Do please avoid this if you are likely to be upset - I am finding the story very hard to read.

Disturbing and horrible allegations coming from women detained in China. 'rape has become a culture'

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-55794071

Is there anything at all that can be done about this?

Thanks for posting the www.saveuighur.org/83-companies-linked-to-uighur-forced-labor/ link. I have signed up.

I have written to my MP about it to ask what the government is doing - what it is trying to get the international community to do and to ask for all companies involved in slave labour to be sanctioned. It is truly shocking.

There have been international condemnation and boycotts on atrocities/abuses by countries before - just on weaker countries I suppose.

They are discussing this in Parliament now- it’s on BBC news channel. It’s absolutely harrowing but thank goodness it’s getting publicity.

ArabellaScott · 04/02/2021 11:17

Yes, glad it's being discussed, although the whole thing just looks more frightening the more I look into it.

It’s does. I just saw 2 women talking about their experience, it’s was so horrific I had to turn it off. The World must do something.

NiceGerbil · 04/02/2021 15:00

I'm very pleased to see a strong reaction from USA and GB governments (and possibly more but not reported).

Catmaiden · 04/02/2021 19:17

Used my sm to re tweet etc this. Disgusting. Horrible to read about, disgusted it's not really "an issue" Angry cos it's yet again just Women, innit Angry

Andante57 · 04/02/2021 19:23

Where is there outcry? All the usual public figures that love to condemn atrocities appear to have lost their voices

Yes, where is Emma Thompson for example and other actors who are vocal on other issues?
UK universities accept money from China so they will keep quiet.
The UN isn’t fit for purpose.

Mumofgirlswholiketoplaywithmud · 04/02/2021 22:19

The UN seem silent on it Shock

ArabellaScott · 04/02/2021 23:04

Read upthread, Mumofgirls, it's worse than silence, they've handed over names to the Chinese govt.

Trade deals seem more important perhaps. shocking and but feeling powerless to do much. They will take no notice.

@lightand

China rules the world. Not the US Not Saudi Not the UN Not EU
Yup. Every single other country is in thrall to China. China cannot be criticised. They have SO much power.

I feel sick to my stomach. Thank you to the other posters who have provided info of action we can take.

I can't recall any of the usually woke hollywood stars and politicians having much to say about the treatment of John Boyega either. Funny that.

BelleHathor · 07/02/2021 15:03

No problem Arabella. Vote on Tuesday in Parliament to allow judges to recognise genocide so hopefully it passes. Seems like every international body is captured by the CCP, as the International Criminal Court has refused to hear a case by the Uighurs.

A lot of Chinese Investment into Hollywood over the last 20 years, many films would not make a profit without the Chinese Market, so morals only dependant on the balance sheet, remember the Star Wars poster where they shrunk John Boyega.

And this is the country whose experimental lockdown policy the world has decided to emulate......
