Superstraight is trending on twitter. No I hadn't either.

Its a subcategory of straight that means that straight people can now be included in the lgbtqi+ categories. Or something. Hooray! Fight for my superstraight rights too Stonewall!. Or something

Can I just point out that there should be a gap between 'super' and 'straight', 'gay' or 'lesbian'.

We are part of the straight community just like anyone else. Just like there's short straight, black straight, blonde straight, there's super straight.

To write it as Superstraight is straightphobic.

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 06/03/2021 19:48

Evarish, if you deny the validity of lesbians’ sexual orientation as exclusively same sex attracted, and straight women’s as exclusively opposite sex attracted, that makes you both a homophobe and a heterophobe, im my book. Not to mention a misogynist.

Refusing to respect people’s sexual boundaries and sexual autonomy is promoting rape culture. Don’t.

nauticant · 06/03/2021 19:51

The main takeaway from this meme-tastic event is that some identities are valid and must be celebrated while some other identities are not valid.

Until today, the not valid identities were usually those held by women. But today, the trans activists are seeking to invalidate an identity which is also held by men.

This would seem to be relevant: Never interrupt your enemy while they is making a mistake.

Evarish · 06/03/2021 19:52
@Evarish but they all have their own labels already, why the need to add “queer” to the mix when they’re already covered?
I'm not entirely familiar with the queer term, as I've just started acknowledging myself as a part of it, but it's a reclaimed slur and umbrella term for people who experience similar struggles and experiences, and can be meant to decentralize the straight cis norm (mostly the nuclear family of one cis man, one cis woman, one or more children, as far as I know).

It gives space both to a community (in the way that it's often synonymous with, or similar to, the LGBTQ+ community), and to

 • people who aren't sure which group they're a part of (questioning or exploring),
 • who have no desire to indicate a group, just that they aren't cis and/or straight, or
 • for those who labels aren't neccessarily accurate (such as someone attracted to women and non-binary people, but not men, who doesn't feel bisexual fits for them).

Date whoever you want, no skin off my back. Just stop insisting that lesbians can't be attracted to trans women and straight women can't be attracted to trans men.

Really disgusting for you to drag rape culture into this as a tool to bludgeon me with, though.

@McDuffy

Enjoyed this one
I'm usually quite upset w/ the patriarchy, but on this one, they done well.
Sittingonabench · 06/03/2021 20:09

I’ve just visited Twitter and I was really shocked at the hate on there! Scary from a lot of angles definitely hate towards “cishet” people but I have to say saw quite a bit of homophobia as well. The thing that struck me was that lots of the most vocal and angry people really seem damaged and are not talking about this from a point of reducing hate or transphobia, many seem proud of being “heterophobic”. Really made me quite sad. There was some good and reasoned discussion from people on both sides but it was hard to find

Sittingonabench · 06/03/2021 20:09

I’m not on Twitter though so all that was new to me

Lisz · 06/03/2021 20:11

I saw James Dreyfus explaining that this had all been 'satire' and then elaborating that it was against X group but specifically not Y group and so on and so on. He seemed rather to be tying himself in knots explaining it all. Is that funny? It didn't.. seem funny, although much funnier than Linehan in facepaint, i grant you.

ListeningQuietly · 06/03/2021 20:15

If a divorced woman is looking for a new husband
is it transphobic that she expects her dates to actually be male ?

nauticant · 06/03/2021 20:16

This continues to delight. The trans activists are failing to see what's happening. Normally when they aren't getting their way, they look across at a bunch of non-compliant women and resort to the usual gaslighting, abuse, and threats.

Following that template, in response to #superstraight there are loads of trans activists declaring stuff like this:

twitter.com/tarohamtaros/status/1368289405660655617

Today, possibly for one day only, the rules are different. The people they're attempting to gaslight include teenage boys and men. Telling them they're being transphobic because they wouldn't accept transwomen as potential sexual partners is a fantastic blunder.

We're taking about SuperLesbians actually.

Attracts to biological anatomy. Which would exclude those who don't share it.

Jeez.

Didn't talk about 'Super Lesbians'. Do what you want.

This is quite funny. Taking the piss out of corporate virtue signalling.

Don't, but do?

I'm talking about an identity which is based on physical anatomy. Which I absolutely share.

Don't tell me what to call it.

Oh, I'm sorry Evarish I thought you said 'don't' not 'didn't'.

And thank you for respecting my identity.

Seems to me that the Emperor is throwing a hissy fit because the people are now pointing and laughing at his his lack of clothes.

nauticant · 06/03/2021 20:26

Other responses by trans activists against #superstraight include declarations of hating straight people and wanting them to die, and posting unsavoury photos. This is not an intelligent way to present a persuasive case to the "new" audience of straight teenage boys and men.

McDuffy · 06/03/2021 20:30

And posting about their art.

They've been doing that for years on twitter. Normally with varying combinations of "cis", "het", "white" and "men".

That's quite... something.
nauticant · 06/03/2021 20:34

Not explicitly directed against straight males though. This is different.
