Superstraight is trending on twitter. No I hadn't either.

Its a subcategory of straight that means that straight people can now be included in the lgbtqi+ categories. Or something. Hooray! Fight for my superstraight rights too Stonewall!. Or something

@nauticant

Not explicitly directed against straight males though. This is different.
I think cishetmen are exclusively male? I find it hard to keep up with their bonkosity sometimes.

Date whoever you want, no skin off my back. Just stop insisting that lesbians can't be attracted to trans women and straight women can't be attracted to trans men.

People can call themselves what they like but if a woman is attracted to someone else who was not born a woman, then, according to the historical and legally accepted definition (EA 2010), they are not a lesbian.

I am not saying this to upset the women who are attracted to transwomen (I have no feelings about who is attracted to whom) but words have meanings and meanings are important (especially when it comes to whether it is a legally defined protected characteristic or not).

I'm also enjoying that on one side there's good humour with compliments on the anime art being put up, and on the other side there's bitterness, anger, and threats.

Are you honestly so daft that you think the LAW dictates what makes someone a lesbian?

Leave other people's sexuality alone, especially if you insist that others are trying to change YOUR sexuality when you, yourself, are trying to claim that lesbians aren't lesbians because they don't exclude trans women from their dating pool.

Oh the irony...

I hope we don’t have bigots here?

Superlesbians are valid. I think that it is awful if Superphobic people are trying invalidate their identity.

Be better.

Datun · 06/03/2021 20:59

Well yes it does actually. That's why homosexuality is a protected characteristic, under equality law.

Do you honestly think that sexual orientation, based on anatomical sex, isn't something that exists and it's to be respected?

Evarish · 06/03/2021 21:06

Oh the irony...

There is no irony.

The transphobia in relationships debate is similar to that of fatphobia and every other type of discrimination. Fat people are discriminated against in terms of relationships, seen as 'undesirables only to be loved by chasers'. Discussing how fat people are people deserving of love and affection and yes, sexual relationships, isn't forcing people to have sex with every fat person they run into.

It's a discussion about how inherently discriminatory the common status quo is. And the exact same goes for transphobia, though you've not even progressed to the point of acknowledging trans men as men, non-binary people as non-binary and trans women as women (the root of majority transphobic acts).

LezJustBeHonest · 06/03/2021 21:06

I bloody love that this is trending! The only sad thing is its taken this to get people to wake up to what’s been happening to lesbians for a long time.

Signed

Everyone is of course free to fancy whoever they choose and label themselves how they choose. But not to try and insist that people who choose to name themselves as homosexual are wrong for doing so and must accept pressure towards heterosexuality in order to confirm other people's identities.

Respect of people's self definition and sexualities is a two way street.

This is reminding me of an amazing time on the Metro letters page in Scotland circa 2008 when parodies of the Killer's line 'I got soul but I'm not a soldier' started appearing- 'I like hummus but I'm not hummus sexual' still makes me giggle!

No please don’t stop, Talking. Carry on. That’s a request from a superlesbian.

Spidder · 06/03/2021 21:32

But isn't choosing a partner discriminatory anyway? I fancy men. I fancy men who are around my height and fairly broad. I think I actually fancy a male version of me Hmm But if I fancy someone, I very quickly imagine having sex with that person. Penis and vagina sex. I have dumped perfectly good men because of penis size or inadequate use thereof. On that basis, a tm is going to be off my dating list. Just like skinny men or flabby men. Just like I'm going to be off a lot of people's lists.
