It's too dependent on other people. Outliers, rebels, your David Bowies, are cool because they seem like fearless individuals. A movement of rebels which demands that they must be validated by other people at all times or they will be forced to harm themselves is a massive contradiction.

MichelleofzeResistance · 06/03/2021 13:59

It's always the way when what was the cool rebel anti establishment movement becomes in itself the establishment. And the next generation then rebel against it as their establishment.
