Point 8
When someone points out that he's told some fairly 'off' jokes himself in the past, he appears to take the line I can't possibly be antisemitic because one of my mates is famously Jewish, tagging in said mate who sensibly keeps the fuck out of the whirlpool of dickery.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/02/2021 11:35

A twitter tantrum lasting days in which he makes clear he's targeting one woman and goes looking for evidence to support a "see, I told you she was a witch" stance.

Yes, exactly.

Helmetbymidnight · 19/02/2021 11:41

3 He didn't say only Nazis but did say Nazis. (I think)

5 He also called a woman he didn't agree with a bot.

And yeah, as PP have pointed out, I don't think he's as unaware of gender politics as it might seem.

Darcinian · 19/02/2021 11:41

Quite the mantrum.

Oddly hypnotic.

Slow motion car crash.

Self-destruct level 100 has been unlocked.

Tombero has it right he has proved the point he was trying to disprove.

On the subject of free speech, I just saw this LibDem twitter post regarding Layla Moran on QT Shock

Should free speech at universities be a priority right now? "Absolutely not"

I don't know anything about this, I can't click the twitter link as it asks me to sign up. All I will say is that as a man, his opinion on womens rights doesn't matter.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 19/02/2021 11:59

His glee at 'Oh DrEm is anti trans?? this should be interesting!' shows he knows nothing about the debate.
He's also now upsetting the TRAs by saying he'd have retwetted DrEms thread.

He's all over the place, and has no idea what he's wandered into and is too arrogant to stop and find out.

He doesn't seem able to think:
When I said Nazis? who did I mean? I guess I meant people who are de platformed.
Oh seems many of them are women. I didn't reda the articel did I?
Oh dear I seem to have implied a load of women are Nazis.
That's not a great look.
I wonder why women are being de platformed?
Maybe I should find out...

nauticant · 19/02/2021 12:04

shows he knows nothing about the debate

This is often put forward as a position that can be modified or abandoned at no cost. It's not always true. It's often a "run with the hare and hunt with the hounds" position.

yourhairiswinterfire · 19/02/2021 12:07

''Only idiots took it to mean I meant Selina Todd.'

Mate, if you didn't want people to think you meant Selina Todd, maybe don't link to an article where Selina Todd is the only deplatformed person mentioned by name, whilst saying people don't want to listen to Nazis.

Hmm

Whirlpool of dickery Grin

@TheCatThatGotTheCream you don't have to sign up to read tweets, just ignore the message and refresh or hit back and then click on the link again.

Sophoclesthefox · 19/02/2021 12:11

He absolutely knows what is going on, because of the glee at finding out that dr EM is gender critical. He’s perfectly aware that’s a free pass to a lefty bro to go after a woman and keep his hands clean.

Twitter spats are usually very boring, but something about this untrammelled testeria has reeled me in.

SheGonBringThatAttitudeHome2 · 19/02/2021 12:16

The phrase whirlpool of dickery wins the internet today.

SheGonBringThatAttitudeHome2 · 19/02/2021 12:17

untrammelled testeria came a close second.

Yes that's how I read it too.

merrymouse · 19/02/2021 12:22

He clearly neither knows nor cares who Selina Todd is, but assumes her experience must be irrelevant to the discussion. Only idiots would assume that a woman should be heard.

I saw that as well. Completely bizarre. I think they should get rid of the word 'Liberal' from their title.

The man doth protests to much methinks. Deep down he knows he is in the wrong. Everyone keeps telling him he's acting like a prize prat but no he keeps on going because he's gone too far. He can't be seen as being wrong.

Oh well, I quite liked him and is a comedian I would quite happily see but now will now avoid because he's revealed himself to be a total bell end.

oneglassandpuzzled · 19/02/2021 12:29

@Wearywithteens

krustykittens - I feel exactly the same. I keep hoping a miracle will happen and someone highly influential and universally liked will declare the plain truth about the emperors new clothes but no, every day it just gets worse.
JKR was influential and generally liked, donated a lot to charity, etc. It didn't stop them.
yourhairiswinterfire · 19/02/2021 12:29

I don't know how Lawyers advise, but wouldn't they have at least told Omid to step back and not comment on the issue further if he's taking action?

Would a lawyer (or judge) be impressed that the man crying abuse has hopped straight back onto Twitter to start rounds 2 and 3 against a woman who has locked her account? (presumably to avoid his 292k followers)

The Lib Dems of all parties, don't think free speech is a priority- mind boggling.

And as for this claptrap of it being a "distraction" - we are taking about the Government and the vast machinery of Government. I kind of expect the Government to be able to deal with more than 1 thing at a time- even in a crisis. The "distraction" is calling it a distraction.

In fact any sane person would want the Government to be carrying on as much as possible with business as usual otherwise it'll all pile up and won't be dealt with.

Darcinian · 19/02/2021 12:37

Lib Dems are getting unfavourable ratios to put mildly.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/02/2021 12:38

It's particularly interesting when we had someone trying to make the argument that the Lib Dems stood for freedom.

littlebillie · 19/02/2021 12:42

@krustykittens

Does anyone feel we are going backwards in terms of women's rights? Rape is practically de-criminalised, we don't have equal pay, women dying every week at the hands of their partners and now we can't even say that our sex exists as a biological fact without being the targets of physical and verbal abuse. I have lost two friends over this because they believe that anyone who disagrees that transwomen are women is a hateful bigot who doesn't have the right to breath (paraphrasing but you get the gist). Universities are amongst the worst for fostering this attitude and there is no debate. We are just expected to hand over our sex-based, hard won rights without a murmur and just be grateful we are allowed to exist.
I totally agree, I feel so sad whenever I read anything these days on this forum.

Should free speech at universities be a priority right now?

this is a loaded question

clearly it is not as important as covid but parliamentary time can be found for it

Darcinian · 19/02/2021 13:04

Free speech and covid are not separate topics. Free speech is vital to solve problems like covid.

It is a huge problem if our future leaders the 18-22s at uni are led to believe it is acceptable to no platform, no debate, seek safe spaces in the place they are supposed to be learning to think, explore and debate.

Training future scientists, journalists and politicians to think like astrologers and despots is a disaster in waiting.

Open the windows, let the sunlight in now. Debate debate debate.
