The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/a4164702-Bunbury-s-Eighth-Sealion-training-for-beginners?msgid=105201850#105201850

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

This thread will be taking a leisurely stroll through the foothills of community disruption, noting the behaviour of wildlife and interesting flora and fauna en route.

@PotholeParadies

I really like sprinkling vinegar on sliced cucumber.
I think I had very odd pickled cucumbers today. I love cucumbers in salt brine. But I bought the wrong jar - these were like overripe fruit in feeling fermented and I cannot make my mind up as to whether that was by design or accident.

I get fresh baked bread, a type of smoked but not cooked seasoned sausage and those gherkins in salt brine. Delicious dinner. I got some new brie to go with it but totally forgot that over the stupid cucumber jar mixup. Something to look forward to after that three hour -ordeal- walk to come.

CharlieParley · 06/03/2021 03:41

Hah. Strikethrough fail.

yipyap · 06/03/2021 04:09

I can't believe they have done this, all to drum up clicks.

No conscience.

MoleSmokes · 06/03/2021 06:44

Another vote for toasted Soreen and cheese!

It can be a bugger to fish Soreen out of the toaster - I've got some old-fashioned "bacon tongs" (they look like a repurposed wire coat-hanger) that do the trick.

Slather with butter (Lurpack is Arla butter!) then add cheese.

My personal preference is Wensleydale.

Also, it is bad luck to eat fruit cake without a side-order of cheese!

Another favourite:

Toast crumpets hard - just half-warmed and floppy is no good.
While they are toasting, grill some black pudding.
Spread grilled black pudding on toasted crumpets.
Top with cheese and put under grill.
A dot or two of Worcestershire Sauce to taste.

Yummmmmm!!!! Grin

MoltenLasagne · 06/03/2021 07:48

That's it, I'm getting malt loaf and Wensleydale in this weekend, possibly also crumpets thanks to MoleSmokes.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 06/03/2021 08:26

Tinsel I agree with what you said on that thread. Flowers

Hellofabor · 06/03/2021 08:42

More Flowers for Tinsel. We don’t want to lose one more set of feet from these hills.

RaidersoftheLostAardvark · 06/03/2021 08:43

Walking trousers, long socks and gaitors for the win- it's tick country round here. Make sure you pack a special device to remove annoying pests.

That is some quite extreme culinary innovation you describe there Moles, but I love that you have been experimenting with black pudding. I may try your recipe, but probably a cheese muffin base.

I made a Bombay potato and cheese omelette for lunch earlier in the week and it rocked.

Do you have this recipe?

Also, what is the thread that Tinsel needs support on?

boatyardblues · 06/03/2021 09:02

It is not as grand as it sounds Spartacus. Half a can of Sainsburys’ Bombay potato, hack at the contents of the tin with a knife to reduce the size of the potato chunks. Mix the contents of the can with two eggs and some grated cheese (no need to loosen the eggs with milk) and black pepper. Heat oil in pan, pour in mix, fry until done. It was amazing - the sauce turned the whole omelette orange and it was mildly spicy throughout. The potatoes are already well cooked, so only need to heat through. I used double Gloucester cheese but I think most hard cheeses would work. The curry is already seasoned so I didn’t add salt but you might want to.

What I don’t get is why the type of people that have come to see the exhibits on these hills, make their intention to simply shame the exhibits known and not to actually add more interesting discussions.

Imagine a scenario if you will... please bare with me while I try out a name change. (I am not a bore on SPAG though, ok?)

What on earth could the unbalanced adjudication of the debate, where only one side is effectively handicapped by the rules of the debate, achieve?

Yes sunlight. Although apparently not in Scotland often. Seems true on many levels at the moment. Flowers to those in Scotland for the struggling sunlight there.

But all it does else, is have very civil exhibits being open to abuse from others not interested in doing anything but joining the few cheerleading on the sideline.

Those cheerleaders cannot/do not add anything of substance but run interference. Although they also have their famous ‘pointy fingers of shame’ in their cheerleading kit.

One cheerleader even claimed they were an exhibit once but doesn’t ever seem to display that they had any substance or even a smidge of critical thinking in that historical era. Although, it is interesting to bring up the narrower boundaries where some persons cheerlead because it isn’t quite where the latest visitor’s call list would define the ‘true believer’ boundary.

