Superstraight is trending on twitter. No I hadn't either.

Its a subcategory of straight that means that straight people can now be included in the lgbtqi+ categories. Or something. Hooray! Fight for my superstraight rights too Stonewall!. Or something

What about a cloak? Always felt I could rock a cloak.

Well said! I just saw this image on FB which might clarify things for those who still don't get it.

See I like that but I hate it too

Straight used to be that. Straight.

Same to gay.

It sucks we have to come out with a new term just so that straight remains straight and gay remains gay

Having discussed this with DH he is confused. He is attracted to women and trans women. He is not attracted to men or trans men. He’s the sort of chap who wears socks and sandals, and likes a good woolly cardigan. Where does he fit into these categories?

I’ve always known this btw.

He’s not super straight, but I wouldn’t have said he was straight either? But maybe he is? How does DH complete the census now?

Soubriquet · 07/03/2021 09:42

He would be straight Fucket because he likes women and trans women

If he only liked women he would be super straight

I would say he is 'straight', according to the laws of gender orthodoxy. But not superstraight. Check the diagram for clarity.

Predictably David Paisley has got involved:

twitter.com/DavidPaisley/status/1368376204525510666

claiming "It's a far right troll campaign from 4Chan to get you to associate with Nazism." Using the forensic skills he fames himself for, he includes a number of screenshots of nastiness dated 6 and 7 March. His followers are lapping this up without troubling themselves with critical thought.

The problem is that 4Chan were late to the party. The original video went up in February and from the end of February #superstraight was gaining momentum on tiktok and twitter:

twitter.com/Randomnibba5/status/1366155714843062274

with the r/SuperStraight reddit sub going up on 1 March 2021, and from then on there was a superspreading event when everyone else joined in including 4Chan.

It turns out that David Paisley is spreading (probably not superspreading) disinformation to paint GC people as being aligned with Nazis. I'd imagine you're all as surprised as I was by this.

I'm proud to be superbi. All supersexuals are valid. Stop supershaming!

Fucket · 07/03/2021 09:50

there must be an awful lot of straight men in the maritime professions. I’m pretty sure there are a fair few men who fall into this category. it’s a long time at sea and sometimes that does funny things to a bloke. DH’s words not mine.

accessorizequeen · 07/03/2021 09:53

I am so relieved to see this pushback against dating preferences for everyone. How did such a small group of people have the power to say that single sex attraction is wrong? Or that genitals don’t matter and if we have a preference we are transphobic? TRAs have been trying to redefine heterosexual, lesbian and gay for some time. It’s immensely satisfying to see the super movement pushing back on that big-time.

Aha85 · 07/03/2021 10:00

Or that genitals don’t matter and if we have a preference we are transphobic?

And of the few TRAs who say having a "genital preference" isn't transphobic, it's mostly because they don't understand that people have actual sexual orientations and expect it to be a Coca Cola/Pepsi-style "preference" - ie "I prefer vaginas. You only have a cock? Oh I guess that's fine then. I'd like your cock please."

WoolOfBat · 07/03/2021 10:03

Why was I deleted? I only said that it was awful to invalidate anyone’s sexuality and that all orientations are valid.

It is very hurtful to people’s feelings if their orientations and invalidated.

Nobody should be a bigot.

And superstraights, superlesbians, supergays and superbis are valid.

rabbitwoman · 07/03/2021 10:04

Well... I have a theory for this answer but I won’t post because it will likely be deleted
Beamur · 07/03/2021 10:05

Whilst presumably this started as a bit of a joke, it does make some sense. Instead of arguing over the definition of 'straight' 'bi' etc, we have a new term which is both gender and sex specific.
Sexual preferences are fundamentally about personal choice and orientation. I have only ever been attracted to people of the opposite sex to me and within that have a very narrow preference. I don't feel remotely bad about the 100% of women who fall outside of that or the 99% of men. I doubt it keeps them awake at night either.

HPFA · 07/03/2021 10:08

It's absolutely fascinating to watch how this has evolved.

1.It's been possible to pick up for a while that younger people were getting tired of what you might call "animetrans". There's a big difference between being trans and just getting on with your life and making up some nonsensical gender and forcing everyone to use some weird pronoun. I suspect that many trans people are also secretly tired of a lot of this. It's no easier for a trans person to use "Kitty" as a pronoun than for anyone else.

  1. The "anyone who says they are X is X" has been a disaster. When gay people were fighting for their rights during the 90s and 00s their representative organisations made sure to completely disassociate themselves from the MAPs and other weirdos. They were still there but the mainstream gay movement could demonstrate that they'd done everything they could to separate themselves. It's obviously harder to gatekeep in the social media age. But the main organisations representing trans people have done nothing to separate themselves from the harassers and predators piggybacking the trans rights movement because they've lashed themselves to this "anyone is who they say they are" line.

  2. Superstraight Reddit has attracted a few people who are genuinely trans/homophobic and hopefully the mods will cut those out. But anyone who looks at it with an unbiased eye can see there's genuine anger there. Are all those lesbians talking about the harassment they're received lying? Again the organisations representing trans should be looking at this and getting worried about the predators piggybacking on their mantras. But they won't because they can't let go of their mindset that "anyone who says they're X is X"

Seriously if the people who monitor these threads are reading this just STOP for one second before trotting out your "Nazis, far-right, transphobes, most oppressed" line and think "Is this really working for the interests of trans people? Maybe we should at least reflect a bit."

Some hope.

I hate it too Soubriquet; I'm sure we all do, since it means abandoning what used to be clear language that everyone understands. But those words have been usurped, which means we have to abandon them.
That said, I quite like the "super" prefix.

Strikemepink · 07/03/2021 10:11

Even after sleep, the pronouns of roly/poly make me laugh. Probably my favourite from yesterday.

Strikemepink · 07/03/2021 10:12

I wonder whether “I’m a super woman and only recognise biological women as women” would get me anywhere.

Liquorishtoffee · 07/03/2021 10:15

Now all I can think of is a good old fashioned jam roly poly (like I used to make with my grandma - who I think I will remember here in here tomorrow for IWD - when I was tiny) and you lot have made me need to make one this afternoon now (DS sends his thanks).

WoolOfBat · 07/03/2021 10:16

Strike, I think that would be wrong. I think the theory is that all women are women and biological women are super women.

Obviously all single sex protection needs to incorporate only super women due to the fact that it is drafted for biological differences.

I also like the fact that up to now it was always the TRAs who came up with new words (cis, cishet etc) and deinfitions, who dictated what to call us and define us. Now we (well, the original tiktok boy) have created and accepted a new words to define OURSELVES.
TheChampagneGalop · 07/03/2021 10:20

WoolOfBat Deletions can feel quite random on FWR sometimes. Lots of people lurking and reporting apperantly.

The demand that others must want to sleep with them or else they're phobic is unique to the extreme part of the trans rights movement, and unacceptable.
Homosexuals never demanded that straight people sleep with them or else they would be homophobic. No one should feel forced into dating and sex with someone they otherwise wouldn't be interested in. Glad to see actual, humorous LGBS solidarity about this now.
