Do you watch porn?

I've been reading a convo on Twitter where several people are claiming - including a woman - that women watch porn as well as men. My first reaction is, this isn't true. Sure, I've watched it from time to time, usually in the company of men, but it's so boring, so divorced from real sex/real bodies, that I'd almost rather do anything else.

Am I wrong? I realise I'm asking a group of women who are probably going to have a more cynical view of pornography, but I'm having a hard time believing women have a porn habit even remotely comparable to men's.
@Deathgrip there’s some pretty explicit sex and nudity scenes in some standard, well known movies with actors who probably wouldn’t have chosen to do them. A lot of actors find kissing and sex scenes cringeworthy and uncomfortable but accept that’s it’s part of their role and they have to follow the lead of the director. So by your reckoning any actor who has to act out a sex scene or take off their clothes in front of the camera is being exploited?
Ahh the original poster of that comment - excellent! Maybe I won't have to take all the bullets now for just agreeing with you. Grin

LouJ85 · 19/02/2021 23:35

Yes it’s very clear! She is happy to observe a woman going through something painful and damaging because she gets off on it, but wouldn’t do it herself because she knows the reality would be horrendous.

You've added the last part in. She didn't say "I won't do it myself because it would be horrendous", at all. She says it's not something I do in my own life. Do we know why? No, we don't. Maybe she wants to but hasn't had an opportunity to? Number of possibilities as to why not. But you adding things into the quote that aren't there to fit your own narrative is a little silly.

Bluemooninmyeyes1 · 19/02/2021 23:35

@LouJ85 yeah, I thought it was bizarre how she jumped on you when you hadn’t even made the comment. I’m sure you feel very ‘exploited’ and ‘abused’ Wink

my son does not

Does he have a phone or a computer? Is he mid teens or older?

If yes then he has seen porn.

mayjaye · 20/02/2021 01:15

@ginandbearit

Is the underlying objection to porn on here really an objection to heterosexual porn involving men and women?

I dont hear of objections to porn showing enthusiastic gay men having sex with other enthusiastic gay men, or enthusiastic lesbians.having sex with other enthusiastic lesbians..and there seems to be a bit of an appetite for watching men on their own too ..so are there areas of sexual activity that dont trigger concern ?

This is an interesting question. I don't recall ever being bothered by gay porn; specifically, it's the degrading and objectifying way that women are treated in the little heterosexual porn I've seen that upsets me.

Again, the fact some think there’s little difference nudity / kissing or simulated sex and being penetrated is just odd. You must be being disingenuous, I can’t believe anyone does not see why it’s different.

Number of possibilities as to why not.

Yes, I’m sure it’s just that she hasn’t had the opportunity 🙄

IAmFleshIAmBone · 20/02/2021 05:29

To those who say yes: why do you lack empathy for the potential suffering of others? Is it less important than your orgasm?

Frenchdressing · 20/02/2021 05:36

No. A while ago some porn ended up on my Twitter account (no idea how), someone must have tweeted it. I watched it out of curiosity. It was a short clip and honestly it was so grim. Depressed me tbh.

JudithButlerNot · 20/02/2021 07:30

No

TonightMatthew · 20/02/2021 07:32

maybe she just needs to watch some porn to lighten up a bit. I often find that ardent porn haters like @Deathgrip are mainly uptight and tetchy grin

Yes, all those morals and empathy getting in the way of a good wank to rape and torture. Sooo uptight.

IAmFleshIAmBone · 20/02/2021 08:04

Theres nothing that lightens me up more than seeing a poor abused woman being penetrated by multiple penises. But it doesn't matter because 'it's not her real life.'

TonightMatthew · 20/02/2021 08:19

I find it such a turn on to not know whether she is over 18, whether she has consented, whether she's been trafficked, if she's doing it to fund a drug habit or keep her pimp from beating or killing her, not doing knowing if her injuries are serious and if she'll receive proper treatment for them, and if she wishes she was dead instead.

And then there's the effect on relationships, societies approach to women as fuck holes, teen brains, revenge porn, and expectations of degrading sex as normal. That's some HOT STUFF.

Please don't leave out the erotic fact that even if she gives it up she'll struggle to ever get a decent job, she'll potentially suffer from ptsd, and that her images will be out there forever for men (and some really cool, progressive women) to wank to and there's literally nothing she can do about it. Oof how sexy!

TonightMatthew · 20/02/2021 08:27

Exactly.

And all of my comments apply to men too as there are vulnerable men and boys exploited, humiliated and degraded by porn as well, but it is overwhelmingly women who suffer from the porn industry.

DaisiesandButtercups · 20/02/2021 08:30

Well said TonightMatthew and IAmFleshAndBone!

IAmFleshIAmBone · 20/02/2021 08:35

TonightMatthew agreed, it's predominantly but not only a female issue.

LouJ85 · 20/02/2021 09:27

Yes, I’m sure it’s just that she hasn’t had the opportunity

Well, I mean. It is possible. She clearly states "it's a fantasy of mine". And 30 men would be tricky to find in real life, I imagine.

Regarding the other question along the lines of why do you lack empathy blah blah. Not even going there. You have no idea what type of porn the women on here watch, who have said yes. They types you are describing sound disturbing to be honest and not something I've ever come across that's for sure. And I've said multiple times on here - watching a man masturbate is not getting off to rape and torture. If you can't see that, your perception of the world is beyond skewed.

Ex porn star Mia Khalifa has been trying to get her content removed from pornhub for years but they are refusing point blank. She has been really fucked over by them, I found it really upsetting reading everything she has been through. You can sign this petition to help her

I think many women's gripe on here is with the same - and funnily enough - male only content is more my thing, too. I would equally be upset to see a woman be treated in a way I viewed to be appallingly, of course I would.

IAmFleshIAmBone · 20/02/2021 09:32

LouJ85 you are deluded if you think there is ANY way you can ever know if something is consensual. What does rape look like to you? How do you ensure that the porn you watch is ethical? And why are you 'not going there'? Sorry that you think a concern about the safeguarding of vulnerable people is 'blah blah' 🤔

I get so confused by the "actors do sex scenes" argument.
If acted sex scenes and porn were the same then there would be far more acting and far less porn. They just aren't the same. Its so weird.
Mind you, the same applies to the "women read 50 shades and so its massive double standards to complain about porn" line.
Basically it amazes me the lengths people go to, to convince themselves their porn habit is fine and not hurting anyone despite all evidence to the contrary.