So, I have noticed we have more cheerleaders but significantly, some new posters who also have some exceedingly good knowledge and personal experience to post that fall loosely in line with the exhibits in the hills. Just no some much to add richness to the visitors, which would be a good thing if they had depth and knowledge to share and stayed within the guidelines that the exhibits had to adhere to.

Maybe I should go try another tone that fits the flowery nature of the name? I think I bored myself to sleep.

MichelleofzeResistance · 06/03/2021 09:21

Well on reflection, I'm up these hills walking to fundraise and support women's rights, and I'm interested in the legal stuff and the awareness raising to do something productive about balancing rights. That's it really. There's no point in people with irreconcilable views trying to argue each other out of fixed beliefs, the only inclusive and kind answer is mutual tolerance and parallel provisions. So I'll be walking on by those threads personally, wishing them well but seeing no point in involvement, the way I do with most of the covid, MIL and gardening threads.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/03/2021 09:31

Boatyard - that sounds absolutely amazing. I cannot wait to try it!

Thank you!

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 06/03/2021 09:54

Maybe that should be in the preamble for Bunbury's Guide.

TinselAngel · 06/03/2021 10:05

Also, what is the thread that Tinsel needs support on?

Thanks all.

You can't support me or else you'd get banned too.

Trans Widow's lived experience cannot be applied to other applicable situations, even though we are the actual experts, so clueless posters get to inaccurately pontificate and never realise they're wrong.

We just have to be corralled onto our own thread. I'm feeling pretty bitter about being silenced again after so long.

Speaking of which, has anybody seen anything from Tyro recently?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/03/2021 11:00

I'd never presume to speak for your experience Tinsel - it would be more 'wot she said'.

I think that what you have done here and elsewhere to support transwidows is utterly amazing.

Very disappointed in Mn atm. Their actions have been very much 'not in the spirit.

TinselAngel · 06/03/2021 11:20

Apologies for feeling sorry for myself!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/03/2021 11:24

Tine=sel - you have every basis for feeling ... betrayed.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/03/2021 11:25

Tinsel. Should stop trying to balance the computer on my fat tummy.

WoolOfBat · 06/03/2021 11:32

Tinsel, I apologise profoundly if I contributed to you feeling low with my pictures. I didn’t read the article properly and on principle (to me) I have seen instances where men appear to wear dresses/skirts without trying to appropriate womanhood. They are just so secure in being men that the clothes are secondary. To me, those photos represented that.

I appreciate that I do no have the experience you have and the last thing I would want is to post anything that made you feel uncomfortable. If I did, I am very sorry.

TinselAngel · 06/03/2021 11:44

It's not your fault Wool, and it didn't make me feel uncomfortable per se, it made me feel frustrated.

Women won't see what is staring them in the face and when it's pointed out to them by women who know, they won't listen.

Feminists who are committed to the idea that GNC is good but self ID is bad have picked this case to make that point. They are completely backing the wrong horse with this one but I cannot go into any detail here without breaking TG's. (To clarify I've not got insider knowledge you only need to properly pay attention to the contents of the article).

The urge that women have to show themselves not to be bigoted over rides their critical thinking and empathy for women affected.

But just looking closely at the pictures would help.

The individual concerned is so far from being Boy George or David Bowie that it is almost laughable.

The one good thing to come out of this whole debacle is that it has shown that all the women who say that they would be out of a relationship at the first sign of anything like this are actually just as vulnerable to being manipulated as we were.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 06/03/2021 12:01

The urge that women have to show themselves not to be bigoted over rides their critical thinking and empathy for women affected.

And too often conceals the consequences from them.

I remember reading something decades ago that gave me the horrors and it comes up whenever I read about actions by women that go beyond ignoring the outcomes for women but actively harm them. It was along the lines of this:

It's traumatic enough to be shamed, beaten and/or raped. There isn't a number big enough to multiply that trauma when it's sisters who are holding your arms and legs down to facilitate it.

It's like all the bizarre family dynamics when men ban somebody from the household but it's the women who police and enforce it because they're the ones in charge of the social organisation etc.

TinselAngel · 06/03/2021 12:03

Women saying "I recognise this pattern of behaviour because I have experienced it" and other women saying "no you're wrong and hush please I'm trying to make a point" is how it feels.

ArabellaScott · 06/03/2021 12:09

Tinsel, [cuppa] and I'm sorry. I was brief on that thread, and it's a real pity that we can't discuss these things in a relaxed, open manner. Sometimes means conversation goes awry when one is trying to ballet dance through a minefield of twitter moles, invisible moderation rules and unintended consequences.
