Its a subcategory of straight that means that straight people can now be included in the lgbtqi+ categories. Or something. Hooray! Fight for my superstraight rights too Stonewall!. Or something

I have to agree with the tweet that says "I don't agree with the superstraight thing" but threats are never OK.

Christ, glad I don't have all that in my friends list, sounds dramatic!

Its quite odd. My list tends to miss all memes or trends and such. This one has blown up massively. It might be because a hell of a lot of my friends are gay though. Theres been a LOT more 'I am supergay' than anything else. I am guesing these people have felt unable to say anything for a while, and have basically, grabbed the chance of saying it sort of 'lighthearted' now that its there.

Superstraights are totally pushing this as far as it will go!

Let's drop all the homophobic bs and just have LGB again. That's the bit that's about same sex attraction. Anyone remember that? Guess what, it's still a thing. I'm still a lesbian. An actual real lesbian who has always been female and is sexually attracted to other women. Women who have always been female. There are lots of women (approx 50% of the population). It's good to remember that sometimes. It good to use the words 'woman' and 'lesbian' and remember what they mean.

DH picked up on the Superstraight thing earlier and I didn't really get it. I am not quite straight enough to call myself Superstraight lol. Until he said there was Supergay and Superlesbian and that they basically mean e.g. lesbians who won't date trans women. So I was like, you mean having a genital preference? That's fine! I'm on board with that, but why is it always us who need new names (Cis?!) FFS.

To your question "Where does that leave the lesbians?", here's the answer: when I came out 25 years ago, Brighton's lesbian bars and nights welcomed me with open arms and I found friends and potential partners. The fun we had. Today? I can't think of one lesbian bar in town. The trans flag is everywhere and it's very clear that if you don't sing the TWAW mantra, you are very unwelcome. I went to one lesbian live music event in 2019 and the main act was a TW. I'm very thankful that I am in a loving long-term relationship and too knackered most of the time to want to go out, but I feel for young lesbians who will never know the joy of a bar or a club packed with women.
