He comes across so badly.

I had absolutely no opinion of him before, but I massively dislike him now.

He must be slightly stupid to not realise how he is coming across.

He also have to be quite misogynistic to use his massive following to keep going after a disabled woman who has blocked him. It is not the right thing to do (regardless of what she said) and He just doesn’t seem to be a nice man.

I can live with nice men who are a bit thick, everyone cannot have insights. I can also have an embarrassing appreciation of very intelligent men, even if they are misogynistic and devoid of morals.

But the combination of misogynistic, devoid of morals and stupid is...🤮.

It doesn't take much does it. What a disappointing man.
7Days · 19/02/2021 09:17

Lol at "so brave" to stand up for trans people. What a reversal in that tweet

PotholeParadies · 19/02/2021 09:20

Still at it, oh yes.

Duracell bunny. Look at how many mountains Mr I've-Been-Defamed has crossed in a single bound here.

i bet he'll go full on TRA's now Grin

all those anime avators stroking his ego- whats not to like?

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/02/2021 09:32

Having looked at previous tweets, he seems to have ties with Eddie Izzard. Unsurprising that he is coming across as anti women’s rights.

TomatoesAreFruit · 19/02/2021 09:34

I didn't have any views positive or negative about him before yesterday, now I do.

He just seems to be digging himself into a deeper and deeper hole and in my mind his behaviour seems bullying.

If I was his agent, friend, partner etc, I would tell him to step away from the keyboard. I am not and a perverse part of me hopes he keeps on damaging his own reputation.

PotholeParadies · 19/02/2021 09:35

Well, he's going to need to suck up to Eddie. I suspect he's completely burned his bridges with David Baddiel.

HermitsLife · 19/02/2021 09:36

BarbaraofKent Yes, he appeared on SNL wearing a TShirt saying Protect Trans Kids, and was getting lots of love on Twitter. A mum asked him if he knew about ROGD and what he thinks protecting trans kids entails. A load of his followers basically called her a child abuser (you can imagine what they were saying) and he happily joined in and did nothing to stop the abuse.

Really changed my opinion of him, she was already suffering and this just made it worse.

Anyway, back to OD I think PP is right, his ego just won't let him back off now (even when she isn't responding). Embarrasing

RoyalCorgi · 19/02/2021 09:40

Hang on, did she actually call him a paedophile or is this just more shit slinging from him?

He's trying to make an analogy, namely that if you say something offensive and libellous to someone, and that person says they're going to sue you, you can't then back off and say "Poor me, I'm in a wheelchair".

The utterly bizarre thing about this is that Dr Em didn't accuse him of being a paedophile or a Nazi or anything at all - she just pointed out that he had called other people Nazis. Which he indisputably did. It's all there in black and white. If anyone has the right to sue, it's the woman he addressed as Eva Braun.

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 19/02/2021 09:53

Ugh the whole thing is a disgrace. He seems utterly impervious to what he's done & how he comes across. Worst thing is that it prob won't affect his career or standing.

BarbaraofKent · 19/02/2021 10:10

The bizarre thing is he could have just said 'sorry, I didn't read the article properly, I was wrong to refer to the people in the article as Nazis, apologies' and that would have been it, finished.

This is all stemming from the fact that he didnt want to admit that he didn't read an article before tweeting it.

Whatstheweatherlike · 19/02/2021 10:14

At what point does this become targeted harassment? It's two days since Dr Em protected her account and he is continuing to tweet relentlessly about her?

merrymouse · 19/02/2021 10:15

Agree.

However, because his knee jerk reaction was to assume that the person correcting him was wrong, he quickly went beyond the point where he felt able to stop digging his hole.

Floisme · 19/02/2021 10:22

I guess that if you're comedian and you've lost your audience then desperate measures might be called for.
But I'm far more interested in how Dr Em is Flowers

PotholeParadies · 19/02/2021 10:25

Ooh. Interesting. Turns out that [insert your preferred noun here], sometime writer for the online sister of the Independent stuck h** oar in last night.

How much did that influence OD to go down the "Dr EM is anti-trans" road this morning?

At what point does this become targeted harassment?

I'd go for the moment he agreed that he was acting like a stalker:

<a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20210218222640/twitter.com/omid9/status/1362511435578957827" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">web.archive.org/web/20210218222640/twitter.com/omid9/status/1362511435578957827

Omid Djalili
Are Dr Em tweets still there?

Wicked witch of the North
Bit stalkery innit?

Omid Djalili
💯 and I’m not letting go

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 19/02/2021 10:57

What a very unpleasant man. This was his original tweet:
mobile.twitter.com/omid9/status/1361620826089549826
which linked to:
www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-55995979

The last couple of paragraphs in that article are about Selina Todd's comments and women being afraid to speak out (snippet below).

He then doubled down by calling women Adolf and Eva Braun, and then denying that he was calling women Nazis. Hmm.
I honestly don't see how he has a leg to stand on legally. While I don't want to see DrEm get sued, I'd love to see him try to make his case in court. A judge would be a lot less sympathetic than his twitter followers.

I'm also bemused by the fact that he's gone on about her 'sending her 14k twitter followers after him' when he's got 292k and is still tweeting about her, even though she blocked him and made her account private a couple of days ago.

'Prof Selina Todd, an Oxford University academic who previously had an invitation to a conference celebrating women withdrawn over her stance on transgender rights issues, welcomed government action although she said the free speech champion could be a "blunt instrument".
She told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that universities have "dismally failed" to uphold freedom of debate in recent years.
"Things have got a lot worse for academics and for students - many of whom get in touch with me anonymously to say how frightened they are to speak out," she said.

teawamutu · 19/02/2021 10:58

Jesus. Is he quite well?

Tombero · 19/02/2021 11:11

Hi, I haven’t posted here before, but I’ve been lurking a lot.

I wanted to check I’m understanding this all correctly (genuinely, not with faux innocence):

1 An alarming number of women have been ‘cancelled’ for expressing GC views. This stops there being a rational debate.

2 The Government call for a change in legislation in order to support free speech.

3 A comedian tweets the article claiming it distracts from bigger things (I disagree with that as I find I can hold a number of thoughts in my head at one time). He also says it’s only Nazis being cancelled.

4 A number of people try to explain point 1 to him.

5 He calls people Adolf, Eva, Nazi etc, threatens to sue and instigates a pile on and is gleeful to learn the person he is targeting is GC.

Thereby giving a textbook example of point 1 and proving why point 2 is necessary?

SirVixofVixHall · 19/02/2021 11:14

@krustykittens

Does anyone feel we are going backwards in terms of women's rights? Rape is practically de-criminalised, we don't have equal pay, women dying every week at the hands of their partners and now we can't even say that our sex exists as a biological fact without being the targets of physical and verbal abuse. I have lost two friends over this because they believe that anyone who disagrees that transwomen are women is a hateful bigot who doesn't have the right to breath (paraphrasing but you get the gist). Universities are amongst the worst for fostering this attitude and there is no debate. We are just expected to hand over our sex-based, hard won rights without a murmur and just be grateful we are allowed to exist.
Yes. We are going backwards.

This. I used to like him, he is not coming across well here, he is just digging himself further into a hole and looks like an idiot.
nauticant · 19/02/2021 11:18

There are also points 6 and 7 (among others):

  1. When this wasn't working he claimed his tweets had just been jokey banter.
  1. A twitter tantrum lasting days in which he makes clear he's targeting one woman and goes looking for evidence to support a "see, I told you she was a witch" stance.

Pretty much.
