And none of whom are nazis, obviously.

MissBarbary · 17/02/2021 13:03

I've reported Djalil's attacks on @Tarunperin. Has anyone else?

I wonder if anything will be done?

SunsetBeetch · 17/02/2021 13:08

I don't have a twitter account any more, otherwise I would. That's flat-out bullying. He's not looking good here at all.

AdHominemNonSequitur · 17/02/2021 13:47

Definately not, let him hang himself with his own rope. We need idiots like that to expose the issue, and push back but not cancellation.

SunsetBeetch · 17/02/2021 14:04

I think it's a bit different if he's actively targeting one person though.

HermitsLife · 17/02/2021 14:15

Its not a good look for OD, maybe he's planning an early retirement?

On a positive note, its lovely in these uncertain times and in the midst of lockdown that some things like getting new visitors during half term remain the same.

Yes it is, especially one ordinary, not famous individual who hasn't the clout to retaliate without fear or the thick skin not to care.

I take it you are sarcastically referring to NewParent?

NewParent seems to be saying the Nazi comment was not a specific attack on Todd and feminists. I think that's a reasonable interpretation and it's what I would make of it. It can be interpreted the way the majority have taken it, but the majority here are coming at it from a particular view point.

For all the talk on here about not being an echo chamber/ being open to debate the veneer is rather thin.

Djalil is attacking anyone outside his approved circle of people who should be permitted to speak, which should be the focus.

Helmetbymidnight · 17/02/2021 14:50

Wow, he started out looking stupid and now he looks really stupid.

He's not bothered to listen to what many people have kindly explained to him, and instead is still insisting on calling people Nazis.

Why?

He is in interesting contrast to Otto English - who backed down, and wrote something like: 'Ah I didn't realise all this/it was more complex than I thought.'

I know which one comes across much better.

SunsetBeetch · 17/02/2021 15:20

@MissBarbary I think it's more that he jumped on here to tone police people, then admitted that he was just trolling for reactions that is the issue with their posts.

SunsetBeetch · 17/02/2021 15:27

Oh I see that his trolling posts have been removed, so you possibly didn't see them, @missbarbary . But he did straight up admit he was trolling.

MissBarbary · 17/02/2021 15:52

He has I think 3 deleted posts one of which is for quoting someone else's deleted post. There are a lot of deleted posts by several posters. I don't see anything particularly trollish about his remaining posts - some of the "behold a man" and " why don't you get back looking after your baby" posts are unnecessary.

I'll be avoiding Djalil after this - I don't think he specifically called Todd a Nazi but he definitely called an innocent bystander that and has no respect for freedom of speech. I suspect my being a Conservative voter means he wouldn't want me as a fan anyway.

HermitsLife · 17/02/2021 15:55

MissBarbary I can understand why you take that point as a lot of his posts have been deleted including the one where he admits he's only here to get a rise out of women. I'm all up for debate and hearing alternative views but I don't see why we have to indulge bad faith antagonism.

SunsetBeetch · 17/02/2021 16:04

No he's got three deleted posts AND one that's been deleted for quoting a deleted post. Right from the first post disagreeing with him, he was tone policing and griping about militant feminists, which is going to get people backs up on a feminist board. And he admitted he was trolling for reaction. Is that not childish too?

Anyway, that's given him far more attention than he deserves. And probably not near enough the attenhe craves.

I am also v disappointed in Omid and probably won't be paying his comedy much mind any more. I'm tired of this polarising "left good, right evil" nonsense and anyone who espouses it. It's stupid, immature thinking, it's not reality and it's entirely not helpful. Christ knows where it's all going to end.

jj1968 · 17/02/2021 18:02

And of course the supreme irony was that it was free speech that did for Nick Griffin. Lots of people on the left were outraged at Question Time giving him a platform - but in fact once he's exposed himself as a fucking Muppet live on TV in front of an audience of millions his political career tanked.

Six months after Griffin's appearance on Question Time the BNP, which was still led by him, achieved over half a million votes in the 2010 general election - the strongest showing ever by a far right party in the UK by a long way. It's a liberal myth that his appearance on Question Time caused a drop in popularity.

Thankfully the party later entered near collapse due to in-fighting, as far right parties often do, but they were certainly not harmed by his QT appearance.

jj1968 · 17/02/2021 18:07

He might just be attacking Nazis to be fair. There have been rows in the past over both Nick Griffin and David Irving being asked to speak at Oxford, and it's possible any law changes might enshrine their right to do so.

Helmetbymidnight · 17/02/2021 18:29

oh right so the woman who asked him to stop comparing feminists to nazis is a nazi? riight.

No that was a stupid throw away comment. I meant his initial tweet might not have been intended to reference Todd but to highlight a law that could potentially see actual Nazis demanding the right to speak in universities.
Helmetbymidnight · 17/02/2021 18:46

so repeatedly calling a woman a nazi when she asked him not to compare women to nazis is...attacking nazis now.

what an absolute hero. Hmm ffs.

I would believe that if there were recent any evidence a Nazi had wanted to speak at a university and had been no platformed.

Germaine Greer
Dr. Jordan Peterson
Julie Bindel
Julia Hartley- Brewer
Professor Selina Todd
Amber Rudd
have all been no platformed.
and plenty of other people

None of them remotely resemble a Nazi

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 17/02/2021 20:10

I doubt Omid Djalili is daft enough to believe that a law is being planned to compel universities to offer a platform to everyone who wants to speak.

PotholeParadies · 17/02/2021 20:47

He's still digging his hole and attacking @Tarunperin!

PotholeParadies · 17/02/2021 20:52

He's accusing people of orchestrating online hate against him. The man has 292k followers and is complaining that things he tweets get seen by a large number of people!

And now he's going after Dr EM (disabled, GC feminist academic) on twitter.

Yes I just saw that. This is insane! He really needs to step away from twitter imo.

This wasn't that long ago, it's what I first thought of when I saw his tweet.

A debate on free speech at the Oxford Union descended into chaos last night after scores of demonstrators broke through a security cordon and staged a sit-down protest in the union's famous chamber.

Scuffles broke out in the hall as the demonstrators - there to voice their opposition to the presence of discredited historian David Irving and BNP leader Nick Griffin - clashed with organisers and security guards.
