Superstraight is trending on twitter. No I hadn't either.

Its a subcategory of straight that means that straight people can now be included in the lgbtqi+ categories. Or something. Hooray! Fight for my superstraight rights too Stonewall!. Or something

And of course, no analysis of gender, sex and sexuality would be complete without a quick round of Pin the Nazis on the Feminists.

Next up, Bobbing for Witches!*

@Ereshkigalangcleg

Are we back to "Hitler also thought water is wet?"
It’s so very tiresome isn’t it.
twelly · 07/03/2021 15:43

Straight people aren't oppressed from being straight but they have oppressed from stating that they might have a strong view which does not fit the current narrative. That is not freedom of expression ,imagine we said to certain religious groups that they could not promote their own religion as the only one which is what a number of religions do. Free speech is at stack, plus the fact we have children and young people who are so confused. There majority is the majority and therefore the norm is the norm - of course everyone should be tolerant but there is a difference between being tolerant of a minority and promoting it

@nauticant

I can't find a mention of it on twitter before 1 March

You could have looked on this very thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/a4184352-Superstraight?msgid=105332755

Or you could have looked on twitter, see this from the end of February and a week before the 4Chan screenshots that are being circulated:

twitter.com/Randomnibba5/status/1366155714843062274

I suspect you didn't want to find something that would disrupt your narrative that somehow 4Chan are behind the #superstraight hashtag.

Ok fair enough you got me, that tweet was posted an hour before the 1 March.

I'm not denying it began on tiktok with some misogynist (check out his other videos) kid, but it was then picked up by the alt/far right who began spamming it across social media resulting in it trending yesterday. If you're interested in why they did this check the attached pic or look here: tinyurl.com/y9w78oaq

Just drop the 4Chan guilt by association shit. You're embarrassing yourself.

This thread, like many others, has not been your finest hour jj1968.

It's not about guilt by association, it's about what happened. Some kid made a video, 4chan and other alt right sources spread it and made it go viral.

And so straight people are just as oppressed as LGB people and should be included in the acronym. Straight pride is go. Dear me.

How are super bi people different from bi people incidentally? Does it just mean won't fuck trans people?

Finally!

(Let me guess, its transphobic to no want to have sex with a trans person 🥱)

How on earth to you get to that. If super bi means won't fuck trans people then that is a sexuality purely based on gender surely? I think it's interesting that people would celebrate that, whilst simultaneously insisting such a thing could never exist.
Sophoclesthefox · 07/03/2021 15:59

@Ereshkigalangcleg

Why would FWR have any interest in what 4Chan thinks? Why is it relevant in any way expect to smear feminists by association? We are mostly standing on the sidelines of this, but support the right of people to be exclusively same or opposite sex attracted.
I know, right?

I spend exactly zero effort and energy tracking what 4chan thinks or keeping up with what’s all the rage in the alt-right. Zero. None. Nada. Couldn’t tell you who the players are, couldn’t tell you what the in-jokes are, couldnt tell you anything much about either group.

Weirdly enough, this is entirely consistent with my stated position of being primarily concerned with the rights of women and girls.

Hanging about in places where you think everyone is hateful is an odd hobby.

nauticant · 07/03/2021 15:59

The annoying thing about the alt-right slurs is that this imposes a narrative on top of the reality of what's happened. The tiktok video went viral because it spoke to a wider variety of different groups who recognised in it some unfairness they were already aware of. Fundamentally that people wanting to adhere to their own sexual orientation were, because of this, being accused of transphobia. Added to that, many of them were able to see that arguing against such an accusation was likely to lead to a social media punishment beating which made the unfairness even worse.

Some one spoke up. In this case it doesn't matter who. Many people took the message, fitted it into the unfairness they were seeing, and it went viral and now there's an ad hoc coalition (where the disparate groups are barely even communicating with each other) where people are feeling reassured that, amazingly, this unfairness is widely recognised, even by others that they would struggle to get along with. As a result there's now an umbrella under which people can push back against the unfairness for once not feeling isolated and powerless.

Then we get told that it's being orchestrated by the alt-right. Which is frankly insulting and gaslighty.

Bordois · 07/03/2021 16:00

Nope try again jj.

RozWatching · 07/03/2021 16:01

How are super bi people different from bi people incidentally? Does it just mean won't fuck trans people?

Guess so, and what's wrong with that?
There are 'transbians' who don't fancy other 'transbians'.

PurpleHoodie · 07/03/2021 16:02

Talking about protecting sexuality rights for people in the UK.

This thread is informative:

PotholeParadies · 07/03/2021 16:07

This is reminiscent of when someone brought up a fruit farm based in the antipodes. I'm not sure I'd ever heard of it before then, but I'd certainly never visited it, so I was astounded that MNers were being held responsible for the level of discourse on it!

So essentially it's a sexuality based on gender conformity, unlike superstraight men who presumably find trans men attractive. Probably need hiving off into it's own group as well then.

Dear me indeed. This is not about relative levels of oppression, it's about everyone having a way of defining themselves, regardless of their sexual orientation. As far as inclusion goes, it seems to be the most inclusive approach I've seen so far.

jj1968 · 07/03/2021 16:13

The tiktok video went viral on the 6th March, the day after far right websites began "spamming this shit all over". Given we know these groups have considerable reach on social media it seems likely the two things were connected.

RozWatching · 07/03/2021 16:13

What, superbi? Of course not, because not all non-trans people are gender-conforming.

You're funny, jj Wink

jj1968 · 07/03/2021 16:15

But LGBT solidarity, and indeed the term itself, was a recognition of a shared oppression. To include straight people in that, whether you drop the T or not, erases that oppression.

twelly · 07/03/2021 16:15

I think you are right regarding the far right, this might have been started by the far right but many people have similar views. I feel that the majority feel silenced, traditional gender views are allowed this is a free country
