The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/a4164702-Bunbury-s-Eighth-Sealion-training-for-beginners?msgid=105201850#105201850

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

This thread will be taking a leisurely stroll through the foothills of community disruption, noting the behaviour of wildlife and interesting flora and fauna en route.

SO many tourists and none of them are bringing any decent baked goods with them.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 04/03/2021 09:57

No one on this thread wittering on endlessly about who & how very very special they are?
Excellent I shall pass the biscuits round

drspouse · 04/03/2021 09:58

I wonder if I still have that half jar of malt extract in the cupboard and, if so, whether it's still in date?

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 04/03/2021 09:59

I don't usually join the Bunbury threads but my goodness there are a lot of innocently earnest threads on FWR this morning.
Do I need to declare my opinion on weetabix combinations now? (They're all wrong if anyone is wondering. Weetabix is meh)

DialSquare · 04/03/2021 10:00

Well there's certainly a screenshot on that thread that will not go down at all well on Twitter and it hasn't come from any of us.

WarOnWomen · 04/03/2021 10:01

@ErrolTheDragon

Cadbury’s dark milk with almonds sounds lush

Is it like the green&blacks almond one? That's good too. The Aldi own brand, moser Roth does excellent nutty chocolate too.
Cadbury's Whole nut however... last time I had one, it failed to live up to the classic advert of 'a hazelnut in every bite'. Poor show.

I'm so glad we're not talking about malt loaves anymore as I'm gluten free and I really wanted a Soreen.

Nuts I can get into. I like Just Brazils. Ferrero Rocher. I got given Lindt chocolate with 34% hazelnuts. You should maybe try that, no disappointment. Nom. Nom.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 04/03/2021 10:04

If you wanted to try it, buckwheat flour in a mix with Thai white rice flour works brilliantly and some people prefer it to the normal flour.

Daca · 04/03/2021 10:06

I baked a nut cake recently using a recipe which was an adaptation of a lemon drizzle cake. Just replace 100g of flower with ground nuts (leftover from Christmas) and some chopped chocolate, and leave out the lemon. Added rum flavour, too - really good.

@Gcnq

Just why... On... Earth.... Would anyone allow a Tweet inviting a load of TRAs to come and chat on Mumsnet Feminist chat board? Just... Why? Who let that go up?
I'm not sure, but the net effect is probably a lot of unintended 'devils advocacy'. It's perhaps quite like the MNHQ attitude to some idiotic covid threads - leave them up for us to science the shit out of them.

Sounds good but expensive.

BlackWaveComing · 04/03/2021 10:09

Just on Weetbix, I'd been eating them for 49 years - not mushy, I'm not a monster - with cold milk and brown sugar. Sometimes a handful of blueberries.
The one day I took a bite, realised I was eating basically a non-food, just carby brown paste, and haven't touched them in the past year.
So redemption is always possible.

PotholeParadies · 04/03/2021 10:11

I've got some cinnamon Weetabix on the cupboard. It's been there for over a year.

Daca · 04/03/2021 10:11

Oh, I didn't know about that tweet invite. FGS!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/03/2021 10:13

So an OP on a thread says that MNHQ now allows the three-letter word starting with C that has a basis in chemistry. Is this true?

BaronessWrongCrowd · 04/03/2021 10:15

Apparently as long as it is used in a constructive manner, Yet.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 04/03/2021 10:16

My god. I didn't even know that was a thing. Cinnamon can go on pancakes if we're talking breakfast foods. Anything else is suspicious.
PotholeParadies · 04/03/2021 10:17

I'll go on the record to say that if you call me that, it won't be constructive. Wink

CannotOperateOnThisFailure · 04/03/2021 10:18

On the plus side, avoiding MN means I now have a batch of Miranda Gardiner's condensed milk flapjacks baking in the oven. I've added 3 apples that were on the turn so it's almost one of my 5 a day. So much more civilised than malt loaf, so less likely to glue your teeth together.

BlackWaveComing · 04/03/2021 10:19

I thought cs was banned to balance out the banning of trans-identified male ?So is TM ok now too?

ErrolTheDragon · 04/03/2021 10:24

@YetAnotherSpartacus

The guidelines are unchanged. It's allowed if it's part of 'civil debate'. We can discuss it's meaning and dubious etymology for sure.

Likewise, many feminists are affronted by the term ‘cis’ and ‘terf’, so using these terms will make civil debate less likely. As we’ve said, context is everything – but it’s likely that going forward our moderation team will delete these expressions.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/03/2021 10:27

So how can we use terms that are banned for us in 'civil debate' then? What counts as 'civil debate'? Is this about the penis of objectivity again?

ErrolTheDragon · 04/03/2021 10:30

@YetAnotherSpartacus

Yes, I was wondering about that too. Which terms can or can't even be mentioned? Which are, or aren't, seen as equivalent to racial epithets that can't even be talked about?
Thecatonthemat · 04/03/2021 10:31

Too many deletions and strike these days. Missed most of the storm but well done those who managed reasonable arguments in the face of complete nonsense. Retreating with any cake at all seems a good option for a few days.

MaudTheInvincible · 04/03/2021 10:35

I do like the way they've all descended on us since MN issued the invitation though. As if they were all just politely waiting to be asked to come in before like vampires. Interesting in the implication that their confidence in their activism wasn't strong enough that they felt they could post here before.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/03/2021 10:35

The preceding sentence of the guidelines is:
That said, it’s clear that most trans people find the use of pronouns or names that they or others have consciously rejected, to be hurtful and would therefore struggle to engage in a discussion with those who insist on using them. The same is true of the expression ‘Trans-Identified Male’ or ‘TIM’.

Well, we can certainly talk about pronouns, just not apply them to someone who rejects them. I'm not sure whether it would or wouldn't be OK if someone wanted, for some reason, to talk about the expression 'trans-identified male'. As far as I can see it should be treated on a par with 'Cis'.
