I don't think you've read the original tweet or understood context

LMAO at this comment from someone who clearly didn't read the article OD was referring to.

donquixotedelamancha · 17/02/2021 10:21

I am pretty sure that the Selina Todd bit was there from the outset. I read it yesterday morning and it was in there. However, I couldn't say for sure exactly when it was.

Yeah, it was there when I read it yesterday too.

BuntingEllacott · 17/02/2021 10:22

Alexa, what is sea lioning?

Seriously, I don't tend to favour jargon buzzwords, but NewParent, it's been explained to you a number of times that the no platforming response has affected feminists directly and this was part of the story Djalili shared and dismissed as 'just nazis'.

If you persist on scolding those who have pointed this out to you, I can assure you readers will draw their own conclusions about both your reading comprehension and your good intent.

NewParent11 · 17/02/2021 10:22

Think you've said it perfectly. Both parties reluctant to see the other side through stubbornness. To be honest I don't have any issues with what has been said more the ignorance to being able look beyond a single agenda. It clearly wasn't a slight on feminism but any excuse to kick off

donquixotedelamancha · 17/02/2021 10:27

The ONLY person mentioned in the article as someone who could benefit from these new provisions i.e. would be allowed to speak freely was not a neo-Nazi, not Donald Trump, not a member of QAnon. It was an academic who is a gender critical feminist. So yes, it isn't a huge leap to say that Omid was referring to her as a Nazi.

Indeed and one of the first people to point out this discrepancy was called Adolf OD. In fairness, I think that was supposed to be a joke (normally one would be able to tell because there would be some element of humour to the comment but as it's OD, I have no clue).

I don't think he meant to have a go at feminists, I don't think he read the article and just got defensive when loads of people started disagreeing with him. His recent post thanking someone for context which was in the original article suggest he still hasn't read it.

NewParent11 · 17/02/2021 10:31

Prepare for the unholy backlash for saying he wasn't being misogynistic and that a comedian (god forbid) was telling a joke

FamilyOfAliens · 17/02/2021 10:31

Keep calm, keep raising valid arguments and people will listen.
Behave like this no one outside this forum will take you seriously.

Ladies - shut your traps and #bekind.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 17/02/2021 10:33

I suspect he skim read the Selina Todd paragraph as [blah blah women stuff]
Hence his surprise when it all kicked off

If you assumed the free speech debate was in the same place as a decade ago, you'd think it was about Nick Griffin and milkshakes and stuff and wonder what all the fuss was about

merrymouse · 17/02/2021 10:35

It's also this very militant and aggressive approach you take to everything. You know your audience here and know everyone will rally to anything that could in any way be perceived as anti feminist.

The article referenced attempts to silence a woman because of her feminist views.

You are simply being corrected. It might feel that you are being attacked because you have been corrected multiple times, but given the nature of your error, the number of corrections is proportionate.

No, do anything but shut our traps! What a stupid thing to say.

Rise above and beat the stereotype, don't become one

Horizons83 · 17/02/2021 10:39

@donquixotedelamancha I agree, I expect that he hadn't even read the article fully, and certainly did not mean to make the association, but to start calling people Adolf is pretty low.

And perhaps another indication of how people don't read anything properly and also have a vague understanding of a topic without really thinking it through fully.

Which is probably the case in all sorts of topics. I don't know much about climate change, as it's not a topic which particularly interests me, although I am sure I should be more engaged with it. However, if I make a comment such as 'I don't think it's a good idea for the UK to ban new petrol car sales after 2030, we should allow them to be sold for longer' then I will probably get polite disagreement and credible information sources to educate myself further.

But if I say 'I don't think the laws should change to allow Self-ID of gender' then at best I get called a transphobe and bigot, and at worst I am fearful of losing my employment.

Sorry, off on a tangent there.

It's the BBC article that has a link to another report entitled "Nazi salutes, laddish societies and safe spaces"

I wonder if that's why Omid picked up the Nazi label, especially if he was skim-reading: I wonder if the linked report was deliberately placed.

Fucking clueless tosspot. These men make me so angry!

Glad to see him being taken to task in the replies.

I particularly like this one:

"Sometimes, when you've put your foot in it up to your bollocks, it's better to walk away than pretend you found the experience funny."

That is indeed a good response, Sunset.

Oh @NewParent11, thank goodness you are here to keep these silly mummies in line.

Do you fondly imagine that because you have reproduced that makes you the boss of the world?

That's a possible explanation. Doesn't explain the doubling down when it's pointed out to him that he's making a tit of himself.
PotholeParadies · 17/02/2021 11:07

Omid Djalili has three children. Have you tweeted the same admonition to him?

Thelnebriati · 17/02/2021 11:08

''If you don't talk the right way the important people wont listen'' isn't the gotcha people seem to think it is.

merrymouse · 17/02/2021 11:08

Just feel it's necessary to point out for no particular reason that my user name is not accurate and I am not actually a mouse so...
