Some real data. Thank goodness but nothing less would come from FPFW Star

Tish008 · 02/03/2021 14:53

Where can we watch this? I don't have twitter

Manderleyagain · 02/03/2021 14:57

You don't need a twitter account to read it. Click through to here, and if you can see that this tweet is part of a thread then you should be able to follow the live tweeting.

FPFW tweet:

#womensprisonJR

Case begins
Claimants barrister - Karon Monaghan QC
Sets out the laws relating to the case - EA2010 and GRA2004
/1

32m
Next KM explains the prison statistics in relation to women and transwomen. /2

27m
KM reads out trans prison statistics- including many of the figures from the @fairplaywomen witness statement. /3

KM highlighting issues associated with poor data collection by prison authorities /4

KM: cohort of trans prisoners with a disproportionate number of sex convictions. And a previous history of sex offending is a predictor of repeat offending /4

KM: Witness statement for the defence (Dr Lamble) questions reliability of the trans criminality figures but statement from Prof Phoenix disputes that. /5

Lamble statement says we don't know total number of transwomen in prison because many don't declare their trans status. Prof P disputes that because its the known TW population that matters and we know half are sex offenders. /6

Confusion over trans prison numbers - mainly because of the very bad data collection by HMPPS /7

Judges realising that MOJ do not count the number of transwomen with a GRC. This is significant /8

Claimant and one other female prisoner say they were sexually assaulted by a transwomen with a GRC. This transwomen later turned up in the trans unit at Downview /9

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 02/03/2021 15:07

Before Lord Justice Holroyde (LJH)& Mr Justice Swift (Swift)

LJH is the more senior judge but both are High Court Judges so high in the judiciary.

LJH - Lord Justice Holroyde
KM - Claimants barrister - Karon Monaghan QC
Swift - Mr Justice Swift.

highame · 02/03/2021 15:09

The GRC has a lot to answer for. The confusion and opaqueness is very apparent and the government have know this but have never tackled. Leaving to the courts

FindTheTruth · 02/03/2021 15:11

KM explains how a transwomen with a GRC will be located into female prison by default /10

.....and that transwomen without can request to be moved - and permitted on a discretionary basis /11

KM discusses Karon White and stakeholder discussions that followed, including Richard Garside and Nicola Williams present. States how we made clear that psychological impact on women of sharing with a trans sex offender has not been given due regard /12

Signalbox · 02/03/2021 15:11

Thanks :)

picklemewalnuts · 02/03/2021 15:12

Thank you!

Winesalot · 02/03/2021 15:13

Karon Monaghan QC - cohort of trans prisoners with a disproportionate number of sex convictions. And a previous history of sex offending is a predictor of repeat offending

This is so important. It bears repeating regularly.

FindTheTruth · 02/03/2021 15:14

Garside witness statement read out to reveal that in the stakeholder meeting of 2nd May the MOJ did not think the single sex exceptions applied in prison accommodation /13

😱🤬🤯😳

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 02/03/2021 15:15

I wanted to be shocked by that evidence but I wasn’t!

OP posts:
ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 02/03/2021 15:16

It’s like the Keira Bell case. Inadequate records, no real attempt to understand the law and no thought of long term consequences or psychological harm.

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 02/03/2021 15:18

the evidence seems so very, very clear. I can't believe anyone would support putting XY people into women's prisons.

Signalbox · 02/03/2021 15:20

Garside witness statement read out to reveal that in the stakeholder meeting of 2nd May the MOJ did not think the single sex exceptions applied in prison accommodation

Honestly why the fuck would they not apply! Surely this is exactly the type of service that could invoke the single sex exemptions! Unbelievable!

OvaHere · 02/03/2021 15:22

@FindTheTruth

Garside witness statement read out to reveal that in the stakeholder meeting of 2nd May the MOJ did not think the single sex exceptions applied in prison accommodation /13

😱🤬🤯😳

Bloody hell. If there was ever a time to apply them.

Not surprised though it's not like women have been given consideration in all this at any point.

ArabellaScott · 02/03/2021 15:22

They say that prisons aren't providing a service ... Hmm

Melroses · 02/03/2021 15:23

This looks similar to the Tavistock Case, in that a massive social experiment has been carried out, but no one has collected any data to see if it is working or not. No checks and balances.

ArabellaScott · 02/03/2021 15:23

Sounds almost like they think women prisoners aren't entitled to protection

Melroses · 02/03/2021 15:23

Sorry - you got there before me Wink
