Which brands are too woke for my custom?

TheBuffster · 02/02/2021 12:04

Following the Innocent doubling down on we protect everyone from discrimination apart from women bs I was wondering who else I should be avoiding and why.

So far my list is
Innocent (woke Twitter pandering)
Coca cola (subsidiary of innocent)
Flora (withdrew advertising from Mumsnet)
Oatly (guardian as)

Any others I should know of?
Thanks 😊

Following with interest, thank you. Sorry I don’t have any suggestions at the moment though.

TornadoOfSouls · 02/02/2021 12:09

Body Shop.

YrHenWrach · 02/02/2021 12:10

Lush and Body Shop, plenty of san-pro companies are referring to women as menstruators too.
I have a list on Twitter, will see if I can find more.

ArabellaScott · 02/02/2021 12:10

I'm sure there are some period products companies who can't bring themselves to use the word 'woman'.

SirSamuelVimes · 02/02/2021 12:11

Coca-cola also teamed up with Stonewall so that company in its own right, not just as a subsidiary of Innocent.

Whyistheteacold · 02/02/2021 12:15

😭 Starbucks?? Why?!

stealthninjamum · 02/02/2021 12:17

Didn’t marmite give money to stonewall? My family have switched to own brand alternatives and peanut butter.

Upfield own marmite, flora, and a shitload of other brands (mostly highly processed vegetable oil shite dressed up to look like dairy).
Hotpinkangel19 · 02/02/2021 12:27

Why lush??

Sexnotgender · 02/02/2021 12:29

@Whyistheteacold

😭 Starbucks?? Why?!
Supports mermaids.
BaronessVonCake · 02/02/2021 12:30

@Whyistheteacold

😭 Starbucks?? Why?!
They ran a campaign selling mermaid cookies and giving some of the money to Mermaids
Sexnotgender · 02/02/2021 12:30

Cheeky wipes.

Clevererthanyou · 02/02/2021 12:30

Not a brand but a writer. Stephen King has drunk the Kool Aid. I haven’t missed one of his books or film adaptations since I was 7 but bugger that for a barrel of misogyny.

And Phillip Pullman too I think.

The row kicked off over Lush taking exception to someone placing a small sticker on one of their windows saying "keep women's prison's single sex":

Lush are also somewhat dodgy when it comes to employment practices:

(One of many - if you google Lush employment practices, you will find page after page of this.)

Sexnotgender · 02/02/2021 12:39

Pretty sure lush are in bed with Oger in Tranada too.

CaraDuneRedux · 02/02/2021 12:44

We need a parallel thread for sane brands - e.g. Yorkshire Tea, or GWR (for that marvellous reply on their Twitter feed which effectively said "No, we are not kink-shaming you by having a porn filter on our in-train wifi which prevents you surfing the web for sex toys while on a long journey. We simply have customers with children under 18 who may be walking up the aisle of the train and do not wish to see that over your shoulder" - only he said it much more elegantly and succinctly.)

JoodyBlue · 02/02/2021 12:54

So sad about Philip Pullman since Serafina Pekkala reminds me so perfectly of the wonderful witches of Mumsnet :) Just an aside.... He has tarnished the books for me with his lack of depth or insight into women. Shame.

I believe Arla (lurpak people) are good too.
