According to @SexMattersOrg on Twitter the Govt have backed down on the MOMA (Maternity) Bill and will now use the word 'mother' not 'person' in the legislation!

Women did this! We are winning!

Baroness Hoey (non-affiliated) thanks Baroness Nicolson for getting all the cross-party peers together on a Zoom

Please keep posting. I can't listen to it, working out of the house, sneaking moments to check here...

Carefulvulvadriver · 25/02/2021 16:33

@Sunkisses *Yes.... trans activists have infiltrated every level of the civil service, and will be in the Parliamentary drafting office"

In my work I frequently get emails from Whitehall civil servants and can confirm the pronouning is rife

NecessaryScene1 · 25/02/2021 16:33

This is the luxury beliefs article referenced twice now. Louise Perry is one of my favourite writers.

bloomingroses · 25/02/2021 16:33

Unbelievable that we have to rejoice at something that should never have to be rejoiced about. Let’s hope this is the start.

Callmejudith · 25/02/2021 16:33

This in incredible to watch. I agree that this has opened up the floodgates.

Dalyesque · 25/02/2021 16:33

The other think that is noticeable is the cross party collaboration as a group on an issue. I have no doubt now that our concerns are in the forefront. Brilliant. Love # from B Nicholson!

Sunkisses · 25/02/2021 16:35

Baroness Hoey (non-affiliated) also makes the point that it shouldn't be left to the (Stonewall brainwashed) civil service to draft legislation and there should be Government involvement. This was a drafting error.

It is clear the neutrality of the civil service has been breached. There are trans activists in the civil service who are ignoring the fundamental principle of neutrality

Good points re. Drafting bills as well. Not to be left to civil servants, ministers/ lords need a role. Good!
Who are these civil servants that drafted this bill? Who told them to use “people “ not women? Why on this bill?
It’s interesting that so many lords/ ladies want to be recorded speaking on this, and the wider implications, like they all realise how significant it is ( under the guise of a maternity bill to give female mp’s maternity leave!!)

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 25/02/2021 16:37

The luxury beliefs article is excellent.

SantaNameChange · 25/02/2021 16:37

Peter Lilley is now talking about control of language - referencing Orwell and Newspeak.

They really are getting to the heart of so many issues.

Sunkisses · 25/02/2021 16:37

"Totalitarian societies of all stripes know that to control a society is to control the language. Orwell got it right" - Lord Lilley (Conservative)

Tuning in, thanks for posting all the speech summaries !

YourWurstNightmare · 25/02/2021 16:37

Damn, these speeches are just getting better and better.

DreamEvenBigger · 25/02/2021 16:37

I feel so happy. So much of what we've been saying and have been shouted down for is now being said. Thank you!!!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/02/2021 16:37

Mmm! I now have an image of Sir Humphrey... Yes Minister... explaining gender neutral language. 😁 😕

So much this

Back to my linguistics / feminism days at university

highame · 25/02/2021 16:38

Lord Lilley control of language - totalitarians control language. Narrow the range of thought, thought crime becomes literally impossible because there will be no words left. Message to those in the cabinet office.....

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/02/2021 16:38

Really? Marvellous!

winterinmadeira · 25/02/2021 16:39

This is excellent....I’m so pleased. The speeches have been fabulous.

Sunkisses · 25/02/2021 16:39

"This extreme ideology does not want equal rights whilst recognises our differences. It wants to deny those differences exist at all. Happily that agenda has been rolled back today" - Lord Lilley (Conservative)

I'm astonished their close to hitting every major issue brought up in the last few years and it's going to be all there in parliamentary record to hold lawmakers to account for decades.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 25/02/2021 16:39

It's been a crappy day all in all but this has really lifted my spirits. :)

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 25/02/2021 16:41

If I ran a women's refuge which had just lost it's funding I'd be feeling a bit less despairing this afternoon than I would have been this morning.

We can sort this crap out.

We can.

DreamEvenBigger · 25/02/2021 16:41

Yes!!!!!!!!!
